Chapter 492
Oliver was concerned that Natalie might be bored at home alone, so he suggested she invite friends over to the Rosewood Estate to pass the time. But after two days, not a single visitor had come to the estate.
Oliver guessed that Natalie was hesitant because she knew Oliver was not fond of outsiders at the Rosewood Estate. Hence, Oliver decided to take the initiative to reach out to Jane.
"Boss," Jamie said as he positioned the Rolls-Royce perfectly outside Jane's apartment nodding toward the front.
Jane's apartment was upscale, but not the pinnacle of Paykston luxury. Despite the presence of several luxury cars in the vicinity, nothing else came close to the Rolls-Royce.
"Looks like Anthony's upstairs," Jamie remarked. It was clear to them both that he meant Anthony of the Clark family.
Oliver went straight to the elevator and up to Jane's floor. As he stepped out, he paused, locking eyes with the man smoking by Jane's door.
"What are you doing here?" Anthony squinted like an alpha wolf on guard against an intruder on his territory.
Oliver, who had been in a foul mood lately, suddenly felt a twisted sense of amusement upon encountering someone who seemed even grumpier. "Obviously, I'm here to see Jane," Oliver said with a smirk.
"And what do you want with her?"
Oliver raised an eyebrow. "What's it to you?"
Anthony stepped forward, blocking Oliver's approach to Jane's door, with his unfriendly demeanor.
"Relax, she's a treasure to you, but to me, she's nothing special,” Oliver said coldly.
It took Anthony a moment to remember that Oliver had a wife, and she was Jane's best friend. He then stepped aside.
Oliver rang the doorbell only to find it silent, so he knocked instead, rapping on the door for a good ten minutes without any response.
Jamie had done some sleuthing; Jane hadn't left her apartment since yesterday morning, so she was likely inside.
"She probably thinks it's me and won't open up," Anthony said, drawing on his cigarette and blowing out a perfect smoke ring, his shoulders lifting in a helpless shrug.
Oliver smirked in triumph before dialing Jane's number.
She picked up quickly this time, "Mr. Windsor, what can I do for you?"
"Natalie's hurt her leg and can’t make it out; she needs your company at the Rosewood Estate."
At the mention of Natalie's injury, Jane tensed, but Oliver's calm tone suggested it wasn't serious. "Sure, that's fine. But did you notice something, or rather someone at my front door?"
Oliver glanced at Anthony, still lingering with his cigarette. "Yeah."
"Well, get rid of him. How else am I supposed to make it to Rosewood Estate?"
"Step out in ten," Oliver said curtly before hanging up.
Anthony shifted his stance and glanced at his watch, anticipating the door opening in ten minutes.
"Those ten minutes are for you to leave, Mr. Clark," Oliver said.
But Anthony didn't budge.
Oliver kept his cool. "Don’t you have a fiancée?"
Anthony hadn't intended to have much of a conversation with Oliver since their worlds barely overlapped but at the mere mention of his fiancée...
Anthony’s face darkened and he retorted, "No."
