Chapter 762 Taking Anthony Away?
"Jane!" Natalie finally saw Jane. She had been waiting for her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Jane approached while sensing Natalie's gaze.
Natalie didn't look away. She smiled and said, "I'm trying to figure out how you feel!" she pretended to look oblivious.
Jane snorted disdainfully and laughed, "Do you expect me to cry for him?" then, she asked Natalie and Oliver, "Why are you two here?"
"We came here to have fun with you!" Natalie didn't say she was worried about Jane. But they had been friends for so many years. Even if Natalie didn't say it, Jane would know the reason.
"Mr. Windsor, are you here to be her bodyguard?" Jane asked Oliver with a smile. She used to hate Oliver, but fortunately, he seemed to love and cherish Natalie.
Oliver was there to support Jane. But instead of answering, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Jane, are you planning to leave or wait until the ceremony is over?" by ceremony, he meant the engagement banquet.
"Of course, I'll wait until it’s over," Jane said indifferently. "The Clark family went to great lengths to have me here. How can I leave early? What if they start thinking I’m running away because I was too heartbroken and lacked confidence?" she wanted to see Anthony and Aurora go through their engagement party.
Oliver was always a popular figure on any occasion. When Oliver and Natalie first entered, some people were surprised to see Natalie because she was a friend of Jane, The Clark Family’s enemy. But they hesitated to approach her because of Oliver’s high social status and notoriously cold temperament. But upon knowing they were guests at the engagement party, all the other guests were relieved they had nothing to worry about. Some even perceived it as a good occasion to curry favor with Oliver.
"Mr. Windsor, I've heard about you before. I am."
"Mr. Windsor, I didn't expect to see you here!"
"Mr. Windsor, what a coincidence!"
Many people greeted Oliver, trying to talk to him. But Oliver remained cold and merely nodded in response. He rejected their attempts to engage in conversation.
Suddenly, someone from the crowd said, "Mr. Windsor, you and Miss Watson look good together!"
Those words instantly caught Oliver's attention. Then, everyone in the room heard the previously silent Oliver nod and say, "Thank you."
The guests looked closely and saw a faint smile on Oliver’s face. He hadn’t said a word before. But at that moment, he was smiling. The guests were all shocked. Afterward, that person and Oliver chatted briefly before reaching a verbal agreement. As the person left with a satisfied smile, the guests stared at each other in surprise and seemed to have learned a lesson. If they wanted to please Oliver, they had to bring Natalie into the conversation, and in a good way.
Everyone cautiously observed Oliver and Natalie. They were shocked to notice how often Oliver glanced at Natalie, and how Oliver would separate any man who got too close to her. He looked possessive and protective. The sight made the guests draw the same conclusion; Oliver and Natalie were back together. They were sure of it. But nobody dared to ask foolishly if Oliver and Natalie had reconciled. They could only wildly guess in their hearts and ponder what kind of charm Natalie had to make a man like Oliver, the distinguished man, fall for her. He even seemed to care about her more than before.
Some of the guests showed regret on their faces. This was because they had expected to marry their daughter to Oliver. But with his reconciliation, their dreams were shattered.
There were also a handful of wealthy young individuals present. They looked at Oliver and were envious of his opportunity to marry someone without his family’s influence. They also wanted to marry the person they desired. But unfortunately, they didn’t have the same courage as Oliver. He started with nothing and built his business empire, a move that prevented his family from controlling and threatening him.
"Why don’t you chat with the guests? I'll go find Jane," Natalie urged. Jane had walked in with them before. But when the guests swarmed Natalie and Oliver, she didn’t want to disturb them and stepped aside.
When Natalie looked for Jane, she spotted her surrounded by several unfriendly socialites. "She’ll be fine. Look!" Oliver said, holding Natalie's hand tightly. He didn't want her to leave his sight. Meanwhile, Natalie followed Oliver's gaze and saw a man in a white suit slowly walking toward Jane.
"Jane, long time no see! I didn't expect you to attend such an elite occasion. You must be quite resourceful."
"Well, as long as she removes her clothes and lies on the bed, many rich men will bring her along. Let’s not forget, Ladies, her class is different from us socialites!"
One person laughed and added, "Exactly! Jane, since your sugar daddy invited you here, why didn't he get you a nice dress? Where did you buy those cheap clothes? I've never seen this kind of style before. Did you go dumpster diving and pick them up?"
"Seriously, Jane, you shouldn't be appearing in elite events such as this. With such a lowly background, you aren’t good enough to stand among us."
Jane hated to make friends with snobby, high-class socialites. They enjoyed mocking others and considered themselves superior to everyone else. Fortunately, Jane was confident. She had self-respect and knew her worth, unlike those losers who found joy in ridiculing others.
"Jane, I have a terrible memory. If I remember correctly, didn’t your family go bankrupt, your beloved brother died, and the man you loved wanted to marry someone else? Are those the reasons why you’re here? Planning to take Anthony away?" one socialite mocked and the others burst into laughter.
As their laughter rang out, there was a sudden scream, followed by several women shrieking in panic. Jane stepped forward and slapped the last socialite who questioned her. Before she could react, Jane had pressed her body to the ground, binding her hands behind her back with one hand. When Jane pressed her knee against the socialite's waist, the socialite cried out in pain, looking disheveled. All of this happened in an instant. Jane's movements were so quick that people could barely see.
"They're fighting!"
"Jane, let go! Do you always have to make a scene?"
"Where are the security guards? Get them to throw Jane out!" other socialites shouted as if they were being assaulted. However, the woman pinned by Jane remained still on the floor.
"What did you say about my brother?" Jane's voice was calm and cold. Her lips were pressed against the socialite's ear. Jane's question was like the prelude to death.
"I..." The socialite didn't dare to repeat her words. "I heard from someone that Jovan died in Moalia. It wasn't me who said it first!"
News of Jovan's death had spread countless times over the years. Everyone believed it was normal for a dying person, sustained only by liquid nutrients, to die in bed.
"Who told you?" Jane continued asking as though she was determined to get to the bottom of it.
