Chapter 813 Natalie, Stop Looking at Me Like That
"Did Samuel leave?" Natalie suddenly remembered the madman who had been persistently calling her 'sister'.
Oliver confirmed that he had.
It seemed likely that Samuel had returned to his country for a DNA investigation.
Exhausted, Natalie decided she did not want to argue with Oliver anymore. She had a few spoonfuls of cereal before she said, "I want to see Casey."
"Have some more," Oliver urged, noting the small amount of food she had consumed, "You've eaten less than a cat would."
He seemed determined not to let her leave unless she ate more.
Taking a deep breath, Natalie managed two more bites before the urge to vomit overwhelmed her, causing her to throw up everything she had just eaten. She began coughing uncontrollably after vomiting.
"Alright, you don't have to eat anymore, you don't have to eat anymore," Oliver said, rushing to support her.
Since Natalie had not eaten much, the vomit was mostly stomach acid. As the nausea finally subsided, she was left with a bitter taste in her mouth and her face turned pale.
"Can I go see Casey now?" she asked, "I can't eat anymore."
Casey's ward was not in the same area as Natalie's.
Recently moved from the ICU, Casey was now in a private suite, which was second only to the VIP rooms in the hospital.
Natalie was sure that such an arrangement had not been made by the competition's organizing committee; even if they were generous, they would not provide such a premium room for an assistant. Oliver likely had a hand in it.
"She only has ten minutes for visitors."
As per hospital recommendations to rest and protect her pregnancy, Oliver carried her since she was advised not to walk.
Although Oliver did not feel much affection for the child Natalie was carrying, he knew the pregnancy was a leverage point. Moreover, a miscarriage would be devastating for Natalie, both physically and emotionally.
"You lied to me again," Natalie said as she looked at Oliver emotionlessly. Even the ICU allowed a half-hour of visiting time daily, and since Casey was no longer there, the visiting time should not be just ten minutes.
Oliver confessed, "Yes, I lied to you. I only gave you ten minutes."
He believed that two patients did not need to visit each other, especially since Casey, who had been nurtured by Roger, was not the most cheerful person.
Casey exhibited remarkable resilience. Her recovery from anesthesia was quicker than usual, and she regained consciousness rapidly, with her overall recovery progressing better than average. When Natalie entered the ward and saw Casey, she noticed Casey looked spirited but somewhat frail.
"Miss, why are you here?!" Casey exclaimed, visibly stunned. If it were not for the injury on her waist, she might have jumped up. She asked, "Didn't the doctor tell you to stay in bed to protect the baby?"
"I'm worried, so I came to see you."
Accompanying Natalie were several medical staff. At Oliver's signal, they moved a large recliner next to Casey's bed.
Oliver carefully placed Natalie in the chair and adjusted it to make it easier for her to talk to Casey.
"I'm fine," Casey reassured her, saying, "You should take care of yourself."
To Casey, Natalie was not just a friend but akin to a master, deserving of unwavering loyalty.
…
After ten minutes, Oliver promptly carried Natalie back to her hospital room.
The head chef had prepared another breakfast, this one even more appealing than the last.
"Oliver, are you planning to stay with me all the time?" Natalie asked as she noticed him sitting down by her bed.
Earlier, Jamie had entered with an anxious look, clearly wanting to speak to Oliver, but in the end, he had left without saying anything.
Oliver nodded.
"Don't you have work?" Natalie inquired.
"Not at the moment," Oliver replied with a straight face.
'How could he not have work?'
Natalie remembered how, during a previous injury to her leg, Oliver had stayed by her side day and night, caring for her and ignoring all else. Even when he returned to work, he had brought her along to the company. Recalling these memories, she felt deeply wronged. Despite everything they had been through, it seemed their approach to resolving issues remained unchanged. Both were stubborn, clinging to their own views without proper communication.
"Oliver, don't worry. Since I decided to keep the child this morning, I'm not going to change my mind," Natalie said mockingly with a laugh, "You don't need to follow me around as if you're guarding a prisoner."
"I don't see you as a prisoner," Oliver responded earnestly, looking at her.
Natalie looked at him.
Oliver gently covered Natalie's eyes. He said softly, "Natalie, please don't look at me like that. Don't look at me with that questioning and mocking gaze. You're my life."
"Go about your business. There's no need to stay with me," Natalie said as she picked up a spoon and stirred her food. This time, the head chef had prepared something more to her liking.
"Natalie, I don't have anything urgent to attend to," Oliver replied, clearly forgetting that an assistant was waiting anxiously outside the ward, and another was handling company matters for him in Yuuis.
"Well, can you not be here then?" Natalie rephrased her request, saying, "I don't want to see you right now. If you want me to be even more upset, then stay!"
Oliver's expression darkened. After a moment, he quietly left the room.
Shortly after Oliver's departure, a nurse came in and began to clean up.
"Hello, do you know about Casey's condition in room 5031?" Natalie asked, though she did not hold much hope.
The nurse's eyes brightened. "Are you referring to the lady who was admitted with you?"
Natalie nodded.
"I'm not very clear on her condition, but she was very concerned about your safety when she woke up from anesthesia. She didn't even ask about her own condition, which really left an impression on me. Is she your sister? She's very good to you!"
'Sister?'
Natalie did not have such a good sister. In her childhood, she had viewed Susan as a sister figure, but as she grew up, she realized she was the sister figure to Lucas, her brother.
A wave of sadness washed over her.
…
Meanwhile, after Oliver left the ward, Jamie, seeing that the former was alone, immediately approached him.
"Sir, urgent documents from Collin require your attention. You..."
"I have no time."
Oliver continued to walk toward Casey's ward, ignoring Jamie.
Jamie was left fuming. He thought to himself, 'You told us not to disturb you with work when she's around, but now that she's not with you, you still don’t want to work! You don't even look like a competent CEO now!'
