Chapter 950 Reaching Out

After Anthony left, Jane remained curled up on the couch, contemplating what might be going through his mind. As lunchtime neared, there was another knock on the door. A maid entered with a cart and said, "Ms. Watkins, here's your lunch," pointing to the lower shelf of the cart, "And your clothes.”

"I didn't order any food, nor did I buy any clothes," Jane said, frowning in confusion.

"Really?" The maid checked her work phone. "This is indeed the task assigned to me by my superior."

Jane lifted the cover off the plate, her eyes flickering slightly.

It was Billy's cuisine.

Billy had a unique method of preparing grilled fish, always using olive oil, adding a touch of lemon, and placing herbs in the center.

"Ms. Watkins, this meal..."

"Leave it."

Billy's cooking wasn't something that was available all the time.

Billy was a chef that Jovan had recruited from a prestigious private restaurant at a high cost. Jane had always assumed that Billy would return to the restaurant once he left the Watkins family. She never anticipated that he would end up working for Anthony.

While eating, Jane was still puzzled. Anthony wasn't someone who paid much attention to food. When Jane was younger, she often complained that Anthony lived too simply.

For instance, Anthony didn't mind if the chicken used in the soup was an old hen or if the chicken used in the braised dish was a young rooster, or whether the pickles were freshly made or from a while back. It was surprising for someone like Anthony to hire a refined chef like Billy as his personal chef.

After the meal, Jane opened the cardboard box on the lower shelf of the cart. Inside, she found a misty blue dress, a leather jacket, and a pair of flat shoes, all in her size.

Anthony may have been rough around the edges, but his fashion sense was always impeccable. However, inside the box, there was a piece of paper with the large, glaring words 'Change Clothes' written on it. D

id Anthony expect her to simply change? Debra's outfit was perfectly fine, and Jane believed it suited her well.

Jane chose not to touch the clothes in the box. Instead, she returned to bed, lay on her side, and took a nap.

After departing from the hotel, Anthony rendezvoused with Clint.

"Any results?" Anthony asked as he walked out.

Clint reported one thing after another.

“We still haven't identified the person who ordered the killing in Paykston, but it's almost certain that the killer was misguided into targeting Ms. Watkins and accidentally killed the wrong individual. I have organized compensation for the victim's family and sent representatives to offer condolences. Ms. Watkins' apartment will be renovated until the end of next month." Anthony remarked, "A place where a death occurred can't be resided in. She'll be frightened.”

"But that's Ms. Watkins' apartment," Clint said, stunned. " Hiding the break-in and murder from Ms. Watkins could work, but hiding the fact that we're getting her a new apartment is unrealistic."

Anthony gave Clint a look, seemingly saying, "What useless thoughts are you thinking?" and said, "Have her neighbor buy her apartment at a high price. I'll cover the cost."

The reason was straightforward: there were many interested buyers looking to acquire two neighboring apartments. In such a competitive market, offering a high price was not unusual. Despite Jane's current financial stability, additional cash was always welcomed. Clint concurred, accustomed to Anthony's risky investments that often resulted in losses. For instance, he had been paying a six-figure salary to their private chef, Billy, for three years, yet Billy only cooked once a week.

“Mr. Clark, I have some information regarding Ms. Dewar," Clint stated. "Based on the timing of Ms. Dewar's pregnancy, she conceived around the time you returned to Southvale. She went out with friends, got intoxicated, and was taken to a hotel. According to her account, she believed the individual she was with that night was you. She even insisted that she saw you clearly. I discovered that Hubert was also present at the same hotel where Ms. Dewar stayed that night.”

"Hubert?" Anthony almost forgot about him, "When did he come back?"

Clint thought that if Hubert heard this, he'd be furious. Hubert had been back for months, and Anthony was still asking when he returned, clearly unaware of his presence.
Hubert was the son of the second son in the Clark family and shared a resemblance of about five or six points with Anthony, particularly around the eyes.

If the man Aurora saw was Hubert, it was feasible for a drunk Aurora to confuse him with Anthony. However, Anthony and Hubert had distinctly different personalities. Anthony was composed, introverted, and aloof, whereas Hubert was restless, conceited, and eager for immediate success.

This contrast was mainly shaped by their upbringing under the second son of the Clark family.

When Anthony's father met a tragic end, the second son of the Clark family quickly distanced his family from Anthony and his mother Ann.

Later, when Anthony restored the Clark family's fortunes, the second son felt that Anthony had taken what was rightfully his and believed he deserved the family's current position. Throughout the years Anthony spent with the Watkins family, the entire Clark family followed the second son's lead.

How did things change so suddenly? The second son of the Clark family couldn't comprehend it, no matter how hard he tried.

But Anthony never paid much attention to the second son and his family, considering them all to be ambitious but lacking the necessary intellect with just a bit of cunning.

Until now, when Hubert came into their sights.

"And what else?" Anthony continued to ask.

“Ms. Dewar had a meeting with the second son of the Clark family and his family five days ago. Later, a servant overheard Ms. Dewar mentioning stomach discomfort." Anthony had Clint investigate who Aurora had met before experiencing stomach pains.

Aurora was recovering at the Clark family home, receiving personal care from Ann, which made it unlikely for her health to deteriorate. The only significant occurrence was the visit from the Clark family's second son and his family five days ago.

"Keep an eye on them," Anthony said. He could handle relatives kicking him when he was down, but he couldn't tolerate anyone encroaching on his inner circle.

Not only had they reached in, they seemed to be trying to scheme against Anthony.

“Any updates from Everville?" Anthony managed each problem systematically.

"We still haven't located Mr. Watkins," Clint replied. "However, it seems he's no longer in Everville. He seems to be close to the Richardson family in Veridia."

"The Richardson family?”
"Yes."

The Richardson family, the top family in Veridia.

At the hospital.

Ann received an invitation from a well-connected socialite to attend her grandson's birthday party. Due to their good relationship, she couldn't refuse the invitation. Ann then explained the situation to Aurora and assured her that she would return quickly to be with her.

“Auntie, don't worry. There are plenty of doctors, nurses, and servants here to take care of me. You don't need to worry. You can stay a bit longer and enjoy yourself," Aurora said with a smile. Ann was pleased to hear this and held Aurora's hand, saying, "Aurora, what are you talking about? You're my daughter-in-law and the mother of my future grandchild. With your mother not around, I need to spend more time with you and take care of you.”
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
