Chapter 1132 You Like Jane
"He said you must come, otherwise he won't cooperate to resolve the issue. Oh, and your bag, I haven't gotten it yet." Lester said.
Jane wondered if it was too late to fire Lester now.
"But I just got your work log and read through it. I've memorized everything," Lester added.
Jane felt a lump in her throat, unable to swallow or spit it out. 'Can't he just finish his sentences in one go?'
When Lester said he remembered, he definitely remembered, and he never made mistakes. One of the reasons Jane chose Lester as her employee was because of his photographic memory.
"I don't need the bag. I'll transfer the money to your card. You get Anthony to settle it privately. If he's unwilling, then we'll go public with it." Jane quickly decided.
Lester glanced nervously at Anthony, who was smoking in front of him.
Anthony was wearing a light trench coat, with his left hand in his pocket and a cigarette between the fingers of his right hand. Smoke rings drifted from his thin lips, and his eyes filled with detached indifference and loneliness, as if nothing in the world could catch his attention or as if the world had abandoned him.
Yet, this very person was clinging to Jane.
Lester, looking distressed, said, "Jane, I want to leave too, but his bodyguard said I can't go until the issue is resolved."
Jane closed her eyes tightly, cursing inwardly, and she knew Anthony was forcing her to contact him.
Jane didn't understand. Anthony had seemed so normal at the poker table. How did he go crazy again after just two days?
If Anthony hadn't insisted on her going, Jane might have considered it, but now she definitely wouldn't go.
Why should she go just because Anthony asked her to?
Jane thought for a moment and dialed a number.
"Calvin, I'm giving you a chance to redeem yourself. If you can't handle this, our lifelong friendship is over!"
Lester had hit Anthony's car outside the parking lot.
Anthony wasn't in a hurry, standing there quietly, waiting. Clint, who was with him, even asked Lester if he needed a chair to sit and wait.
"No need!" Lester replied righteously, "Don't think you can bribe me by being nice and make me betray Jane!"
Clint chuckled, wondering what was going through the young's mind nowadays.
"We're not trying to bribe you," Clint said. "You don't seem very smart; Jane would catch you in no time if you were a spy."
"Then why are you offering me a chair and not Anthony?" Lester argued logically.
"Mr. Clark is used to waiting for Jane," Clint replied.
Lester was taken aback, looking at Clint in confusion. "Anthony used to wait for Jane often?"
"Of course," Clint said, having a good impression of Lester because of his loyalty to Jane. He couldn't help but add, "Jane and Mr. Clark have known each other since high school. They used to be very close."
Clint wanted Lester to know that Anthony and Jane had a strong bond and not to interfere.
Lester nodded, saying, "Most ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends used to be close. Otherwise, how could they have dated? But breaking up means they're not close anymore."
'Does Jane's studio list eloquence and critical thinking as hiring criteria? How can even a seemingly not-so-bright man like Lester be so articulate?' Clint thought.
Half an hour later, a red Ferrari approached and stopped.
Anthony was about to straighten his clothes when he saw a man's footstep out of the driver's seat.
The moment Calvin saw Anthony's expression, his heart sank.
"Mr. Clark, long time no see!" Calvin greeted Anthony awkwardly.
Anthony glanced at Calvin indifferently, not saying a word, his expression clearly saying, "What are you doing here? We're not close."
Calvin, entrusted by Jane, had no choice but to brace himself. He pointed at Lester and said, "Mr. Clark, I'm here to pick up Lester. Tell me how much compensation your car needs, and I'll transfer the money to you. Can you do me this favor?"
Anthony took a drag of his cigarette, glanced sideways at Calvin, and said, "Why should I do you a favor? Why is it you? Where's Jane?"
"Jane has an urgent matter at the studio," Calvin replied.
Anthony sneered, clearly not believing it. "Tell Jane to come herself."
Anthony paused and added, "Calvin's father once asked me to enlighten you. Now, it is a good opportunity."
It took Calvin a few seconds to realize Anthony meant he was now a hostage, too!
Soon, Jane received a call from Calvin.
"Jane, our lifelong friendship might be over." Calvin continued, "Mr. Clark said you must come in person, or I can't leave either."
"You're are quite awesome!" Jane knew Anthony wouldn't let it go, but she never expected Calvin to be so useless and get caught up in it himself.
Calvin, looking ashen, said, "Jane, save me! I got myself into this for you!"
"Forget it, just stay there!" Jane said, angrily hanging up the phone.
But despite her words, she couldn't really ignore them.
On the other end, Calvin hung up, looking relieved.
Clint couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Green, Ms. Watkins said she wouldn't come for you. Aren't you going to persuade her?"
Clint, of course, hoped Jane would come.
Calvin waved his hand. "She just says that. She'll be here soon."
Anthony's gaze turned icy, and he looked coldly at Calvin. He said, "You seem to know her well."
But to Calvin, it sounded like, "You think you know her better than I do? Are you tired of living?"
Calvin quickly corrected himself. "Not really! Definitely not as well as Mr. Clark!"
Anthony just glanced at Calvin, not responding, but he seemed satisfied with Calvin's words.
Calvin breathed a sigh of relief, muttering, "What did I do to get caught between you couple!"
Clint, holding back laughter, finally found someone else suffering from Anthony and Jane's complicated relationship.
Calvin wasn't one to sit idle. Unlike Lester, who kept his head down and stayed quiet, Calvin's mind was always active, and he decided to target Anthony.
Anthony saw Calvin sneak over and stand beside him.
"Mr. Clark, I have something to ask, but I'm not sure if I should," Calvin said.
Anthony replied without hesitation, "You shouldn't."
Calvin was taken aback, "But I still want to ask. What's going on between you and Jane?"
Anthony didn't even look at Calvin, clearly not intending to respond.
"Mr. Clark, Jane is very popular now. If you want to pursue her again, you need someone to give you advice, right? In terms of personal relationships with Jane, if I'm second among the guys, no one dares to claim first! Jane and I..."
"Do you like Jane?" Anthony interrupted Calvin, almost using a tone of certainty.
