Chapter 1149 The Ungrateful Woman

Jane woke up three hours later.

Her mind was a bit foggy as she groggily looked around. Outside the window was an endless expanse of desert, with only the occasional waterhole.

Wherever there was water, there were cows, sheep, or pronghorns nearby.

"You're awake," a deep male voice came from above her.

Jane was startled and realized her head was resting on Anthony's shoulder.

No wonder her neck didn't hurt after sleeping for so long.

"Why am I leaning on you?" Jane quickly moved away as if she had been shocked.

Anthony looked down at her, his expression saying, "Are you asking me? Do you have the nerve to ask me?"

It seemed like she had moved over on her own.

"Sorry," Jane said, feeling both embarrassed and puzzled.

'There is a whole seat's distance between me and Anthony. How do I end up next to him?'

'Could it be that my body subconsciously remembers using Anthony as a human pillow during past car rides?'

Jane moved back to her side, sitting almost pressed against the car door, afraid her body might betray her again.

Anthony responded with a nonchalant "Hmm," his attitude towards Jane quite distant.

Only Clint in the front seat caught a fleeting smile in Anthony's eyes through the rearview mirror.

Clint had never seen this side of Anthony before. Anthony had quietly moved Jane over to his side while she slept, letting her rest on him, and now that she was awake, he was pretending it was her fault.

'Impressive! He gets incredible mental fortitude! And how shameless it is!' Clint exclaimed inwardly.

"Clint, how much longer until we arrive?" Jane asked. She urgently wanted to get out of the car. Being in the same space as Anthony was unbearably awkward.

All this awkwardness stemmed from her disobedient head resting on Anthony's shoulder while she wasn't paying attention.

"About another hour," Clint replied. "Ms. Watkins, is everything okay?"

Jane looked out the window. There were a few waterholes in the desert, with a group of pronghorns drinking water, and the road was wide.

"How about we take a break and get some fresh air?" Jane suggested.

Clint glanced at Anthony, who nodded in approval. Clint signaled the driver to stop and also contacted the drivers of the two cars behind them.

The studio was full of young people who got along well and were quite talkative.

"This is so beautiful!"

"I finally feel the friendliness of the desert!"

"Riding in a luxury car is really different; those past few hours felt especially blissful!"

"Where's Jane?" Lester immediately looked for Jane after getting out of the car.

"Over there!"

Jane was holding a camera with a fixed-focus lens, taking pictures of the nearby pronghorns.

Most of the pronghorns here were not afraid of people. As long as you didn't interact with them, they wouldn't bother you.

There were exceptions, though. One young pronghorn noticed Jane's camera, tilted its head, and suddenly sprayed water at her.

"Jane!" Anthony called out.

Jane was so startled that she stepped back, trying to protect her camera and lens, which weighed several pounds. She didn't notice the loose stones under her feet.

Her body tilted to the side, but at the same time, a hand grabbed her waist. Anthony's arm hooked around her, pulling her securely into his embrace.

"Are you okay?" Anthony asked, his face looking grim as he looked at Jane in his arms.

Jane was drenched from head to toe by the young pronghorn's water, looking quite disheveled.

Always concerned about her appearance, Jane immediately checked her camera.

"Good thing the camera is fine." Jane sighed in relief.

Anthony wanted to pry open Jane's head to see what was inside.

The studio members wanted to come over but were stopped by Clint. "Don't go over yet. Too many people might scare the pronghorns."

Lester bypassed Clint and ran over. "Jane, let me hold the camera for you."

Jane unknowingly stepped out of Anthony's embrace.

She looked down at the photos she had just taken. One was of two pronghorns nuzzling, another of several pronghorns drinking water, and one captured the moment the young pronghorn sprayed water at her.

Overall, she was very satisfied!

"Here, adjust the lighting later, and the final photos will be great!" Jane's mood visibly brightened with the good photos.

Lester was at a loss for words.

When Jane worked, she forgot everything else. Had she forgotten that she and Anthony were exes?

Jane took a few steps, then suddenly remembered something and looked back. Anthony stood there with one hand in his pocket, watching her.

See, Jane was an ungrateful woman who wouldn't even say thank you!

"Thank you, Mr. Clark," Jane said, licking her lips, still puzzled by how things had turned out this way.

‘’Why didn't I watch my step earlier? How did I end up being caught by Anthony?' She blamed herself silently.

Jane thought for a moment and added, "Those photos turned out well, thanks to you. I'll send you a copy once they're developed."

Anthony frowned slightly, seemingly unable to bear it any longer. "Jane, do you think I understand these photos?"

Anthony had no artistic sense. To him, good photos and bad photos were just pictures of pronghorns.

The group set off again.

As soon as Jane got in the car, a large towel was thrown over her head.

Anthony withdrew his hand, not looking at her, and said coldly, "Dry off."

"Thanks," Jane said, wiping off the excess water while feeling grateful that it was just water and not spit from a llama.

But even water was still gross!

Anthony glanced sideways, seeing Jane frowning as she wiped herself, almost as if she had "So annoying! I want a shower!" written on her face.

"Sorry for dirtying your car," Jane apologized.

Jane put the used towel aside, and the next moment, a man's jacket was thrown over to her.

Anthony said, "Put it on."

His tone was so cold and hard that Jane wondered when she had offended him.

Other than getting his car dirty with water, she hadn't done anything to upset him, right?

Besides, Anthony wasn't a clean freak. He wouldn't get mad over something like this.

Jane sighed twice after getting in the car, but the rest of the studio members were very excited.

[The convoy leader is really handsome!]

[He looks like he would be a good match for Jane! Jane, why not consider it?]

[I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like that handsome guy looks at Jane differently.]

[How different? Doesn't he look cold to everyone?]

[When he looks at us, it's like looking at rocks on the roadside. When he looks at Jane...I can't describe it! But it's definitely different!]

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
