Chapter 1128 Resolutely Not Looking Back
The project manager nervously led Jane and Carol through the building. As they walked, Carol explained to Jane that the project was being handed over to the team, and it was just a coincidence they picked an artist from Delilah's agency.
Jane got it. It made sense that the team wouldn't know about her history with Anthony and Delilah—they weren't in the inner circle.
Until today, Jane hadn't realized that some considered her and Delilah as rivals.
"Ms. Watkins?" The project manager suddenly noticed Jane squatting down.
Jane picked up a cufflink from the ground and calmly asked, "Did someone come by just now?"
The project manager, who had been inside the whole time, didn't know and asked the staff outside.
The staff member shivered, almost reflexively nodded, then quickly said, "No!"
Jane's eyebrow twitched slightly, and she stared at the staff member for a few seconds. The staff member lowered his head, wishing he could disappear.
Jane finally just pursed her lips, clenched the cufflink in her hand, and left.
"What happened?" Carol asked. "If it's inconvenient to say, you don't have to."
Jane opened her palm, revealing a sapphire cufflink. It was a gift she had given to Anthony in the past.
That "past" referred to when the Watkins family was still in its prime.
"A cufflink?" Carol quickly noticed. "This is a man's cufflink."
Jane nodded. "Yeah, I gave it to Anthony a long time ago."
If it weren't for today, Jane would have forgotten that she had given Anthony such a cufflink, which had cost her an entire month's allowance.
Jane looked down at it for a while, then suddenly felt something was off and looked up at Carol. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Say what? Pry into your business with Anthony?" Carol asked bluntly.
Jane blinked, and they both laughed. "No, I'm just surprised. Even Jovan wants to pry into my business, but Ms. Cunningham is so open-minded."
Carol smiled. She indeed had little interest in prying. If others talked, she would listen; if they didn't, she wouldn't ask.
In the studio, a staff member saw the CEO leading Anthony back.
Anthony's face was grim, his brows furrowed, looking very unhappy.
Before the staff could organize their words to ask, Anthony spoke, "Did you see a blue cufflink?"
"A cufflink? No." the staff shook their heads.
Anthony, unwilling to give up, looked around with his head down.
Nothing. Could it really be lost?
That was the first gift Jane had given to Anthony.
"Mr. Clark, I'll notify everyone. If anyone finds it, they'll bring it to you immediately. Is that okay?" the CEO quickly said.
"Alright," Anthony answered.
Jane and Carol were having dinner at a restaurant.
Carol answered her phone abruptly and, during the call, shot a glance at Jane.
"What's wrong?" Jane asked after Carol hung up.
Just from Carol's glance, Jane knew the call was related to her.
"The studio reported that the big boss lost a cufflink, and whoever finds it will receive a generous reward."
As for who the big boss was, they both knew.
Jane rubbed the sapphire cufflink with her fingers and chuckled softly. "Unfortunately, I am not short of money now. Besides, it was mine to begin with."
Jane had no intention of returning the cufflink to Anthony.
"Don't get back together with an ex, I get it," Carol nodded in agreement. "I also heard the head of the Foster family is interested in you..."
"Richard?" Jane asked.
"Yeah." Carol took a sip of wine. "I didn't mean to pry, but I overheard it during a business meeting. Someone wanted to introduce their daughter to Richard, but he said he already had someone in mind."
Not many people knew about Richard and Jane. However, there are no secrets in the world. As a core member of the Cunningham family, Carol naturally had her sources.
"Richard is actually quite nice, just a bit older," Carol said objectively. "But not too old, just a year or two older than Anthony, right?"
Jane caught the teasing tone and replied, "Ms. Cunningham, you know not to get back together with an ex, so you should also know not to choose someone close by, right?"
Carol thought for a moment and replied, "That's true!"
Carol looked Jane up and down. "You're beautiful, capable, and interesting; the men who like you could line up from Paykston to abroad. If I were you, I wouldn't rush to decide either."
"The men pursuing Ms. Cunningham could line up from the Western Hemisphere to the Eastern Hemisphere," Jane said truthfully. Carol's reputation in the socialite circle might not be as high as Jane's or Delilah's, but she was very famous in the business world.
"Please!" Carol waved her hand. "I'm only interested in making money, not men!"
"I'm not interested in men right now either; I have too much trouble and heartache."
Jane officially returned to work, and the invitations and gatherings increased. Many still reached Jane after her assistant filtered them.
For events like Calvin Green's birthday party, Jane, the second son of the Green family, had to attend.
Firstly, the Green family had a good relationship with the Watkins family, and secondly, Calvin and Jane were good friends.
The venue was set at the bar area of a high-end club in Paykston.
As soon as Jane entered, the heavy drumbeats gave her a headache.
"Jane's here!"
"Jane, over here!"
A group of people greeted Jane from afar.
Jane walked over, and the people around Calvin quickly made room for her.
Jane didn't stand at the ceremony with them.
As soon as she sat down, Calvin hooked his arm around her neck. "Jane, what's going on with you? You're getting harder to call out. I had to call you three times."
"Mr. Green, you're the first to get Ms. Watkins out to play. Isn't that enough face?" someone teased.
Calvin was a well-known rich second-generation in Paykston. He was good-looking and capable. Although he seemed idle, he had invested in many companies, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars in dividends each month. He had known Jane since childhood, and before Jane met Anthony, many people joked about her and Calvin.
Jane pushed Calvin's hand away. "Calvin, the noise here is giving me a headache."
"You used to like it," Calvin said.
"I have no energy to play now," Jane said irritably.
Calvin had a wide network in Paykston and was generous. Many people came to his birthday party, some just to take advantage of the occasion. Calvin didn't mind. His close friends were all in this circle.
