Chapter 1137 Jane Dumped Me
Inside the Rosewood Estate, Oliver watched Nathan play with toys on the carpet, feeling him increasingly useless.
Nathan couldn't keep Natalie and was easily swayed by her.
Oliver's mood soured when his phone rang. The caller ID: [Anthony].
Jane had just taken Natalie away, and now Anthony was calling. Were they doing this on purpose?
"Hello," Oliver answered, his tone clearly irritated.
"Oliver, want to go out for a drink?" Anthony asked bluntly.
Oliver clicked his tongue. "Did you and Jane plan this?"
"What?" Anthony replied, confused.
"Jane just took my wife out for a drink, and now you're calling me?" Oliver looked drained.
'Jane is going out for a drink? Why? Is she upset? Or happy she thinks she's finally rid of me?' Anthony wondered.
"Mr. Windsor, just tell me if you're coming out or not," he said.
"Fine," Oliver agreed.
Nathan, on the floor, perked up at the word "drink," staring at Oliver.
Nathan crawled over to Oliver, placing his little hands on Oliver's knees and looking up at him eagerly.
"Daddy!" Nathan called.
Oliver sneered. "You only call me Daddy when you want something."
Nathan kept calling, "Daddy!"
With Natalie not around, he couldn't defy Oliver.
Oliver picked Nathan up with one hand and placed him on his knee, saying to Anthony, "Find a quiet place. I need to bring someone."
"Your wife?" Anthony asked.
"No," Oliver replied.
Half an hour later, Anthony saw who Oliver had brought and was speechless.
"This is who you wanted to bring?" Anthony looked incredulously at Nathan sitting on Oliver's knee.
Oliver held Nathan with his left hand and a wine glass with his right, taking a sip. "Don't be jealous; this is my son."
Anthony was indeed a bit envious. If it weren't for that accident, he would also have a cute son, a son belonging to him and Jane.
Anthony and Oliver had a good personal relationship. Although they hadn't known each other long, they appreciated each other.
Most importantly, they had both been through tough times.
The difference was that Oliver now had a happy ending, even with a child.
"Aren't we here to drink? Why aren't you drinking?" Oliver tapped the table, signaling Anthony to drink up.
Anthony stared at Nathan and, after a couple of seconds, asked Oliver, "Can I hold him?"
Oliver didn't answer immediately but looked at Nathan.
It was to ask for Nathan's opinion.
Nathan, holding a bottle, was sucking on it. Seeing Oliver looking at him, he seemed to understand.
Anthony spread his hands in front of Nathan, a gesture inviting him.
Nathan looked at Anthony and, without hesitation, pushed his hands away.
'No holding! No way! I don't even know you!' Nathan thought.
Oliver chuckled, expecting Nathan's reaction.
"Can't help it, he doesn't like you much," Oliver said, not mentioning that Nathan didn't like most strangers.
Nathan didn't like being held, except by Natalie, and occasionally Oliver.
Others rarely got a hug from Nathan; he had a strong personality.
"What's up?" After a couple of drinks, Oliver urged Anthony to get to the point.
Oliver could hold his liquor well, but with Nathan around, he shouldn't drink too much to avoid the alcohol affecting Nathan.
"Nothing much," Anthony said, taking a swig of vodka.
Oliver wasn't playing along. "If it's nothing, I'll head back."
"Head back? Your wife isn't even home." Anthony didn't ask where Natalie was, but he knew if she were home, Oliver would have brought her out.
But now, Oliver had only brought Nathan out with a sour face.
"Are you asking me to drink with you or looking for a fight?" Oliver asked.
Anthony was silent for a couple of seconds, then tapped the table. "Sit."
They continued drinking.
Nathan looked at Oliver, then at the unfamiliar Anthony. Finding nothing interesting, he continued drinking from his bottle.
"Jane dumped me," Anthony suddenly said.
Nathan's big eyes looked at Anthony, making a sound.
Oliver understood Nathan's meaning and generously explained, "Yes, your godmother."
One-year-old Nathan wasn't great at recognizing faces yet, but Natalie often mentioned Jane's name in front of him, so Nathan was very familiar with it.
"Godmother?" Anthony was stunned for a moment and then said, "Well, it's normal for her to be the godmother."
Anthony took a sip of his drink, his self-talk filled with endless melancholy and sadness. "We were supposed to have a son too."
"I know, you lost him." Oliver had heard about it and unceremoniously mocked, "I heard Jane fell down the stairs. Did she not want the baby herself?"
"How do you know?" Anthony frowned in confusion.
"Just a guess." Oliver wouldn't tell Anthony that he had investigated Jane to prevent her from taking Natalie away, and knew Jane's physical condition and reflexes well. It was almost impossible for Jane to fall down the stairs.
Oliver had also almost lost Nathan. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but pat Nathan's head and said to Anthony, "In this regard, you're even more of a failure than I am."
Nathan frowned and dodged Oliver's hand, glaring at him disdainfully.
Nathan didn't like anyone other than Natalie touching his head, including Oliver!
Anthony couldn't take it anymore, and called out, "I asked you to drink with me, not to mock me."
"Since we're here, why not talk?" Oliver was indifferent.
But seeing Anthony's pitiful state, Oliver generously brought the topic back.
"Drowning your sorrows because Jane dumped you?" Oliver said, "But didn't you two end things a long time ago?"
Anthony must have been out of his mind to come to Oliver for comfort!
