Chapter 458
She couldn't see the face of the person standing behind her, but she could sense his emotions on the verge of breaking down. She waited and waited, but Oliver's outburst never came.
The wheelchair started moving leisurely again. The warmth of the sunlight felt soothing on her skin; Natalie couldn't help but close her eyes.
"Natalie, tell me, what if my hand slips and you fall?" Oliver's voice broke the silence.
Unconsciously, Natalie glanced at the ground. There was a slope, and Oliver was pushing her up steadily, moving smoothly and consistently. It had never crossed her mind that Oliver would let her fall.
When Oliver received no response from her, he laughed at himself mockingly.
'If she fell and got injured, maimed her legs, or damaged her face, would she then be dependent on me for life? But how could I bear to see her suffer like that?' Oliver thought inwardly.
Every woman cherishes their face. Even if he still liked her, she would probably loathe the injuries she'd sustained.
It was just a moment of madness.
Elsewhere, Lucas had been permitted by his college professors to leave early so he could go to the hospital. Since his grades were good, getting a leave pass was a breeze. His roommate tagged along, using the checkup as an excuse to skip class.
"Lucas!" Lilian, dressed in a light yellow dress, waved from a distance.
Lucas followed the source of the voice and immediately spotted the bright yellow figure dancing outside the outpatient door.
"You should've told us your girlfriend was coming to join you!" His roommate nudged Lucas with an elbow.
"Not yet," Lucas replied softly.
"Not yet?" The friend shook his head. "Lucas, are you capable or not?"
"Shut up!" Lucas glared at him.
"Hello!" Whenever there were strangers around, Lilian became extraordinarily gracious and ladylike, a habit cultivated from a young age. Paired with her doll-like face, it only made her seem adorably naive and cuddly.
"Hello, hello!" A classmate greeted Lilian with a beaming smile.
"How come you're here, Lilian?" Lucas hid the awkwardness in his expression.
"I came to keep you company during your check-up," she sweetly replied.
His roommate chuckled. "I originally skipped classes to accompany Lucas for his check-up, but since you're here, I'll head out now. Bye!"
"Bye!" Lilian responded.
Lucas, perplexed, asked, "Why did you let him go?"
"He said he skipped class to come here. It's wrong to skip classes. He should go back." Lilian started lecturing.
Lucas laughed. "Idiot, do you think he's honestly going back to school? The world outside is vast. Aren't coffee shops or dorm rooms great places to hang out?"
"Is he not going back to class?" Lilian was shocked.
"Have you never skipped class your whole life?" he asked curiously.
"I think it's wrong," she said flatly.
Besides, when she was young, she was homeschooled. There was no chance to skip class. While she was in college, there was heavy coursework and strict graduation requirements, skipping class could mean not graduating at all!
'Why can't one enjoy a full-fledged celebration after graduation?' she thought.
