Chapter 932 Heartless

"My dear, why don’t you look at me? Natalie, it's me. I am your mother! Don't you remember me? I'm your mother. I love you very much.

"Hey, look, this is the little dress I prepared for your second birthday. Do you like it? You won't be upset with me for not giving it to you on your birthday, right? It wasn’t my fault. Your grandmother insisted on taking you away. I'm your mother. Why does your grandmother spoil you but hate me?"

"Natalie, you won't hate me, right? I love you so much, so very much!"

When Natalie arrived at the mental health facility, she saw Helen talking to a crabapple tree .

Helen no longer resembled the wealthy lady she was just a month before. Her clothes was plain, and her actions were noticeably erratic. Helen called the tree "Natalie" and "sweetheart," occasionally crying and laughing, holding a leaf as if it were a garment.

"She's lost her mind," Samuel said, standing next to Natalie, summarizing Helen's condition with the word "abnormality."

Natalie knew Helen was not in her right mind. Otherwise, she wouldn't be talking with a tree.

Natalie and Oliver had been there for quite some time, but Helen had no reaction.

Samuel couldn't resist discreetly watching Natalie, attempting to detect any emotion on her face. However, there was nothing. No pity, no reluctance, not a single hint of emotional response.

Samuel then remembered a remark he had heard long ago about Natalie, an uncommon opinion that few shared. It mentioned that Natalie possessed exceptional kindness and beauty, yet also harbored immense cruelty. She could exhibit gentleness and forgiveness, but could also be ruthless and aloof. This coldness was even likened to that of Oliver's.

Helen had shattered Natalie's heart. In Natalie's perception, Helen was no longer her mother but rather a complete stranger. So, witnessing Helen's current state, Natalie didn't even raise an eyebrow. She simply pursed her lips slightly and aid, "Shouldn't she be missing Susan?”

Natalie thought, ‘Why did she call my name? It's disgusting.’

Natalie's words were polite enough, but Samuel knew what she meant.

It was already too late for Helen to make up for Natalie.

"What did the doctor say?" Oliver asked.

"She was traumatized and might never recover," Samuel didn't mention that the doctor had also stated that if the patient consistently cooperated with the treatment alongside her loved one, there was a possibility of recovery.

Samuel couldn't find the courage to suggest that Natalie cooperate with Helen, especially given Natalie's current reaction and attitude.

He glanced at Helen, who was embracing the osmanthus tree and calling it "baby," and thought that this might be the ideal situation for Helen at the moment.

Helen lived in her own world. At least most of the time, she was happy.

Natalie nodded. “Are you taking her home or is she staying here?"

Non-violent mental patients can didn’t have to stay in the hospital. Looking after someone like Helen was like taking care of a mentally challenged child.

"She'll stay here for now," Samuel said with a bitter smile. "Things are pretty chaotic at home. This is the best facility in the country."

Caleb's health had deteriorated significantly due to the disturbing events happened recently. He couldn’t leave the wheelchair now and had lost all hope for life. Lately, he had been staring blankly at a photo of Emma and even started making arrangements for his own funeral. He told Samuel he wanted the same coffin as Emma's so they could be buried together.

James was entirely focused on Susan. Samuel had been busy taking care of Caleb and Helen and had no time for James.

However, James couldn't cause much trouble. Samuel only allowed him to keep some money. He had no power or influence.

Natalie shifted her gaze away from the mentally unstable Helen and searched through her bag, only to come up empty-handed in her quest for a bank card. She then turned to Oliver and inquired, "Did you bring a bank card?”

"No," Oliver replied, pulling out two checks. "I only have these.

Natalie took one, filled in a number, and handed it to Samuel, "This is for Helen's support."

Samuel glanced at the generous sum on the check, feeling a blend of amusement and sorrow. "Natalie, what do you mean?"

"Although I don't take her as my mom, she gave me life. Legally, I have an obligation to support her," Natalie said. "Samuel, I know you don't need the money, but I need to pay."

She talked like it was a mall number.

Natalie, you wish to sever all connections," Samuel understood that Natalie planned to make a single payment to dissolve any future obligations.

"Yes."

Natalie always conducted herself in a manner that left no room for criticism, be it in terms of kindness or ethics.

Helen did give birth to Natalie but had also tried to kill her multiple times. Natalie no longer owed Helen anything and even provided enough support to ensure they were truly even.

Samuel needed to make accommodation for Helen, so Natalie and Oliver left first.

“Mrs. Hastings, what are you looking at?" The caregiver, who had been beside Helen, noticed that she had stopped muttering and was gazing towards the entrance.

There was no one there. Earlier, Samuel had brought Natalie and Oliver to that spot. Helen stared at the empty space and suddenly began crying. When Helen cried, she didn't seem like a mental patient. She quietly shed tears, and her sadness was so intense that it made anyone feel heartbroken.

The caregiver thought Helen was looking at Samuel and reassured her, saying, "Mrs. Hastings, your son is taking care of your paperwork. He'll be back soon. Please don't cry. Be good!" Helen stubbornly kept gazing in that direction, continuing to cry and softly repeating, "Natalie.”

As Oliver had foreseen, Roger did not receive any leniency in his situation despite being a foreign national.

Soon after, the official announcement came that Mr. Watson had committed suicide out of guilt, shocking the internet.

The crucial point was that it was Mr. Watson who had taken his own life, not Roger.

Roger was the main personality, the one known to the world. It was impossible to declare the body's death solely based on Eugene's "death." Natalie soon received a call from "Roger," requesting her and Oliver to meet him.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
