Chapter 1107 I Love Her Very Much
"Deformed?" Jane took a long time to react, and even then, she only blinked blankly. "Doctor, are you sure there's no mistake?"
Jane couldn't believe it.
The doctor looked serious. "I understand how you feel right now, but it's impossible that we made a mistake. All your tests show this result."
"But I really haven't taken any medication!" Jane said firmly.
"Then think about it. Maybe you accidentally ate something wrong without knowing." The doctor reminded her.
'Accidentally ate something wrong...' Jane pondered deeply.
The last prenatal checkup showed the fetus was very healthy, which means the problem occurred after that checkup, during the time in Clark Manor.
Jane suddenly remembered the calcium and vitamin pills she had been taking daily during this period. It felt like a bucket of cold water was poured over her, leaving her chilled to the bone.
The doctor sighed and comforted Jane a bit, then finally reminded her. "You should discuss this with your family. If you decide to have an abortion, you'll need a family member's signature."
Even after leaving the hospital, Jane felt completely out of it.
She couldn't accept this result and immediately went to another nearby hospital for another checkup.
The results were the same.
"Ms. Watkins, your phone is ringing." The driver reminded Jane, bringing her back to reality.
The caller ID showed it was Anthony. For some reason, her eyes stung, and she didn't want to see him.
But what if the calcium and vitamin pills were not the problem?
What if she had misunderstood Ann?
Jane took a deep breath, composed herself, and answered the phone.
"Jane, are you home?" Anthony's familiar voice came through the receiver.
Anthony didn't hear Jane's response for a while and frowned. "Jane?"
He was worried something had happened to Jane.
"The signal was bad just now." Jane took a deep breath. "The checkup is done; I'm on my way back."
Anthony checked the time. Jane's checkup took longer than he expected; she should have been back at the Clark Manor by now.
"You don't sound too good. Did the checkup not go well?" Anthony was always sensitive to Jane's emotions.
"No." Jane quickly came up with an excuse. "There were a lot of people today, so I had to wait in line for a long time."
This explained why she was still on her way back and not already at the Clark Manor.
"I'm heading back now; I'll hang up." Jane hung up before Anthony could respond.
She was afraid that if Anthony asked a few more questions, she would slip up.
Before anything was confirmed, she didn't want to wrong anyone.
Even though Jane had an explanation, Anthony still felt something was off.
"Everyone, please continue. I need to step out for a moment," Anthony said to his business partners.
"Mr. Clark, you sounded like you were talking to a woman just now. The affection in his eyes was apparent. Do you have someone special?" one of the partners joked.
"Yes," Anthony admitted readily. "I love her very much, but it's not convenient to tell you who she is right now."
The relationship between Jane and Anthony was only known to a small circle in the South City; people in Paykston were mostly unaware.
Anthony walked to a quiet place and called Ann.
The phone rang for a while before Ann answered, and Anthony already sensed something was wrong.
"Mom, how did the checkup go today?" he asked.
Ann glanced at Aurora sitting beside her, her eyes flickering with guilt, but she knew she couldn't lie to Anthony.
She said, "I had an urgent matter today, so I didn't accompany Jane to the checkup."
Anthony's brow immediately furrowed, a sign of his growing unease and irritation, so palpable that it seemed to chill the very air around him.
"Mom, you promised me you'd take care of her."
If it weren't for the fact that Ann and Jane had been getting along better recently, and if Ann hadn't told him in advance that she wanted to accompany Jane to the checkup, Anthony would have canceled this meeting, no matter how important it was.
Ann quickly explained, "I had an urgent matter. Aurora was in a car accident, so I came to check on her! The hospital arrangements were all set; Jane could do the checkup without me."
Aurora sat quietly beside her, seemingly very guilty about the situation, but a closer look at her eyes would reveal they were filled with glee and calculation.
"You are stubborn and unrepentant!" Anthony angrily hung up the phone.
He then instructed Clint, "Cancel tonight's dinner and book a flight back to South City. Also, find out what happened with Aurora today."
Anthony's urgency to return to South City was undoubtedly because of Jane. Anything involving Aurora was likely not good news.
Clint immediately complied.
Finding out about Aurora's situation wasn't difficult. Half an hour later, Clint returned with the answer. "Mr. Clark, Aurora had a minor collision with a car this morning. She then called Mrs. Clark. Mrs. Clark went to the scene and took Aurora to the hospital for a full checkup."
"A minor collision?" Anthony questioned.
Was it the car accident Ann mentioned? Or was it Aurora's version of a car accident?
"Yes, a minor collision," Clint said, already sensing the impending storm of Anthony's anger brewing around him.
"What about the Hubert family?" Anthony meant, why didn't they call someone from the Hubert family when something happened?
Clint had already looked into it. "Hubert has been involved with a young starlet recently and hasn't seen Aurora for a while. Mrs. Clark only cares about her grandson."
In other words, no one was looking after Aurora.
But Aurora shouldn't have called Ann when something happened. At the very least, she still had the Dewar family.
And for a minor collision, either pay for the damages or go through insurance. Jane could handle it at eighteen; was Aurora still a fool in her twenties?
"Call Hubert and tell him to take care of his woman, or he won't get his family dividend this month," Anthony ordered with a stern face.
After Hubert's scheme involving Aurora's pregnancy was exposed, Anthony used it as an excuse to strip him of a significant portion of his company rights. Hubert, who was already a reckless person, realized the gap between him and Anthony after this blow and became completely demoralized, relying on the Clark Group's dividends to live a carefree life.
But ultimately, this was still Ann's fault.
Thinking about Ann and Aurora's actions this time, Anthony's eyes darkened, filled with gloom.
