Chapter 679 A Married Man is Less Noticed
The theme park was designed for kids, students, and couples, so the play performed there was a bit over-the-top, with slightly childish lines. However, the actors did an excellent job, nailing every detail and expression.
The half-hour show had concluded, and the audience started to leave. Natalie pulled on Oliver's hand to join the crowd exiting.
Oliver's height made him stand out, and many turned to look at him. Natalie overheard some girls whispering nearby:
"Did you see that hot guy? Wow! I want to get his number!"
"You can tell he's hot even with that hat?" her friend replied incredulously. "Forget it, didn't you see the lady walking in front of him? They're dressed in matching outfits."
Natalie paused a beat as she walked ahead, instinctively reaching back to touch the embroidery on her dress shirt.
Once they stepped out of the theater, she leaned over to sneak a peek at the back of Oliver's shirt. It was indeed the couple's dress shirt she had bought for him earlier that day.
Oliver was known for his cool detachment with his expressionless demeanor that set him apart. And his aura of seriousness and chilled presence that intimidated anyone who crossed his path.
A man like him typically dressed in tailored suits, and at his most casual, would don simple monochrome or khaki ensembles—that suited him best.
However, now he was wearing this shirt which, at first glance, appeared simple and conventional. The distinctive touch of the designer was evident in the cuffs and buttons, but the embroidery on the back had transformed his whole vibe.
The shirt boasted a splash of embroidered, colorful birds. Which was a design that most fashionable guys couldn't pull off well, especially when paired with a shirt. But on Oliver's body, any item, no matter the style or intended demographic, would complement his unique charm.
"When did you change?" Natalie didn't recall Oliver changing clothes, and as she said this, she circled him twice, assessing him from head to toe.
"After the meeting, you didn't come back, and I got bored, so I switched." Oliver would never admit to Natalie that he couldn't wait to change the moment she left the office.
Although he wasn't too fond of the shirt, it was Natalie who had bought it. Could he dislike something bought by his wife?
Incredibly, during a two-hour meeting, not a single person seemed to notice anything special about the shirt! It was a matching couple's shirt!
Didn't his company executives pay any attention to what they wore or go clothes shopping at all?
"You must have been bored…" Natalie murmured, barely holding back a chuckle as she looked at him.
A shadow crossed Oliver's face, "Does it look bad? Is the shirt ugly?"
"Of course not, it looks great!" Natalie reassured him, giving him a thumbs up. She couldn't hide her amusement and said cheerfully, "It just doesn't quite fit the Mr. Windsor vibe and presence you've got."
Oliver's expression brightened a bit as he lazily crossed his arms and leaned against the railing behind him, asking, "And what would that vibe and presence be?"
"Hmm…" Natalie pondered for a moment and replied, "Right now, in this outfit, you look like a trendy college heartthrob, maybe even a grad student or big man on campus."
]Of course, that is if you didn't give people death glares, or use your low pressure and cold aura to squash them,’ she mused.
Oliver raised an eyebrow, "Did that grad student ever come back looking for you?"
Natalie blinked in confusion, thinking, ‘What the heck was that about?’
Natalie took a good while to grasp what Oliver was talking about. It brought to mind one public declaration of love from over a year ago that she and Jane had experienced together at school.
"What are you digging that up for? If you hadn’t brought it up, I’d have forgotten all about it! That’s all, old news by now!" Natalie said with irritation but couldn't help teasing, "Mr. Windsor is truly a genius, with such a good memory."
"I remember every guy who's ever tried to compete with me for a woman,” he remarked, his tone had a hint of jealousy.
Not to be outdone, Natalie retorted, "Then maybe I should remember a few too."
Oliver, nonchalantly raising an eyelid, inquired, "Who?"
Susan was someone neither of them wished to mention, and Cadence was now on fairly good terms with Natalie. And as awkward as their relationship might be, these two were people Natalie would never bring up. Other than that, Oliver couldn't recall any other suitors.
"There are plenty," Natalie boasted, recalling her visit to the Rosewood Estate the day after her return. "Just the next day, someone came looking for Grandma, asking her to put in a good word with you. It was old Mrs. Wood; Grandma said that member of the Wood family was the third one this month."
"The third one? That does seem a bit much," Oliver admitted.
Natalie nodded, "Look at you, attracting suitors left and right, so don't talk about me!"
Oliver wrapped his arms around Natalie's waist and planted a quick kiss on her face, "Well, you better hurry up and announce our relationship. People will stop having their eyes on me once they know I'm a married man."
Natalie thought to herself in disbelief, ‘It just goes to show, some men have no notion of self-reflection. Even if you were a married man, people wouldn't stop being interested in you!’
Observing Oliver's aversion to this kind of entertainment, Natalie abandoned the idea of pursuing such activities. Instead, she opted to take him elsewhere to try other thrilling rides.
As it turned out, Oliver hardly batted an eye after several adrenaline-pumping challenges.
Natalie, who had been coaxed by Jane to try these rides several times before, had built up her courage, but even after all that, she looked a bit pale.
It was very thrilling!
"Oliver, how come you're acting like nothing's wrong?" Natalie asked, perplexed. She felt it defied all logic. "After all those drops and high-speed spins, you feel nothing?"
As she spoke, Natalie was sure she saw a flash of "It's nothing, you're just weak," cross over Oliver's face.
"Did you used to play these a lot?" Natalie asked but then doubted herself, knowing Oliver's personality; he wouldn't be caught dead hanging around an amusement park, let alone enjoying the rides.
"No," Oliver shook his head, "but I used to do other stuff."
"Like what?" she asked curiously.
"Skydiving, deep-sea diving, speed climbing, surfing, mountain biking," Oliver paused, "and flying planes right after I graduated from Harmony University."
"...All extreme sports with high fatality rates,” she said, shocked.
Oliver nodded and casually gestured at the surrounding park attractions, commenting, "That's why this is child's play."
Natalie was speechless. ‘Will you just shut up!’ she felt annoyed.
Noticing her pouting lips and her cheeks puffed out in annoyance, while she looked down, seemingly muttering to herself or feeling lost, Oliver wasn't quite sure what to make of it.
"However, it's not childish when I'm accompanying my lady," Oliver thought about ruffling Natalie's hair, but his hand only reached the brim of her baseball cap, which made his gesture feel overly exaggerated compared to her petite head.
Natalie let out a sigh, "I guess I should have known. Someone like you wouldn't enjoy a theme park. Usually, it's kids, parents with their kids, or at the very least students or student couples."
