Chapter 1039 Leaving Is Good for Both of Us

"Had dinner yet?" Anthony waved his hand, signaling Clint to leave.

Clint nodded, gave a nod to Jane as well, and then exited the mansion.

Jovan never had an assistant like Clint before. He treated his assistants with equal power, emphasizing balance and coordination. Now, Jane suddenly thought she could consider grooming a capable assistant like Clint. When she no longer wanted to work, she could hand over the studio to them and just collect the money. That would be wonderful.

Jane said she wasn't interested in why Anthony came back early, but she couldn't help but look around, subconsciously searching for traces of who had been there.

Of course, she found nothing.

"Had bubble tea this afternoon?" Anthony looked at Jane as she took off her shawl, revealing the black dress she had bought today.

The dress outlined Jane's graceful curves, with her collarbone looking particularly beautiful.

Jane was stunned for a moment, then calmly looked at Anthony. "No."

But just saying "no" didn't seem very convincing. Jane quickly found evidence to support her claim. "Didn't I order bubble tea during breakfast this morning?"

She was referring to the cup of so-called very healthy but actually very awful bubble tea that didn't deserve to be called bubble tea at all.

"Are you sure you didn't?" Anthony took out his phone, showing several transaction details. Among the four, five, and six-figure amounts, a $10 transaction stood out.

The recipient was the famous bubble tea shop Jane had visited today.

Jane thought, 'I should have been more careful and paid myself!'

The air was filled with extreme awkwardness.

Anthony raised an eyebrow, his expression seemed to say: Keep lying.

"I bought it for Clint. He had never tried it, so I wanted him to experience the joy of young people. Someone who doesn't even eat kebabs doesn't seem like a normal thirty-year-old man."

Anthony nodded. "And you had kebabs too."

Jane wondered what was wrong with her mouth today, letting things slip!

Jane pondered how to bluff her way through, feeling guilty for two seconds before suddenly realizing, what did it matter to Anthony if she drank bubble tea and ate kebabs!

Anthony watched as Jane, who was visibly anxious and had an expression that screamed "I won't admit anything!" just a second ago, suddenly transformed, radiating righteousness from head to toe.

"What I eat is none of your business." Jane slightly raised her chin. "You don't have the right to control me!"

Anthony pinched Jane's chin, lowering her raised chin. "Jane, don't get too cocky, be careful not to overdo it."

Anthony thought, 'I may not have the right to control you now, but I will eventually! If I don't, no other man will! Except for Jovan, of course.'

Anthony's wound was healing well, the bandages were off, and his back was covered with scabs.

Jane had bought the best scar removal ointments from the beauty department.

"After the scabs fall off, apply this white one first to prevent hypertrophy, then this blue one to prevent wrinkling scars and lighten the scar color." Jane handed the ointments to Anthony one by one.

Each ointment was in a 0.5-ounce size, and Jane specifically bought several of each.

Anthony glanced at the ointments with no interest. "Are you going to apply it for me?"

Jane sighed. "Why don't you ask me to eat for you too?"

Anthony closed his eyes for a nap, demonstrating an attitude that implied he wouldn't use it unless she applied it for him.

"Are you trying to scare me? Anyway, it's not my scar that's ugly," she deliberately said with indifference .

Anthony remained unmoved.

Anthony didn't care about having scars, especially on his back where they wouldn't show.

Another reason was that with the scar, with the mark, Anthony knew Jane would always remember this part of his back.

"Your wound is healed, I'm leaving tomorrow." Jane sorted the scar removal ointments.

Anthony opened his eyes, looking sharply at Jane, almost scaring her.

"Can't I leave?" Jane retorted.

Of course, she could, unless Anthony illegally detained her.

Anthony wanted to do that, but he knew he couldn't.

If he did, the road between him and Jane would be completely cut off.

Proud Jane would never allow herself to be with someone who had once detained her.

That night, Anthony didn't say another word to Jane.

The next morning, Jane packed her luggage and went downstairs, seeing Anthony still sitting in the same spot as last night, with dozens of cigarette butts in the ashtray in front of him.

Even with a powerful ventilation system in the living room, one could still faintly smell the smoke in the air.

"You didn't sleep? All night?" she asked.

Anthony looked at Jane for a few seconds, his gaze moving from her face to her suitcase, then said, "I'll take you to Paykston."

"But I'm not going to Paykston." Jane hadn't told Anthony her destination yesterday. "I'm going to Yew City for an award ceremony."

Although the results hadn't been announced yet, Jane had seen the other entries and was confident she would win.

Even if the judges favored the other contestants due to their backing, Jane would at least get second place.

After all, the public wasn't blind. A piece of excellent work was bound to gain its deserved recognition, or it would be hard to convince the public.

Not even knowing her destination, Anthony felt a blow to the head, coldly staring at Jane.

Jane calmly looked back at Anthony, without a hint of evasion. This was a farewell, both to Anthony and to herself.

"Mr. Clark, aren't you going to Paykston with Ms. Watkins?" The bodyguard was puzzled why Anthony was still here while Jane was leaving alone.

"No," he calmly said.

Not even Paykston, how could they go together?

Seeing Anthony's bad mood, the bodyguard, unlike Clint who had a friend-like relationship with Anthony, didn't dare to ask more.

"Send an elite six-man team to secretly protect Jane Watkins," Anthony ordered.

"Understood," the bodyguard replied.

When the six-man team secretly followed Jane to Yew City instead of Paykston, they looked at each other and silently reached a conclusion—Mr. Clark wasn't following Ms. Watkins because she didn't even tell him her destination! That was tragic!

Jane was attending the award ceremony for the photography contest she had submitted to earlier.

The event was international in nature, but most of the participants were domestic.

In Yew City, Jane checked into a familiar five-star hotel, booking a business suite.

The stark contrast was quite evident when, after staying in a mansion costing $20,000 per day, she suddenly switched to a business suite that only cost a few thousand dollars a day.
