Chapter 914 Susan Disappeared

Caleb was greatly shocked, almost out of breath. Samuel quickly stuffed a sublingual nitroglycerin tablet into his mouth, calmly helping him catch his breath.

Throughout the process, there was no sign of panic.

"What evidence do you have to prove what you're saying is true?" Caleb, struggled, couldn't believe it.

How could Caleb believe such a sudden piece of news? How could he believe that Susan, whom he had cherished for over a decade, was the culprit behind the death of his beloved Emma? How could he believe that he was not a loyal and devoted old man, but a blind and deceived one?

Caleb refused to believe!

"Caleb, as long as you follow what I say and investigate a little, you will know the truth back then. I was bothered to provide any evidence." Samuel chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Back then, when I presented the paternity test report to you as evidence, it was all in vain."

People only wanted to be close to what they wanted.

James fell into a long silence. His relationship with his mother Emma was much better than with Caleb. When Emma passed away, she had always been thinking about her precious granddaughter Natalie. As a result, for over a decade, James had doted on Susan, whom he thought was his daughter.

But now all his thoughts and affection were just a joke!

After a while, James took out a cigarette to smoke. "Why didn't you tell us earlier?"

"It's all for your own good." Samuel looked at James and Caleb, who looked ashen, and couldn't help but sigh at the whims of fate. "If I had known the result would still be like this, I should have told you earlier. You would have been sad and self-reproachful, but it's better than this endless pressure and harm to Natalie. They don't owe our family anything."

The smoke from the cigarette filled the room.

The smell of nicotine numbed the senses.

Caleb seemed to age ten years in just a few minutes.

After a while, there was finally some movement. Samuel was given a phone number. "Call this number and have them bring Susan over."

Natalie and Oliver received Samuel's call halfway.

"It's done," Samuel said.

Although these words seemed disconnected, Natalie almost immediately understood what Samuel meant.

"Are they willing to let Susan donate bone marrow?" Natalie was both surprised and delighted, with a lot of disbelief.

Natalie dealt directly with the Hastings family and knew their mercenary nature. This was a perfect opportunity to leverage their power. They would be willing to let her go so easily.

"Yes," Samuel said, looking at the quiet starry sky outside the window, recalling James and Caleb's desolation, feeling bone-weary.

No matter how disappointed he was in his family, Samuel still held onto a glimmer of hope and reluctance.

Samuel never expected that even this trace of reluctance in his heart would feel like a betrayal to Natalie. Even if James and Caleb had such ugly and detestable sides, Samuel would instinctively defend them. So he felt somewhat sorry for Natalie.

"How did you convince them? Did you offer any conditions?" Natalie didn't think the Hastings family would give in so easily. "Samuel, don't sacrifice anything for my sake."

"No." Samuel felt a dull pain in his heart, a sense of relief, but more self-blame. "Natalie, don't overthink it. They have nothing to threaten me with."

"Why did they suddenly agree then?" Natalie asked.

Samuel didn't want to give reasons or want to tell Natalie that the beloved elder of the Hastings family was most likely killed by Susan. But now, Natalie had to let Susan go to save a life.

Even if Susan carried the burden of several lives, Natalie still couldn't bring herself to bring Susan to justice now.

"Natalie, I'm sorry," Samuel suddenly said.

Natalie was stunned for a few seconds and said lightly, "You don't need to apologize. This is not your fault."

It wasn't Samuel's fault, he apologized on behalf of his family. So Natalie wouldn't accept it.

With the elders of the Hastings family relenting, Susan's fate was essentially sealed.

Natalie informed the hospital of this good news, facilitating the hospital's follow-up plans.

At the old mansion of the Hastings family, Tycoon City.

Helen hurriedly ran into Susan's room.

Susan was in the room looking at the latest seasonal clothes released by top brands, preparing to make a purchase.

Although Susan was currently trapped in the Hastings family's old mansion and unable to leave, she believed that she would soon reappear in public with a brand new identity and innocence. At that time, Susan would reclaim her central position in the socialite circle.

The Hastings family now used her as a bargaining chip, hiring many bodyguards to protect her and contacting various external forces, so she didn't need to worry about being coerced by Oliver.

The door suddenly burst open from the outside, making a violent impact sound.

Susan subconsciously thought it was some careless servant, furrowing her brows in anger, about to scold them, but she saw Helen's anxious expression.

"Susan, pack up some important things and leave quickly!" Helen said as she randomly grabbed a bag for Susan and stuffed it with a bunch of cash.

"Mother, what's wrong?" Susan had a bad feeling.

"I just heard someone call the head of the security company, saying to take you to Paykston immediately. Then I received a call from your father who required you to go donate bone marrow." Helen pulled the still dazed Susan up. "Hurry, or it will be too late!"

"Why do I have to leave? Wasn't the deal already negotiated?" Susan was confused.

"What deal! They only arrived in Paykston this morning. How could the deal be settled so quickly? Have you heard any rumors outside vindicating you? Based on Caleb’s character, even if a deal was reached, it would only be after Natalie and Oliver took actual action with results, then he would relent. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths to prepare so many things to guard against Oliver."

"Are you saying that Caleb has given up on me?" Susan was defeated. "Has he really abandoned me? Can he let go of the alliance with the Simmons family?"

Susan knew exactly why Caleb had kept her until now and why he wanted to help her return to the socialite circle.

Caleb had been planning for this. How could he suddenly give up?

"I don't know the specific reasons." Helen urged. "But Susan, if you are sent to Paykston, even if you don't want to, you will have to give your bone marrow to save Lucas but won't get anything in return."

Helen persuaded Susan, "Susan, take this money and find a way to contact Natalie yourself. Let them help you restore your reputation. Otherwise, your life will be ruined without redemption!"

Helen changed Susan into a servant's outfit. In the gap between the security personnel's handover, she hurriedly sent Susan away.

When the security company's people arrived, they found the whole bedroom empty.

Susan's whereabouts were nowhere to be found throughout the entire Hastings family.

Just as Samuel had ordered dinner for Caleb and James, he received a call from the security company.

After hanging up the phone, Samuel looked at the two of them with a solemn expression and said a few words, "Susan has disappeared."

He stood still, motionless, becoming increasingly grim between Caleb and James.

Caleb and James were deeply affected by the news from Samuel, appearing much weaker.

Even if Samuel didn't like such family members, he had to stay and take care of them.
