Chapter 784 You Will Regret It
They continued asking questions.
"What's your lover's name? Is he someone famous in the industry?"
"How did you two meet? How long have you known each other? Are you planning to get married?"
"What does it feel like to kiss such a good-looking man?"
Everyone’s excitement grew, and their questions became increasingly invasive.
Natalie could not suppress the urge to escape from the meeting room. The representatives from Forinland were excessively enthusiastic and open-minded, and she struggled to interact with them.
"Natalie!"
As she hurried out of the meeting room, eager to return to her room to calm down, she suddenly heard someone call her name.
Natalie turned around and saw Sharon, adorned in luxury-brand attire, clutching a designer bag. Her hair stylishly permed, and her expression was one of pride and mockery when she faced Natalie.
"Sharon?"
After so many things, Natalie did not trust Sharon even if they were classmates. Sharon was known for her underhanded tactics. However, she never openly clashed with Natalie, so Natalie still maintained a polite facade.
"Long time no see, Natalie!" Sharon said with a smile, which carried no warmth.
Natalie felt uneasy when she noticed Sharon's change. Previously, Sharon was not confident and unpolished, often feeling insecure despite no direct bullying. Now, Sharon still lacked refinement but exuded arrogance, seeming to feel superior to Natalie.
"What a coincidence," Natalie said before turning to leave.
"It’s not a coincidence," Sharon called after her with a meaningful look, "I'm here in Forinland to investigate something. I live close by, so I came to watch the competition."
Natalie interpreted Sharon's words as, 'I live close by, so I came to see you.'
However, she and Sharon had never been close. Moreover, Sharon had previously opposed Natalie during the incidents with Nola and Susan.
"What are you trying to say?" Natalie asked directly, not interested in prolonging the conversation.
"Nothing," Sharon's hand waved dismissively, her smile broadening as she said, "I feel sorry for you. You're so smart, yet it's surprising how easily you can be deceived."
Sharon was clearly hiding something, playing coy.
"Okay, bye."
Natalie brushed past Sharon and continued on her way.
Sharon, taken aback by Natalie's swift departure, called out eagerly, "Natalie, isn't there anything you want to ask me?"
"It's obvious you don't want to tell me."
Seeing no point in pressing further, Natalie decided to leave it be. If she persisted, there would be two likely outcomes. Either Sharon would mock and insult her, or Sharon would propose absurd conditions. Ultimately, Natalie might not gain any useful information from the encounter.
Sharon's motivations were driven by greed, and Natalie had no interest in negotiating with her.
"Natalie, you're going to regret this," Sharon said, glaring at Natalie as she stamped her foot in frustration. A hint of jealousy was evident in her eyes.
Natalie and Sharon were alumni of the same school and had been classmates. Natalie had always outshone Sharon academically and continued to excel beyond her.
Currently, Natalie was a leading figure in her field, serving as a mentor in professional competitions and recently named the most promising female model.
Sharon believed Natalie's success was largely due to her marriage to Oliver, which provided numerous advantages. However, she had found a way to ruin it all. She could destroy it if she wanted. She was confident Natalie would not be able to live such a good life after learning about her origins.
…
"Mr. Windsor, these are the urgent documents that require your signature today. There's a headquarters meeting tomorrow morning that you need to attend. Several group presidents and family leaders, aware of your arrival in Forinland, would like to invite you to dinner. Additionally, Mr. Norton has invited you to visit his home."
Charles, who managed the company back at home, was temporarily replaced by Jamie.
Thanks to Natalie, Oliver had been featured in financial magazines and the media over the past year. His ties with the Norton family were now known to certain circles.
Oliver reviewed his schedule and marked two appointments before he instructed, "Cancel all other appointments for me."
"Okay."
"Contact the ring designer," Oliver added.
Quick to grasp the implication, Jamie asked, "Is it the designer for Mrs. Windsor's custom wedding ring?"
Oliver did not respond, confirming Jamie's guess.
"What customization are we looking at this time?" Jamie inquired.
"A wedding ring," Oliver replied.
"Mr. Windsor, when the previous ring was nearly completed, you decided you no longer needed it. Given its high value, the designer has kept it secured in her safe. Perhaps she could finish that one instead?"
"Make a new one," Oliver replied decisively, his tone revealing his aversion to the unfinished ring, "I don't want that one anymore."
Oliver associated the unfinished wedding ring with bad luck.
Jamie considered the diamonds embedded in the ring and was momentarily at a loss for words. He did not believe in bad luck. In fact, he thought that if it was possible, he would gladly accept such opulent 'bad luck'. Although his salary was not low, who would not like more money?
…
When Natalie returned to the suite, Jamie was still present, intending to discuss with Oliver any specific requirements for the new wedding ring.
Upon seeing Natalie, Jamie tactfully shifted the conversation from the ring to business matters. After exchanging a few general remarks, he said, "Mr. Windsor, I'll send you the details of this project via email, if that's acceptable?"
Oliver nodded in approval. "If you manage this well, your quarterly bonus will double."
"Mr. Windsor, thank you."
Jamie's quarterly bonus was substantial, amounting to millions of dollars, and Oliver's offer to double it had understandably excited him. His eyes twinkled with anticipation.
Natalie, noticing Jamie's reaction, could not resist commenting, "Jamie, you don't have a girlfriend. Why are you excited about doubling your bonus? Shouldn't you be more excited about taking a vacation? It's not as if you can spend all that money by yourself."
"A vacation is not as valuable as a bonus," Jamie countered, his perspective markedly different from Natalie's, "With money, I'll definitely find a girlfriend. My girlfriend will definitely spend my money. Without sufficient funds, how could I attract a girlfriend?"
Natalie found no flaw in his reasoning and gave him a thumbs-up. Jamie's logic, indeed, seemed irrefutable.
