Chapter 823 Oliver, I'm Hungry.
The key to a good time was often the company, not the setting. Objectively, the Rosewood Estate, with its outstanding chef, was a very convenient venue.
"Alright then," Natalie said as she turned to text Jane and Flora. After sending the messages, she sat quietly for a moment before suddenly saying, "Oliver, I'm a little hungry."
Oliver did not look up from what he was doing as he asked, "What would you like to eat? I'll ask the kitchen to prepare it."
"But I want the macaroni and cheese from that place near Liberty Valley University."
Oliver's expression seemed to question her seriousness.
Realizing her request might be a bit much, especially since it was already 9 p.m., and the round trip to the shop would take over an hour, Natalie hesitated. "Never mind, forget I mentioned it... Huh?"
She was interrupted by Oliver getting out of bed and starting to change. She asked, "Where are you going?"
He responded, "I'm going to get my baby some macaroni and cheese."
Natalie could not help but smile. Although common sense urged her to say, 'Forget it, it's too late', her heart would not listen.
Oliver quickly dressed and called Jamie to arrange for someone to pick up the macaroni and cheese from the shop, planning to meet them halfway. This was a masterful display of time management.
"Sir, are you going out so late?" Liam inquired when he saw Natalie descending the stairs.
"Yes, you should get some rest," Oliver replied.
Liam, assuming Oliver had work matters to handle, did not question further. After all, when Natalie was away, Oliver often returned home in the middle of the night, or sometimes not at all.
…
Thirty minutes had passed since Oliver left for the macaroni and cheese. He usually had a strict rule against having food in his bedroom, with exceptions only for water, wine, and coffee. Yet, today, he made an exception and brought the macaroni and cheese in.
"Natalie..."
Oliver paused as he approached. He was about to invite her to come and eat, but he held back his words.
Natalie was fast asleep, nestled soundly under the blanket. The bed seemed too large for her; even at 5 feet 6 inches tall, she looked petite and delicate, like a porcelain doll.
"Natalie?" he called softly twice.
She was sleeping deeply and did not stir. Clearly, she would not be eating the macaroni and cheese anytime soon.
At this moment, Oliver felt a hint of disappointment. He took a few steps back, opened the bedroom door, and handed the macaroni and cheese to a servant waiting outside.
…
The next day, Natalie woke up with her vision blurry for a moment.
Oliver was already up, having completed his workout and shower, and was now buttoning his shirt. In the morning light, he appeared tall and striking, his presence almost radiant.
"Oliver, where's my macaroni and cheese?" she asked groggily.
Oliver was taken aback.
'She's still thinking about it?'
"Look at the time," he gently reminded her.
Natalie glanced at the clock and realized it was indeed the next day.
"Why didn't you wake me up last night?"
Oliver smiled wryly. "I called you twice. Did you respond?"
His tone suggested he had made significant efforts to wake her up.
Natalie sighed, her appetite for the late-night snack had faded.
"Oh well, I'm not really in the mood for it now."
…
After breakfast, Oliver left for his company, seemingly burdened with an array of tasks. He had not been to the office for a month, spending his days either monitoring or, more accurately, accompanying Natalie.
Marjorie, too, had left early to meet her friends.
Liam whispered to Natalie, "Marjorie is probably going to boast about expecting a great-grandchild soon. Her friends' grandchildren can't match up to hers, so they're left to brag about their great-grandchildren. Natalie has been waiting for this day for several years."
Natalie only nodded and smiled in response.
Meanwhile, Emily, aware of Natalie's pregnancy, had discreetly halved her workload. It was unclear whether Samuel or Oliver had mentioned it to her.
"Natalie, Jane, Flora, and Tina are here!" Liam announced with a beaming smile.
It was almost ten o'clock. Liam had a particular fondness for Tina. She was beautiful, intelligent, and polite—a combination of high IQ and EQ that endeared her to people of all ages.
"Liam!" Tina greeted him warmly as she entered, her eyes sparkling with recognition.
Liam could not hide his fondness for Tina, whom he found utterly charming. If the old Natalie had known Tina was coming today, she likely would have stayed home to welcome her!
"Mom!" Tina spotted Natalie and excitedly rushed over, embracing her tightly.
This surprised the servants, including Liam, but Natalie did not mind and happily engaged in conversation with Tina.
Tina was no stranger to the Rosewood Estate, having spent some time there in the past. Soon, Liam and a few other servants took her to a nearby play area.
"Are you feeling better?" Flora asked when they were out of earshot of the child.
"I am," Natalie responded, standing and turning around to demonstrate to Jane and Flora her improved health.
"That's good," Jane remarked, "I've met Jackson a couple of times before. He seems a bit scheming, but I never realized how calculating he could be!"
Natalie remained silent. Jackson might have been Oliver's accomplice, possibly with someone else pulling the strings from behind.
The servants brought out an array of snacks and drinks from the kitchen.
Jane and Flora, being familiar guests, helped themselves.
"By the way, I heard that the person exiled from the Hastings family has returned," Jane mentioned, always well-informed. It was clear she was referring to Helen.
Natalie nodded in acknowledgment but chose not to delve into the details, wishing to spare Jane and Flora any unnecessary concern.
"You agreed?" Jane was surprised by Natalie's nonchalant reaction, but sensing that Natalie had something difficult to express, she exchanged a knowing look with Flora and chose not to probe further. After all, there was still the matter of Susan, who was in prison.
"I called you here today to tell you something important," Natalie announced, "I'm pregnant."
