Chapter 686 Public Disclosure
The trial between Natalie and Susan once again became the talk of the town.
Online, everyone said Natalie's presence in the trending topics was becoming as consistent as the sun rising in the east, and paradoxically while many groaned about her frequent appearances, they simultaneously relished in every tidbit of gossip.
Because the stories about her were rich and varied.
There was scandal, legal drama, links with both the fashion and entertainment industries, and secrets of the wealthy elite—a world intriguing to most of the online community.
While the trial, largely fueled by Susan's criminal actions, attracted more online speculation about Natalie's personal life than the legal aspects of the case.
"These people are either guessing who your new husband is or whether Oliver is at the court for you or for Susan," Emily Reed said with a scoff. "This is most likely orchestrated by the Hastings family on purpose, directing the public's attention to your romantic scandals rather than Susan's attempted murder of you."
In her private studio's office, Emily Reed managed to keep Natalie informed of the online chatter, even amidst the hectic schedule of running a new business. Her ability to multitask was the hallmark of a successful career woman, handling the pressures of opening a studio with ease while others might falter.
Natalie wasn't particularly interested in the Hastings family's motives or actions; she had anticipated their petty schemes following their failed attempt at making amends since the Hastings family treasured Susan like the apple of their eye.
"My… new husband?" Natalie, the subject in question, was puzzled.
"That would be Oliver," Emily Reed explained. "But since Oliver's face hasn't been fully captured by the media before, everyone assumes you've found a new love."
"Why wouldn't they guess that it's Oliver then?" Natalie asked, bewildered.
Although Natalie certainly wasn't eager to broadcast her relationship with Oliver, there wasn't an intentional effort to hide it either. Oliver was indeed a man of exceptional appearance; men like him, with both his stature and temperament, were rare.
Shouldn't people easily associate him with her?
"I'm not sure about the public," Emily continued, "but within our circles, most people instantly ruled out Oliver."
"Why is that?" Natalie pressed.
Emily Reed paused, preparing to share her insights into the curious dynamics at play. While replying to a message on her phone, she said, "Think about it, does Oliver, with all his pride, look like the type to go back on his decisions? Would such a haughty person be content being known simply as 'Natalie's new guy'?"
Oliver much preferred the declaration that "Natalie is Oliver's woman."
Natalie was somewhat speechless.
Indeed, it did seem highly improbable for someone as proud as Oliver to reconcile with her, a fact evident to both those who knew him and those who didn't. On the contrary, people were more likely to believe that Natalie had chased after Oliver relentlessly, resulting a reconciliation.
As for those who knew the real story, knew better,
"Emily, do you think I should go public about my relationship with Oliver?" Natalie asked with worry.
In all honesty, she had been feeling a bit guilty and self-reproachful for not going public with their reunion earlier, and now that netizens had started guessing, they suspected her husband was someone else.
Putting herself in his shoes, she knew she would be upset if others speculated that Oliver's wife was another woman.
"What's wrong, Emily?" After speaking, Natalie noticed that Emily Reed gave her a peculiar look.
Emily glanced at her phone, then said, "No need."
"Huh?" Emily looked lost.
Emily shook her phone a bit, indicating, "I just...accidentally hit the voice button, and someone else heard what you said, and he said there's no need."
"Who's 'someone else'?" Natalie asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.
Emily Reed replied, "Samuel."
Natalie was puzzled.
