Chapter 295 Your Husband is Watching You
“Well then, I won’t disturb you any longer. I have some things to attend to, so I’ll take my leave first. Goodbye,” Natalie said.
"Bye."
The polite smile on Susan's face gradually disappeared after Natalie left, and there was a hint of jealousy and curiosity in her gaze.
‘Is it possible that she’s never heard of me? No, even if no one around Oliver mentions me, she must have heard of me, considering her involvement in the industry. However, if she’s heard of me, how can she be so calm? It’s as though I’m insignificant…’
In Susan’s opinion, Natalie was either pretending to be calm or she was secure about her importance in Oliver’s heart.
‘No, she must be pretending to be calm. So what if Oliver cares about her? He also cares about me! I’m clearly the most important person in his heart! My decade-long love and support aren’t something that can be replaced by a woman overnight!’
Susan came here with the intention of meeting Natalie. Now that her goal had been achieved, she bade farewell to the vice dean politely and left in her car. She did not come with Oliver today; instead, she had secretly come here after discovering that Oliver came here to look for Natalie. Since she had decided to give up on Arthur, she would cherish Oliver and she would not yield to another woman.
…
Natalie, on the other hand, was indeed not as calm as she appeared to be.
Once she was a distance away, she dialed Lilian's number.
As soon as the call connected, Lilian said with a hint of worry, "Natalie, I heard you had a fight with my cousin?"
Natalie thought she might have misheard. After all, Lilian did not hide her disapproval of Natalie.
Natalie regained her composure and said, “What there’s to fight about now that a woman, who matches Oliver’s background and upbringing, appeared? I should feel happy instead.”
Then, she added, “I have a question. Lilian, you know Susan, right?”
Lilian hesitated, not sure if she had mentioned Susan to Natalie before. Finally, she replied, "Yes, we’ve known each other for many years."
"Does Susan know me?" Natalie held her breath, waiting for Lilian's answer. She suspected that Susan's actions and words earlier were intentional! Not only that, but she suspected that Susan intended to make her jealous and dissatisfied with Oliver and also to make her presence known.
"Of course, she knows you. She’s known my cousin for so many years; she naturally knows who Oliver married,” Lilian replied, unwittingly exposing Susan. Then, she remembered the rumors online and asked, “Natalie, are you upset because Oliver picked Susan up at the airport?”
"No," Natalie denied.
Lilian sighed and said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Natalie, I know you must be upset. If my boyfriend did something like that, I would be upset too… unless he brought me along.”
Natalie asked, amused, “Do you have a boyfriend?”
After all, Lilian was still rather young.
Lilian snorted. “Why do you and Lucas look down on me just because I don’t have a boyfriend? Let me tell you, I almost got engaged, but I didn’t like him, so I ran away.”
Natalie, originally preoccupied with thoughts of Oliver, was startled by Lilian's revelation. "Your family arranged an engagement for you, and so you ran to Paykston to avoid it?"
"How did you know?" Lilian stuttered nervously, wondering why Natalie was as perceptive as Lucas and capable of piecing the puzzles together?
Natalie rubbed her temples, thinking that Lilian was rather unpredictable.
After ending the call with Lilian, Natalie also confirmed that Susan had been deliberate with her words and actions. Clearly, Susan wanted to make her upset and uncomfortable while she showed off her deep relationship with Oliver.
If she had not maintained her composure, she might have fallen into Susan’s trap. However, both Oliver and Susan spoke about his investment in the variety show. It seemed like there might be something there.
Previously, she had entertained the thought that Oliver came to see her under the pretext of work. After all, considering how awkward he was, it was not surprising if he did something like that. However, it seemed like it was just wishful thinking on her part.
…
When Natalie returned, she found that the members of the other teams had already returned.
Sharon and Lily both chose classes related to modeling. Coincidentally, they were in the same class.
Lily, having graduated years ago, had forgotten much. As such, Sharon succeeded in obtaining the props.
Moreover, there was a team member who performed poorly in another class and failed to answer the professor's questions correctly.
Ultimately, each of the two teams secured four props while Natalie's team, who had rested for over an hour, obtained six props.
The director could not help but wonder why there was no sense of competition at all.
Takeouts were ordered for lunch, and they were distributed by the staff members.
When offered to Oliver, he declined with a wave of his hand.
The director had heard that Oliver was very picky with his food, so he suggested tentatively, “Mr. Windsor, why don’t we go somewhere else for lunch?”
Considering Oliver's five-million-dollar investment and his lack of demands, it seemed only appropriate to offer him a meal.
Oliver remained silent, his gaze fixed on Natalie who was enjoying her lunch with Jane and Jacob.
Earlier when Natalie returned to her seat, she did not spare Oliver a glance at all.
Olive felt that his patience was getting better. He had not pulled her aside to ask what was going on after all.
"Your husband is looking at you," Jacob remarked uneasily when he sensed Oliver’s chilling gaze.
“Why do you care? He’s not looking at you. Mind your own business,” Jane said sharply.
“Jane, I feel like he really doesn’t like me,” Jacob confided in a low voice, “Did you see how terrifying his gaze was when he looked at me?”
Upon hearing this, Natalie felt a twinge of guilt and glanced at Jacob, debating whether to clarify the misunderstanding Oliver might have about their relationship.
Jane patted Jacob's shoulder and lied with a straight face, "It's just your imagination! He must be jealous because you’re handsome. It’s nothing."
"You have a point.” Jacob nodded in agreement.
‘How can he be so gullible when he’s 24 years old?’
At the same time, Jamie saw Oliver’s grim expression, and he turned to look at Natalie, who was chatting happily with Jane and Jacob. After a moment of hesitation, he asked Oliver, "Should I call Natalie over?”
“Why would you do that?” Oliver replied with a sneer.
