Chapter 676 You Jerk!
Alex shook her head.
Oliver didn't give Alex the rest of the answer; Alex could only look at Natalie.
Natalie smiled helplessly and said, "Dean of Discipline."
Alex gasped, "Really? I thought the same when I was younger!" That look in her eye was as if she had found a kindred spirit in Jane in an instant.
Alex felt that if Jane became her sister-in-law, they would certainly get along well, at least when it came to teasing her brother Richard, they would have plenty to talk about.
Natalie, seeing Alex's enthusiasm, was beginning to waver, feeling like asking Jane on behalf of someone else wasn't too much to ask.
"Mrs. Windsor, you see, being a guidance counselor has its merits, right? At least when students get into trouble, it's the guidance office that's best at handling the aftermath. My brother is the perfect match for someone with Miss Jane's personality. In the future, when Jane wants to spend time playing with the baby, she can, and when she's done, she can just hand the baby over to my brother for teaching."
"…Ms. Foster, do you think that's okay to say about your future nephew?" But Natalie felt there was some truth to what Alex was saying.
With Jane's personality, she did indeed tend to treat a child like a new toy. Even if the child was her own, it would just be her toy, which could be more convenient to handle.
How does that saying go? A child who isn't played with is a child without purpose.
Alex fanned the flames, "Besides, my cousin might not be the best out there, but he's got to be better than that Clark family guy, right?"
Natalie had to steady her thoughts, almost agreeing with a nod.
On the drive back, Natalie couldn't stop thinking about what Alex had said, and it made more and more sense to her. She deeply felt that Ms. Foster's ability to persuade was a little too powerful.
"Jane, I've got to ask you something," Natalie said, feeling the urgency to call Jane right away.
"Go ahead," they were familiar enough with each other to skip the formalities.
"How do you feel about Richard now?" Natalie asked.
"Who? Who's Richard?" Jane replied, bewildered.
Natalie cradled her forehead, "The guy Jovan picked out for you back in the day!"
Jane's memory was jogged, "The guidance counselor? Has he gone bald yet?"
The guidance counselor from Jane and Natalie's high school days was notorious for his balding, and since Richard was so intelligent and often overthought things, Jane was obsessively convinced that Richard, like many IT guys, would be prematurely balding.
"No, his hair is doing just fine!" Natalie replied, annoyed, "I met Richard's cousin today, and she seemed, well, pretty keen on you becoming her sister-in-law."
Jane shook her head fiercely, "I'd also wish to be a princess, but no thanks, I'd rather not bring disaster upon Mr. Foster."
Seeing Jane's reaction, Natalie decided not to push any further.
Jane hung up the phone, shivering involuntarily at the thought of Richard's transcendent demeanor, which sent a shiver down her spine like the fear of being dominated by a school disciplinary officer.
Ask yourself, what normal young person's hobbies include sipping tea, fishing, and playing chess? Aren't hitting the dance clubs, singing at the top of your voice, racing cars, scuba diving, and skydiving far more appealing?
"Who?" called a man, stepping out from the bathroom door with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, droplets of water still clinging to his skin. It was early summer, and he had already started taking cold showers.
Seeing Anthony, Jane's previously relaxed expression fell, and she said coldly, "None of your business. This is my house. Are you leaving or not? If not, I'll call your mom and tell her that her son is still harassing the daughter of his enemy."
With her phone already in hand, Jane opened the camera and snapped a photo of Anthony, saying, "Oh look, her son is now standing half-naked in front of his enemy's daughter. If you don't get out of my house within five minutes, I won't just accuse you of trespassing. I'll send this photo to your mom and tell her if I end up pregnant with your child, I'd like to see how you and your mom will face your late father."
Despite Jane's lengthy diatribe, Anthony didn't listen to a word. His entire focus was on her threat "If I end up pregnant with your child."
Anthony's gaze landed on Jane's flat abdomen as if he was pondering her earlier words. His eyes were deep and intense, the scorching look making Jane's scalp tighten.
"What are you trying to do?" Jane instinctively stepped back.
"Jane Watkins, let's make a deal," Anthony finally shifted his gaze from her abdomen to her face.
"Not your sister, it’s Jane!" Jane, being the second in her family, had often been called "Watkins," but only Anthony added the diminutive "little," making it sound patronizing, like a waiter in a diner. People addressed others as "Mr. Lee" and "Mr. Cox" without a hiccup, but who had heard of "little Lee" or "little Cox"?
How blind had she been to fall for such a man who couldn't speak properly!
"Jane," Anthony insisted on calling her by that name, "you wrecked my car and can't afford to pay for it. Since you don't want me living here, how about I give you a way to settle the debt? It might even give you the chance to upset my mother."
Anthony had managed to unlock Jane's door and let himself in. Accidentally, Jane had wrecked Anthony's prized Knight XV when she was driving. Repair costs and compensation soared to well over a seven-figure sum, a figure she couldn't possibly afford.
Jane's comfortable lifestyle was funded by an inheritance left by her late Uncle Jovan, which ensured all her monthly needs were met but were in no way enough to cover a seven-figure payout in a lump sum.
"What can I do?" In the past, Jane, as Ms. Watkins, would have flatly said "I have no interest in your solutions," but now, despite suspecting Anthony wouldn't offer anything pleasant, she lacked the luxury of refusal. She genuinely owed him a hefty sum. And if she couldn't settle the debt, Anthony could drag her to court.
Anthony stepped forward without giving Jane a chance to react and pushed her against the wall. She could feel the coldness of his body from being out in the cool air pressed against hers.
His face was very close to hers as he suggested, "If you're carrying my child, it will write off the millions in debt. It'll also give you ammunition to infuriate my mother. How about that?"
"Have you lost your mind, Anthony?!" Jane's incredulous eyes widened, and it took several long seconds before she could grasp that Anthony seemed to be serious.
She covered her abdomen and said fiercely, "Don't even think about it, Anthony. I won't have your child, that would be a betrayal to my brother!"
"Your brother?" Anthony scoffed. "I almost forgot about him. This will surely vex him too. Given our bad blood, if your brother who is living in M Country, hears about this, will he be enraged enough to come back to life or just die completely?"
"Anthony! You jerk!" Jane snapped at him, angrily.
How dare he curse her brother, using her sibling's life and health as leverage!
Jane immediately threw a punch at Anthony.
