Chapter 889 Disappearance

Natalie was concerned about Lucas's health, but she was not in a rush at that moment.

Oliver had been diligently searching for other suitable bone marrow donors.

Given Lucas' stable health condition, there was no immediate need to negotiate with the vicious Susan.

When Natalie and Oliver returned to the hotel to pick up Nathan, they invited Flora and Jane to join them for a meal in gratitude.

Upon entering, Natalie immediately noticed someone was missing. She asked, "Where's Jane?"

She scanned the room but did not find Jane.

Meanwhile, Tina was perched on the bed, enthusiastically explaining to Nathan the medical facts she had recently learned about the human brain.

Flora was sitting beside them, looking amused as she observed the interaction.

Tina was committed to her impromptu 'science lesson', though her explanations were sometimes muddled, and she occasionally slipped into another language.

Nathan, for his part, listened with rapt attention despite understanding little.

Flora finally replied, "Jane had to leave."

Just then, Nathan, lying on the bed with his head tilted toward Natalie and swinging his little arms, started calling out to her, visibly joyful and animated.

"Nathan is so well-behaved. He did not cause any trouble at all," Flora commented as she lifted Nathan and handed him to Natalie, "In the few minutes after you left, he searched for you everywhere. He pouted a few times when he couldn't find you, but he didn't cry. He calmed down after a few minutes."

Some children became quite distressed when separated from their mothers.

"Tina used to cry a lot when she was little," Flora whispered to Natalie, sharing some humorous stories from Tina's early years.

With keen hearing, Tina looked up and protested, "Mommy, I heard that! I didn't cry that much!"

"That's because you don't remember," Flora countered, gesturing towards Nathan, "When you were as young as Nathan, you cried quite a bit."

Tina was naturally a delicate little girl, her cries soft and gentle.

As she watched Nathan, she realized she had never seen him cry before. This observation made her question the tales of her own childhood.

Tina thought Flora was lying to her, so she asked Natalie and Oliver, "Natalie, Oliver, was I a good girl when I was little?"

Oliver glanced between Tina and Nathan but chose to remain silent.

"Tina was a very good girl!" Natalie affirmed as she handed Nathan to Oliver, gently patting Tina's head with a conspiratorial smile directed toward Flora.

Flora did not expose the lie. She knew that Tina was conscious of her image, thinking that crying was unbecoming.

In less than a minute, Nathan began to fuss loudly in Oliver's arms.

Oliver, expressionless, looked down at Nathan who was babbling unintelligibly. Since Nathan had begun making sounds, he seemed particularly vocal when held by Oliver.

Nathan neither smiled nor cried, nor did he use clear words, which had initially led Natalie to worry he might be mute. However, when she observed Nathan's apparent enjoyment in vocalizing at Oliver, her concerns were alleviated.

"Nathan seems to like talking to Oliver, doesn't he?" she remarked with a relieved sigh.

Oliver, however, was convinced that Nathan was not simply talking but rather, scolding him. He walked ahead, carrying Nathan, while Natalie stayed back to chat with Flora.

"Jane just received a call and left with a not-so-good expression," Flora disclosed.

Since Jane, known for her reluctance to cause concern, struggled to mask her emotions in front of Flora, it meant that the matter was grave.

"Did Jane mention what it was about? Didn't she say anything at all?" Natalie asked, her concern evident.

Flora shook her head, her expression solemn.

Understanding Jane's preference for privacy, Natalie and Flora usually would not probe. As for now, they would give her some time to herself.

Meanwhile, Jane's thoughts were tumultuous. She had braced herself for numerous possible scenarios involving Jovan, her brother: from the miraculous, like Jovan waking up, to the grim possibilities of him being declared brain dead or worse. Yet, what she had not anticipated was the shocking news of his disappearance.

An email from the hospital revealed that Jovan had vanished six months ago.
