Chapter 913 The Murderer

"Why are you bringing this up?" Caleb was taken aback.

"When Grandma was alive, she always reminded you to stick to your original intentions and be kind to others. Do you remember what she said to you before she passed away?" Samuel continued.

Caleb flickered his eyes and pursed his lips, looking away awkwardly.

"Before Grandma left, the two things she couldn't let go of were your heart and her granddaughter. She probably already knew that Susan wasn't her beloved Natty. After Susan was found, Grandma never called her Natty by her nickname."

Caleb hadn't done either of those two things well.

Without Emma, Caleb turned back into that selfish old man.

Emma's most missed granddaughter Natalie had been found, but Caleb and the others had never treated Natalie well.

If Emma were still alive, she would be heartbroken.

At least Natalie wouldn't be forced to bow her head to the Hastings family.

"What's the point of saying all this? I also want to treat Natalie well. I consider her my granddaughter, but she doesn't acknowledge me! Susan may not be of our bloodline, but she was raised by us. I should treat her well too." Caleb darkened his expression and knew that he had done wrong, but he couldn't accept Samuel's criticism.

Samuel licked his lips with a complex gaze, as if struggling with something.

After a while, Samuel said, "What if I told you that Grandma's death years ago wasn't an accident?"

In the shocked eyes of Caleb and James, Samuel continued, "Grandma's death was suspicious. She had always been in good health, but her condition deteriorated rapidly after Susan's return. I always thought it was because Grandma doubted Susan's identity, which weighed on her. Until last year, I accidentally found the medication she used in her belongings. Those pills were swapped with slow-acting poison!"

"What are you saying!" James, who had been silent, widened his eyes in shock.

"Are you suggesting that Susan switched Emma’s medication?" Caleb tightly pressed his lips together, his gaze fixed on Samuel, trying to see if Samuel was lying.

Caleb said, "That's impossible. Susan was just a child back then."

"Then why did the two paternity tests back then confirm that she was a member of the Hastings family?" Caleb pointed out the fatal flaw.

"When Susan was found, Grandma always said she wasn't her beloved granddaughter. Later, two paternity tests were done, both confirming that Susan was a member of the Hastings family. However, the paternity test I personally arranged this time proved that Susan is not!" Samuel said. "One paternity test mistake could be accidental, but two mistakes were unlikely. Given our family's reputation and status, how could the hospital be so careless about this matter."

"Are you suggesting that someone was deliberately manipulating things behind the scenes?" James speculated.

"Whether someone did it intentionally, I don't know." Samuel squinted. "All I know is that Grandma was the only one who firmly doubted Susan's identity. Her death was suspicious. After she passed away, Susan finally solidified her position in the Hastings family."

At this point, no one would believe that Susan and Emma's deaths were unrelated.

Caleb turned extremely grim, unable to believe what was happening.

So, if their current suspicions were true, who altered the paternity test results for Susan and who switched Emma's medication? If Susan was the one who switched the medication, who provided it to Susan? Who intentionally brought Susan into the Hastings family, causing Susan and Natalie to swap their life paths?

"Caleb, the person you are pressuring now is the beloved one Grandma was thinking of before she died. The person you are defending may be the murderer who harmed your beloved. Do you understand?" Samuel said with a heavy heart.

Caleb instantly turned pale. He staggered back, sitting down heavily on the sofa.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
