Chapter 1114 This Child Can't Be Kept
Anthony trained Jane in combat skills, and he knew her capabilities well.
Jane gave a cold smirk. 'That is absolutely right.'
"So, are you going to plead for Aurora?" Jane asked.
Anthony frowned deeply. "Why would I plead for her?"
He had no good relationship with Aurora.
"Can I leave now?" Jane asked. She didn't really care if he would plead for Aurora.
She mentioned it in passing.
It would be even better if he didn't mind her scheming against Aurora.
"Jane, don't you have anything else to say to me?" Anthony tried to hold onto her.
"Say what?" Jane's reaction clearly showed she didn't.
A sudden sense of helplessness surged in Anthony's heart.
"I want to leave." Jane urged, "You don't have to help me find Jovan. I didn't give birth to your child, so our previous deal is off, but I need to leave."
"I can let you leave after you rest for a while," he said.
She needed to rest and be well cared for after surgery to aid her recovery.
"Anthony, don't think I'm naive. I want to leave now. Don't try to stall me; I'm not falling for it again," Jane replied.
He had always delayed in the past, making it impossible for her to leave due to various reasons.
"Jane, I'm telling you clearly, there's no room for negotiation." He wouldn't allow her to risk her health.
"Anthony!" Jane called out.
"Jane, I won't argue with you about the unchangeable things that have happened, but that doesn't mean I understand your actions."
"Anthony, how is Jane?" As soon as Anthony left the ward, Ann quickly walked up.
Looking uneasy and guilty, Ann wanted to care for Jane but struggled with her pride and awkwardness.
"Anthony, I won't associate with Aurora anymore. If you want to marry Jane, I won't stand in your way. I..."
Ann finally mustered the courage to make a concession, but before she could finish, Anthony interrupted.
"It's too late." Anthony said, "Mom, a late apology might not be useful. Especially for Jane."
"She..." Ann said.
"Mom, I want to be alone," Anthony said, then completely left Ann's sight.
"Do you think I was wrong?" Ann looked in the direction Anthony left, sadly asking Sadie.
"Mrs. Clark." Sadie didn't know how to start.
Indeed, she was wrong, but now that she realized her mistake, what use was it?
Some things, once past, are gone forever, never to return.
"I'll go in and talk to her!"
Ann knocked on the ward door, and after two seconds, she heard Jane's voice from inside saying, "Come in."
"Why are you out of bed?" Ann concerned.
As soon as Ann entered, she saw Jane standing on the ground, holding onto the bed, and was shocked. She instinctively walked quickly to support Jane.
Before she could touch Jane, Jane took a step back to avoid her.
"Mrs. Clark, do you need something from me?" Jane's demeanor was cold, as if facing an irrelevant passerby.
There was no resentment, but such a demeanor from Jane deepened Ann's guilt.
"Jane." Ann licked her lips and began. "You and Anthony are still young. The child was lost because of fate. You can have another one. I won't oppose you and Anthony anymore, you..."
Jane looked at Ann strangely and confusedly. "Didn't Anthony tell you? I'm leaving."
"What?" Ann was a bit stunned.
"Mrs. Clark, you never believed it, but I indeed stayed by Anthony's side for the child I once carried. Now that the child is gone, I have no reason to stay here."
"Jane..." Ann was surprised at her words.
Jane continued, "Mrs. Clark, I think you're right. There is a family feud between Anthony and me. It's the lives of two members of the Clark family and the downfall of the Watkins family. Anthony and I shouldn't have any connection."
"No, Jane, I..." Ann anxiously wanted to explain, but didn't know what to say.
What Jane said were all things she had said before, but now, hearing them, they all seemed so unreasonable!
"Mrs. Clark, if you feel guilty towards me, you don't need to sacrifice your son's happiness to compensate me. I want you to persuade your son to let me leave," Jane added.
Unknowingly, tears of regret filled Ann's eyes.
The smell of cigarettes filled the entire smoking area.
"Mr. Clark, you should smoke less. That's your second pack already," Clint said, eyeing Anthony with concern.
Anthony's tall and slender figure leaned against the wall, his back slightly hunched, the cigarette butt glowing red at his fingertips.
"Clint." After a long while, Anthony spoke, "She knew the child couldn't be saved."
Clint worked quickly and found out an hour ago that Jane had undergone a drug test at the hospital a few days ago.
Jane knew the child's health was in trouble, so she used it to her advantage.
"But Clint, she's so afraid of pain. How could she be so cruel to herself?" Anthony took a deep drag of the cigarette, and after a few seconds, smoke exhaled from his thin lips.
From yesterday until now, Anthony hadn't shaved, and a thin layer of stubble covered his chin, making him look somewhat haggard.
Clint didn't know what to say, so he just stood by Anthony's side.
He had known Jane for many years and naturally knew how much she loved beauty and feared pain.
But it was precisely such a person who could be so ruthless to herself.
Falling down such a high staircase, even if she wasn't pregnant, it could have been life-threatening.
But Jane did it anyway.
She was betting that her actions would make Anthony let her go.
But she had already become his obsession; how could he let her go?
Anthony's phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from the bodyguard at Emerald Gardens, "Mr. Clark, several brand merchants have sent the latest ready-to-wear clothes for Ms. Watkins to choose from."
Anthony had previously arranged this with the brands. Whenever new products were launched, they would be sent to Emerald Gardens for Jane to choose from.
"Order one of each style in Jane's size."
