Chapter 261 He Wanted To Hide Her Away

Natalie ate in small bites. As she ate, an imperceptible smile could be seen on her face, which made Oliver realize that her mood had improved significantly.

When she visited him at the detention center, Oliver could sense her intense and pure emotions. However, when in court, she was calm to the point of detachment.

Oliver found himself wondering to himself. He disliked seeing her unhappy. He wished she could be happy all the time; he loved the way she smiled.

Oliver had seen Natalie smile at various individuals: a pure and carefree smile toward Roger, a gentle and determined one at Lucas, and a confident and powerful one when she stood on stage to receive an award.

‘As for when she smiled at me…’

Oliver took a moment to recall them specifically - the smiles ranged from helpless to playful, smug to grateful.

These memories stirred a sense of jealousy in Oliver. He wanted to hide her away, to be the only one to see her.

Jamie sighed in satisfaction after his meal. The meal was so delicious that he finally understood why Rosy May always praised Natalie’s culinary skills, which Isaac was also interested in.

Jamie sent a photo of his empty plate to Charles, eager to show off to Charles.

[Charles: Did you run out of money? Are you telling me to buy you a meal?]

[Jamie: Nonsense! Natalie cooked for me! I devoured everything! It was delicious!]

[Charles: What? Oliver didn’t object to it?]

[Jamie: No, he approved. It was really delicious…]

Jamie wanted to continue showing off, but when he sent another message, he received a notification.

[You’re no longer friends with the other party.]

Charles was angry. As Oliver’s right-hand man, he had yet to taste Natalie’s cooking, but Jamie, the college graduate turned bodyguard, actually tasted Natalie’s cooking before he did. Not only that, but Jamie had the nerve to show off in front of him! This was utterly maddening to Charles.

Charles contemplated venting his frustrations on Isaac but decided against it, knowing well that Isaac would only curse at him in a fit of anger.

When Oliver and Natalie arrived at the police station, Adrian and Noah were already present.

At this moment, Edwin and Hailey were in the midst of giving their statements.

The door of the interrogation room was firmly shut. Through the one-way glass, Hailey could be seen answering the interrogator's questions with a mocking expression.

In another room, a muscular man in his forties was also being questioned.

After a little more than an hour, the investigators approached them.

"We have almost confirmed that Hailey is among the culprits."

Natalie, Adrian, and Noah were stunned.

‘Hailey? How’s that possible?!’

Edwin said remorsefully, “I’m sorry, Adrian, Noah. If I hadn’t brought Hailey to Father’s celebration, this wouldn’t have happened.”

At this time, the Harrington siblings had no desire to hear more from Edwin.

Meanwhile, Oliver looked at Edwin with a cold and mocking smirk on his face.

The officer explained, "The individual in Interrogation Room B is the murderer. Tests have indicated his strength is consistent with the strangulation marks found on the victim. He was a recent addition to the villa's service staff and was found to be having an affair with the suspect, Hailey.”

"Driven by his obsession with the suspect, he was manipulated by her into throwing the victim from the building during a confrontation, making him the actual perpetrator. The woman in Interrogation Room A is the suspect, Hailey.”

"Although she was initially uncooperative, she ultimately admitted to her role. Her prior false accusations against Oliver stemmed from personal animosity between them."

The officer turned to Oliver, asking, "Sir, can you confirm that the suspect had a grudge against you?"

“Yes,” Oliver responded, his tone icy.

"The suspect may face charges for instigation or as an accessory, depending on the court's decision," the officer concluded.

Hailey and the man identified as the murderer were escorted from the premises by two officers. The man, his hands secured in handcuffs, bore a vacant expression on his face, devoid of any resistance or signs of remorse. His gaze briefly swept across the gathered crowd before he averted his eyes.

Oliver noted the man’s eyes lingered on Edwin just half a second longer compared to everyone else.

Adrian, overwhelmed by grief and anger, charged at the murderer. He shouted, punching and kicking, "I'll kill you! You took my mother’s life!”

Although the police understood the pain inflicted by the suspect on the victim’s family, they had to intervene, separating them.

On the other hand, Noah’s focus was completely on Hailey. Tears streamed down her face as she questioned, "Why did you do this, Hailey? I’ve always treated you sincerely! I didn’t even care about you using me as a shield. My mother truly regarded you as her daughter-in-law! Why would you kill her? Why?!”

"Sincerity?"

Hailey laughed mockingly. Her once glamorous face was now marked with pain and bitterness. She pointed accusatorily at Adrian and Noah as she said scornfully, “Noah, your ‘sincerity’ was only because I was useful to you! And Adrian! His sincerity includes sleeping with women every other day! He even brought his pregnant lover to taunt me! Your mother never truly cared about me! She only saw me as a trophy, suitable to boost the family’s image! Sincerity? The Harrington family’s sincerity is worthless!”

Noah, devastated, struggled to accept this harsh portrayal of their family. The realization that Hailey harbored such resentment toward them was a profound shock to her.

Hailey then turned her attention to Natalie, her tone shifting from furious to eerily calm as she said, "Natalie, are you satisfied now? Oliver not only escaped blame but also announced your marriage and status as Mrs. Windsor to the world! You have a powerful and handsome husband to show off from now on!”

Natalie frowned slightly. The public disclosure of their marriage was not a source of joy for her. In her eyes, the timing of the announcement seemed reactionary, a response to rumors and speculation by the media regarding her relationship with Roger.

Oliver's reaction was driven by a deep sense of possessiveness, an unwillingness to let her name be linked with anyone else's.

Suddenly, Hailey’s demeanor changed drastically. In one moment, she seemed defeated and resigned to her fate, but in the next moment, she turned into a dangerous assailant, pulling a knife out and lunging at Natalie at an alarming speed.

The distance between them was mere steps.

The knife, gleaming and sharp, sliced through the air.

Oliver reacted immediately, kicking the knife and sending it skittering away. In the next moment, fresh blood could be seen on his clothes.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
