Chapter 1119 Childish
The servant knocked on the door. "Ms. Watkins, Ms. Watson is here."
Jane snapped out of her daze. "Come in."
The door creaked open. Natalie stepped in, wearing a long dress that showed off her curves. It wasn't tight, but it had its own charm.
Jane's mind flashed back to when Natalie's belly was swollen. Now, it was flat again, and she looked like the top international supermodel she was.
"Jane..." Natalie hesitated, concern in her eyes.
Jane had never looked so worn out.
Jane reached out. "Natalie, I need a hug."
A hug can give someone a lot of courage. It's one of the strongest ways to show you care.
"What happened to you? Why do you look so exhausted?" Natalie asked, immediately sensing something was wrong.
Jane couldn't hide it anymore.
She bit her lip and said, "I had a miscarriage."
Natalie was stunned.
"Miscarriage?" She could hardly believe it.
"Yeah. I'm still recovering," Jane replied.
"Anthony's?" Natalie asked.
Jane nodded. "But it's okay. I never wanted that child. He wasn't meant to be born."
She thought he shouldn't come into a broken family, without a pure and beautiful environment to grow up in.
"Bastard!" Natalie rarely cursed, but Anthony deserved it.
Natalie looked like she wanted to go after Anthony.
Jane held her hand, slightly amused. "I thought you'd call me his mistress."
"What are you talking about?" Natalie glared. "Just because you're a patient now doesn't mean you can say whatever and make me mad."
As if Jane would be a mistress to someone like Anthony? Ridiculous!
"That's what people are saying," Jane said, referring to the rumors.
"Those people are blind. Why listen to them?" Natalie was firmly on Jane's side. "They used to say I was the homewrecker between Oliver and Susan."
"So what's going on? Flora's abroad and called me, worried. If I hadn't stopped her, she'd be on a plane back right now." Natalie got back to the point.
Jane briefly recounted the past year's events.
After listening, Natalie cursed Anthony in her mind countless times.
Whether Anthony loved Jane or not, and whether his actions were out of love, Jane got hurt because of him. Anthony deserved all the curses!
"I'm actually fine. I just had a nightmare last night and wasn't feeling right, so I called you," Jane said. "I wanted to wait until I was better to tell you. I didn't want you to worry."
"Jane, if you wait until you're better to tell me, Flora and I will cut ties with you for a month!" Natalie was still a bit angry. "Can you stop trying to handle everything alone? What do you take Flora and me for?"
"Okay, I won't handle things on my own next time. It's exhausting." Jane's sickly face, paired with that faint smile, made her look so pitiful. "I have you guys now, and Jovan is back. Things will get better."
Natalie didn't press for details on how Jovan managed to turn things around.
Jane had just had a miscarriage, multiple soft tissue injuries, and was still in a wheelchair.
What worried her most was that the online comments about her would affect Natalie and Flora. Now that Natalie had made her stance clear, her worries eased.
"Where's Nathan? Why didn't you bring him? I haven't seen him yet." Jane regretted not seeing Nathan.
Seeing Jane's condition had improved, Natalie pretended to complain. "Oh, Ms. Watkins still remembers Nathan? He's ten months old, and you haven't seen him yet."
"Natalie." Jane knew she was in the wrong.
Natalie's phone kept ringing. As she opened it, she said, "I'll bring him to see you when you're feeling better."
"Busy?" Jane saw Natalie typing a reply.
"Not busy." Natalie looked helplessly at her phone.
Jane quickly guessed and teased with a smile. "Is it Oliver?"
"Yes." Natalie locked her phone. "Don't pay him any mind. He's got nothing better to do."
Oliver was asking when Natalie would be back, essentially urging her to hurry up.
Not getting a satisfactory answer, Oliver called shortly after.
"Natalie, Nathan is crying and looking for you," Oliver said as soon as he spoke.
Natalie listened carefully but didn't hear any sound from Nathan. "You're lying, right? Mr. Windsor, you're a father now. How can you lie all the time?"
If Nathan were really crying, Oliver would definitely put the receiver to Nathan's mouth, letting Natalie hear his cries, with a hint of schadenfreude in his voice.
After hearing Oliver say a few more words, Natalie said helplessly, "Oliver, are you being childish? Are you not going to have lunch if I don't come back?"
Natalie hung up the phone and met Jane's teasing smile, which also carried a bit of envy.
Seeing Natalie marry for love and live a happy life, who wouldn't be envious?
"Is Oliver urging you to go back?" Jane took a sip of chicken soup, frowning in dissatisfaction.
She wanted to secretly pour it out, but the soup was specially made by Billy, and Jovan had specifically instructed Natalie to make sure she finished it.
"Ignore him." Natalie slightly raised her chin and huffed.
"You can ignore Oliver, but what about Nathan?" Jane asked, "Wouldn't Nathan be crying to see you?"
At first, Jane really thought Nathan was crying and almost told Natalie to hurry back.
"Nathan doesn't cry much." Natalie couldn't help but smile when talking about Nathan. "He's got Oliver's temperament. Even at a young age, he always has a stern face. Lucas says if he keeps it up, he might not find a girlfriend."
Jane jokingly said, "Don't worry, if Lucas can find a wife, Nathan will definitely find someone too."
"Even though Lucas is my brother, I have to admit you're right," Natalie agreed.
Natalie thought of the things Lucas had said and done to Lilian and still couldn't understand how such a sweet girl like Lilian could fall for Lucas.
