Chapter 308 Why are you crying? I didn't scold you.
Oliver's displeasure was clearly visible, and his defensive tone when Natalie mentioned Susan made her even angrier.
"Oliver, do you not have access to the Internet, or have you truly not heard anything? Everyone’s saying that you and Susan are together! So I thought she came here. Why are you looking at me as though I’ve lost my mind? Also, why are you scolding me? What? Can’t I mention Susan?”
"When did I scold you?"
He did not scold her nor curse. He was the one who was being suffocated by anger. Initially, he had been trying to stay calm, but her words completely roused his anger.
"So you thought she came here, but you were still indifferent? Do you not care at all? I’m your husband! Can’t you care more about our marriage? Don’t you feel possessive toward me at all?”
The more he spoke, the more incensed he became; eventually, he even spoke with a growl.
“You don’t love me, so what’s the use of being possessive?” Natalie retorted. Her emotions were out of control, and tears began to form in her eyes.
"How do you know I don’t love you?!" Oliver blurted out.
The room fell silent.
Natalie, tears still in her eyes, looked at Oliver in astonishment.
‘What does he mean by that? Does he love me?’
Oliver pursed his lips. When he saw the doubt in her eyes, he looked away from her and closed his eyes in frustration. However, after doing so, images of Natalie crying appeared in his mind, stabbing his heart.
In the end, he turned back to her and gently wiped away a tear that had escaped from the corner of her eye with his fingertip. His voice was tense and somewhat stiff as he asked, “Why are you crying? I didn’t scold you. My voice was just a little louder.”
He did not mention anything about love.
Natalie looked at him and said, "Oliver..."
Oliver returned her gaze, anticipating her next words.
Natalie hoped he would explain his earlier statement, but she said, “Oliver, you owe me an apology.”
"Hmm?"
Oliver frowned, and he narrowed his eyes, visibly showing his reluctance. Did he hear her correctly? Was she attempting to coax an apology out of him?
"Will you apologize to me?" Natalie asked, softening her tone in an attempt to be more persuasive.
Oliver responded resolutely, "No!"
Despite Natalie expressing her feelings so clearly, Oliver still refused to acknowledge his fault. Her patience was exhausted by his stubbornness, and she said, "Oliver, you wrongly accused me, used work as an excuse to deceive me, and went to pick up Susan instead. Shouldn’t you apologize for this? If you refuse to acknowledge your mistake, I won’t be able to trust you again!"
‘Someone like him who refuses to admit his mistakes really needs to be taught a lesson!’
Natalie, infuriated, turned and left. Just as she opened the study door, she heard hurried footsteps behind her. In the next moment, an imposing force suddenly pinned her against the door.
The study door shut again, and in that moment, Oliver kissed Natalie. The kiss was forceful and somewhat rough.
Natalie frowned and pushed against his chest with all her might.
Feeling Natalie's resistance only fueled the fire in Oliver's heart, making his actions even more intense.
It lasted long enough for Natalie to feel breathless. Her body softened, and she leaned against his body to remain standing.
When he finally released her, he rested his forehead against her and said hoarsely, “Your temper is becoming worse and worse.”
Natalie's cheeks flushed, unsure if the redness was from the kiss or from holding her breath. She glared at him fiercely.
"Let go of me!"
She was unaware of how attractive she looked to him when she glared at him.
Oliver narrowed his eyes and kissed Natalie again, cradling the back of her head.
"Oliver, you’re being unreasonable!" Natalie exclaimed angrily. Apart from the issues she mentioned earlier, she was now also angry that he kissed her without apologizing first.
‘Isn’t he supposed to be aloof?’
She continued to glare at him silently.
Oliver looked at her swollen lips and felt himself reacting. He took a step back as he gently stroked the corner of her eyes and said hoarsely, “Don’t look at me like that…”
"What? I can’t even look at you now?” Natalie retorted coldly.
Leaning in, Oliver's warm breath brushed against Natalie's fair neck as he said, “The way you look at me makes me…”
Not allowing him to finish, Natalie, filled with indignation, pushed him away forcefully.
Caught off guard, Oliver stumbled backward.
Natalie attempted to leave the study, but as she was halfway out, Oliver pulled her back and shut the door behind him with a loud bang.
After the door closed, Oliver murmured something in a low, raspy voice, tinged with a rare emotion.
Natalie froze, then looked up at Oliver with wide eyes. She asked, “What did you say?”
Oliver looked away, murmuring, "It's nothing."
Natalie scoffed. "I forgot to mention, I understand a bit of Italian as well."
Oliver's expression darkened, his mood evidently worsening.
Any employee of the RK Group would have been frightened if they saw him like that, but Natalie, trapped between him and the door, appeared undaunted, even somewhat triumphant.
She looked like a cunning little fox.
Eventually, Oliver sighed in resignation. "Are you satisfied now?"
‘Since you heard it, are you happy?’
Natalie shook her head. "I wish to hear it in English."
With each word, the resistance in Oliver's eyes seemed to deepen.
Admitting one's mistakes is important. Oliver's naturally taciturn demeanor meant that without clear communication, misunderstandings between them would likely persist.
For instance, without Isaac's intervention today, Natalie might still be questioning Oliver's intentions to reconcile.
Oliver pressed his lips together, his gaze filled with refusal. He had assumed Natalie would not understand Italian; had he known, he might have chosen Latin instead!
Natalie regarded Oliver calmly, pondering whether he could overcome his emotional barriers.
