Chapter 992 You Can Only Choose One

Anthony hung up the phone and gazed at Jane. His eyes clearly indicated that he was contemplating whether to share something with her.

"Do you have news about my brother? Anthony Clark, don't hide it from me. I boarded this cruise in order to find my brother."

"I can tell you, but first, you must promise me to stay by my side tonight," Anthony demanded. "Can you do that?"

"Yes!" Jane nodded without hesitation, her eyes urging Anthony to spill the news.

"There are two pieces of news," Anthony said, holding up two fingers. "First, Jovan Watkins is lucky. He's fine, and his mind is intact. Second, he's now connected with the Richardson family."

When Jane heard that Jovan's mind was fine, she felt a mixture of wanting to punch Anthony and being genuinely happy. Even though Anthony was mocking Jovan, at least Jovan's physical condition had improved, and he hadn't become a vegetable as the doctors had feared.

"The Richardson family?" Jane found the name somewhat familiar, but she had been out of that circle for three years. Although she had been a perfect socialite three years ago, she wasn't well versed in the affairs of global elite families, only researching them when necessary.

Jane was sure she hadn't specifically looked into the Richardson family. They weren't a globally renowned top family, but she had indeed heard the name before.

"Look it up yourself," Anthony said curtly.

Jane quickly searched for the Richardson family on an international forum. They were the top family in Mexica, outwardly an unremarkable noble family. But in reality, they controlled much of the country's economic lifeline, with businesses spanning various global legal and gray markets.

In simpler terms, they were wealthy, powerful, but extremely dangerous.

"My brother is in Mexica?" Jane couldn't understand. "Why would he go to such a place?"

Anthony clicked his tongue, hearing Jane's disdain for the Richardson family. Clearly, Jovan, both in appearance and essence, was very suited for the Richardson family.

"What is he doing in Mexica? Is he safe?" Questions of concern for Jovan poured out.

Anthony looked at Jane languidly. "I'll answer one. You choose."

Jane was puzzled. "Why can I only ask one?"

Anthony replied, "I'm in a bad mood and only want to answer one."

'How could Anthony be like this?' Jane thought.

Jane couldn't believe it, but given the situation, she had no leverage to negotiate with Anthony. She feared that if she asked too many questions, Anthony might get annoyed and refuse to answer any questions.

"Is my brother safe?" Jane finally chose the most important question.

"Yes, he is." If Jovan wasn't safe, then probably no one in the Richardson family was safe.

Jane continued to look at Anthony expectantly, but after several seconds, he said nothing more.

Jane was speechless and said, "Just these words?"

"What else?"

Jane was furious. "Didn't you ever take reading comprehension tests as a child? If you answer that, you won't have any points. You need to explain!"

“For instance, what Jovan's current situation is, and why you are so sure he is safe. Besides, in a place like the Richardson family, where is there absolute safety?” Jane said.

"I don't want to explain," Anthony dismissed Jane's demand. "Let's go."

Jane huffed, grabbed her handbag, and continued, "The news you mentioned earlier, you didn't get it on the cruise, did you?"

Anthony glanced at Jane, his look clearly saying, "Why not?"

"The news you mentioned, if you hadn't found out about it beforehand, why would you bring me to the cruise party?" Jane reasoned, "Before boarding, I saw the Richardson family's name on the dock sign."

Jane had just remembered this. Her short-term memory was always sharp.

"Don't try to fool me," Jane said with confidence. "So, what kind of information are you looking for on the cruise, and from whom? At the ball? Or the gambling table?"

A gambling table or a ball provided an ideal setting for the exchange of information.

At balls, with the lights and wine, the atmosphere was perfect for conversations, subtle exchanges of information, and even buying and selling information.

And at the gambling table, important information could directly become a bargaining chip.

"Both." Anthony wasn't surprised that Jane guessed these two places. "Taking a chance."

"Who are we meeting?" Jane asked, "Someone from the Richardson family?"

"Just keep an eye out for that name."

The ball was held in the luxurious hall on the second floor of the cruise ship. Probably to reminisce the Renaissance era, the decor of the hall was very much in line with the extravagant beauty of that era. Jane even saw women wearing tight corsets and large petticoats.

Jane originally thought her limited edition haute couture might be eye-catching, but when she saw those corsets and petticoats, she realized she was too naive.

"Mr. Clark!"

Soon, someone spotted Anthony and came over to greet him.

Anthony rarely attended such events, but the resources and market he controlled were highly coveted. Apart from his strong influence in the southern part of the country, Anthony was also on good terms with several southern families.

This was completely different from Oliver. The northern Oliver was like a lone king of beasts, maintaining a high position even when alone, while, Anthony was the alpha wolf of the south.

Who wouldn't want to befriend an alpha wolf? It was a once-and-for-all deal.

Jane, with her left hand hooked around Anthony's arm and her right hand holding her handbag, discreetly scanned the area, trying to spot someone from the Richardson family or representatives from the other two families from Mexica.

But she found nothing.

"Is this the famous Ms. Watkins?"

It wasn't until someone mentioned Jane that she withdrew her gaze.

Apparently, Anthony's defense of Jane at the port had already spread throughout the circle. These men, who were initially eager and even covetous upon seeing Jane, no longer approached Anthony to ask for Jane.

However, they still couldn't resist trying to strike up a conversation with Jane.

Jane smiled at the man, indicating she was indeed Ms. Watkins, but she didn't speak.

"How have you been lately, Ms. Watkins? My wife was once hailed as our country's top socialite, but compared to you, she falls far short," the man said with a smile. "If I know you earlier, I would have proposed to you."

Jane maintained a polite smile but remained silent.

The man continued with a few more suggestive remarks, all praising Jane and expressing regret for not having her, even hinting that Jane could contact him.

"Why isn't Ms. Watkins speaking? Do you look down on me?" The man's face darkened because Jane didnt give him any response.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
