Chapter 104 Calling Him Husband
There was no doubt that Natalie performed brilliantly this time. Combined with her previous popularity from the autumn car exhibition show, she gained many devoted fans. She even surpassed Arwyn and Hailey in terms of attention. Some media even hailed Natalie as this year’s dark horse.
Alas, good times did not last long.
Before long, headlines began to trend on the Internet.
[Wild Model With a Chaotic Personal LifeAdvances to the finals in Top Avenue]
Someone even posted of Natalie backstage, and the ring around her neck, shining dazzling under the lights, could be clearly seen. Below the photo was a comment that read: This model was wearing simple clothes just two months ago. She even worked part-time in school. It’s clear that she was not very wealthy. However, the ring on the necklace around her neck has a pink diamond that was estimated to cost around seven figures. Among the twenty finalists, even the worst one has appeared on several magazine covers. However, this model has no published works at all.
Unsurprisingly, there were many comments on this.
[So did she buy all her fans?]
[Natalie’s walk was terrible, but she dared to compare herself to Arwyn. How embarrassing!]
[How did a D-list model like her make it to the finals @TopAvenue?]
Previously, Natalie was highly praised, but now the tide of public opinion had turned against her. Even the occasional voice of support was easily drowned out by the flood of criticism online.
It was already quite late when Natalie found out about the matter. She had made an apple pie and only found out about it when she was posting the video of the process.
As the person involved, she was also the last to find out that the production team of Top Avenue had made a move without her knowledge.
The production team conducted video interviews with other models who had advanced to the next round, asking them about Natalie.
Natalie clicked on the video.
Arwyn said, "If I remember correctly, Natalie was wearing a limited-edition Versace dress that day. It cost six figures. I wanted to buy it before, but it was sold out."
The implication was that Natalie could not afford the dress on her own and that dress must have been bought by a sugar daddy.
Another model chimed in, "After the first filming, she went out at night and returned in a Rolls-Royce. I don’t know if it was her family’s car or what…”
Hailey immediately denied it, saying that it was not their family’s car.
The models were very indirect with their words. They did not bluntly say that her ability was not good or that she had the support of a sugar daddy. However, they spoke in a way that would invite malicious speculations.
With this, Natalie was branded as a D-list model who relied on a rich sugar daddy to enter the finals. People also speculated that she had attended a party with wealthy men to advance to the next round of the finals.
Unsurprisingly, she was flooded with hate comments in just a short moment.
Suddenly, a voice called out from behind Natalie, "Natalie."
Startled, Natalie’s elbow knocked against a fruit knife. The knife fell down, pointing at Natalie’s foot. Fortunately, a hand reached out to grab the handle of the knife when it was just a short distance away from her foot.
Oliver glanced at the phone on the table and saw the things Isaac had told him to see. It just so happened he saw a comment that read: I demand that the production team kicks that trash, Natalie, out to make the competition fair!
Anger surged in Oliver’s heart immediately. He instinctively covered the phone with his hand and said sternly, “Stop reading brainless hate comments.”
Natalie looked at him, feeling an urge to cry.
The front door was still open, and Oliver’s hair was slightly messy. It was clear that he was in a rush before this.
After she regained her senses, Natalie asked with a hint of disbelief in her eyes, “Why did you suddenly come back? Is it… Is it because of this?"
As she spoke, she tried to grab her phone, but he stopped her.
Oliver caressed her cheek softly and said, “Silly person, don’t you know how to fight back when you’re bullied? Did you cry?”
Natalie subconsciously reached up to touch her eyes and found them dry. She said, “I didn’t cry.”
However, she still remembered the comments she had just read, and her voice could not help but tremble when she spoke.
Natalie was on the verge of tears earlier. Despite feeling very aggrieved, she tried her best to hold back her years. She had no agency or team to support her. In front of the powerful online community, she was like a fish on a chopping board.
Natalie looked at Oliver who leaned down to meet her eye level while she sat on a stool. When she saw a rare hint of tenderness in his eyes, her heart skipped a beat.
‘Did he really come back because of me?’
Natalie quickly averted her eyes and said, “In fact, I don’t really care about the haters online. I’m just disappointed in the production team. They used me, pushing me under the bus, to gain attention.”
Oliver felt a little uncomfortable leaning down for a long time. He easily held Natalie’s waist and picked her up.
Natalie felt her body go light for a moment, and when she regained her senses, she was already sitting on Oliver’s lap.
"You can cry if you want."
"I don't want to cry," Natalie said as she struggled to get down, “Let me go.”
“Stop moving around,” Oliver said before he continued, “You’re my wife. No one can bully you. How can you be so foolish?”
“Isn’t it all your fault?” Natalie complained, “Can I tell people that I was wearing my wedding ring? Can I tell people that the car belonged to my husband? Can I also tell people that the dress was something my husband forced me to wear?”
Initially, Natalie thought that perhaps he had come back because of her, and she was slightly moved. However, now that feeling was gone when she thought about how the rumors only arose because of him.
Oliver looked at her silently for a few moments before he said, “Say it again.”
"What?" she asked.
"Husband," Oliver replied.
Natalie covered her mouth as her eyes widened.
‘Did she just refer to me as her husband in front of me? I must have lost my mind!’
