Chapter 854 The Hastings Family Is Not That Impressive.
Natalie pointed to the peach tree not far away, "When Samuel was young, he told me to learn to climb trees and pick peaches for him to eat."
Oliver didn't know how to respond for a moment. This conversation was unexpected yet made sense. In young Samuel's mind, Natalie was there to be bossed around, but only he could boss her around.
"But I don't want them to know," Natalie added.
"Know what?" Oliver, patient when facing Natalie, asked gently.
"Know that I can actually remember a little bit," Natalie replied.
Natalie looked at the vast Smith family mansion. No wonder she felt a strange yet familiar sensation when she came here. There were no traces in her memory, yet it felt like she had been here before.
If the other members of the Smith family knew she could remember a little bit, they would surely spare no effort to tell her about her past, even fabricating how much she used to love the Smith family.
Memories and emotions were such powerful things that they could influence her to act unreasonably. If that happened, Natalie might start believing everything the Smith family said, even if some of it wasn't true. If it reached that point, severing ties with the Smith family would be impossible.
"Then just pretend you didn't remember," Oliver said.
Oliver bent down, met Natalie's gaze, kissed her eyelids, forcing her to close her eyes and not looking around anymore. "Honey, you have been Natalie since ten years ago, not Susan. Susan is someone else, Susan is the daughter of the Smith family."
"Do you think I'm being a bit heartless? I feel like even Caleb is about to cry. I heard that Caleb and Emma have a good relationship, and what I just said could be hurtful," Natalie said.
Natalie looked at the water, feeling a bit anguish inside.
"I am heartless too," Oliver said indifferently, "You are my wife, and this is what I should do."
"You have to bear everything," Natalie pouted, although complaining but felt more sorry for him inside.
Everyone said Oliver of the Johnson family was cold and heartless, but to Natalie, he showed his true self. His patience was reserved only for her. All his love was for Natalie, and he even gave her a home.
"Okay," Natalie said after a while.
She lifted her eyes, looked into Oliver's dark and deep eyes, and smiled, "Emma said that by marrying you, I become a brand-new Natalie. I am not the daughter of the Smith family. I am Oliver's wife and the mother of our future baby."
The Smith family only existed in Natalie's past, over a decade ago.
Natalie had just wanted to pay her respects to Emma. When she was offering flowers, she didn't even say a word, remaining calm all time.
She intended to leave, but once again, the Smith family members blocked her way.
No, they actually forced Natalie to stay for dinner.
Natalie was reluctant, but in a few minutes, Caleb's voice came from behind her. “Natalie, even if you are here as a guest today, according to etiquette, you should have a meal with us, right?" Caleb said. "This might be the last time we have the dinner together and you can see your grandma for more time."
Guest, etiquette, last meal together, Emma. Natalie had to admit that Caleb was really able to catch people's hearts.
Half an hour later, Natalie and Oliver arrived at the dining hall.
The dining hall of the Smith family mansion was large. Today, the dining hall was set up outdoors, with good weather, several round tables were placing in the yard.
The other members of the Smith family were unaware of what had happened at the memorial site. Each relative rushed to Natalie, “Natalie, I am your third aunt. We spoke earlier, do you remember? When you were young, I used to hold you often! You were so clever a child that you can recognize people. You didn't want others to hold you, but you always smiled when I held you."
A nearby relative mocked and exposed without hesitation, "How come I don't know about all this? I only remembered one time when you forcibly held Natalie, making her cry, getting punished by Caleb."
Anna said, "You know what? When I got along well with Natalie, you, the adulterer, hadn't become my official lover yet!"
"Who are you calling an adulterer? Go check how many mistresses your husband had outside!"
Seeing Anna and another relative arguing, Oliver signaled to the bodyguard, who immediately came and took Anna and the other relative away.
"What are you doing? Let go of me! This is the Smith family, release me!"
"Who are you? If you don't let go, I'll teach you a lesson!"
Jamie explained, "Their rude behavior might affect our prenatal children. It's better to keep some distance."
Anna and the other relative's husband quickly apologized to Oliver and Natalie, then took Anna and other relatives away to prevent Oliver from holding a grudge.
"In fact, the main reason is not their behavior."
Sitting in a chair, Natalie suddenly spoke with her gaze sweeping over everyone. "To be honest, I don't want to interact with everyone, so if you expect to get something from me, it's impossible."
"Natalie, what nonsense are you talking about? You are the daughter of the Smith family, how can you lost interact with our relatives!" someone said excitedly.
"My attitude is clear. I have no intention of returning to the Smith family," Natalie said. "My name is Natalie, not Natalie Smith."
Those who had initially tried to please Natalie instantly deflated.
“Natalie didn't consider herself a member of the Smith family. Didn't she want to have such a noble lineage?” some people muttered.
"Natalie, standing by Oliver's side as the daughter of the Smith family will give you more confidence," someone tried to involve Oliver, giving him a meaningful look.
The Smith family valued status, and Natalie's background had indeed been her biggest flaw. Many used this to attack Natalie, saying she wasn't worthy of Oliver.
Shouldn't Natalie care about this? Who wouldn't want a noble lineage?
Did Oliver care about this too? Who wouldn't want a wife with a noble background?
Everyone looked at Oliver after he let out a mocking laugh. They were a bit frightened by his laughter.
"Why is Oliver laughing?" someone asked.
Oliver played with Natalie's fingers, saying, "Natalie's greatest confidence is being my wife."
He laughed again, arrogantly, "The Smith family isn't that impressive."
The Smith family members felt extremely awkward, and several of them looked to Samuel, who currently held power in the family.
As Samuel was not yet the official heir of the Smith family, Oliver's words undoubtedly humilated Samuel.
"Why are you looking at me? The Smith family is indeed not that impressive in the eyes of RisingKing Group and Windsor Group," Samuel said. "A person must have a clear direction."
