Chapter 161 Overbearing and Jealous
The items that had been returned were destroyed by Oliver in front of Charles. In the end, only shattered antique pieces and torn blueprints of weapons were the only things that were left.
Since Oliver had already given the gift, it was irrelevant if Roger accepted it or not.
The two men exchanged glances and silently made their way to the garden at the end of the corridor.
With no one around, only the rustling of autumn leaves could be heard as the wind whispered through the trees.
Roger leaned against the wall, one knee bent; his relaxed posture reminiscent of a big cat retracting its claws. However, his aura was intimidating like a formidable beast. He said nonchalantly, “By the way, Mr. Windsor, I tried Natalie's cooking yesterday. It was quite delicious. That can be considered a thank-you gift.”
Roger naturally understood the meaning of Oliver's ‘gifts’. They were designed to keep him away from Natalie, and he saw them as a provocation.
Oliver's hostility surged, and he narrowed his eyes at Roger as he clenched his hands into fists. He said threateningly, “D, you better not have any improper thoughts about my wife! Otherwise, I won’t let you go!”
Roger met Oliver’s gaze and said, “Since you know I’m D, you should also know my capabilities. In a real confrontation between us, the outcome is uncertain, Mr. Windsor."
With that statement, the already tense atmosphere escalated. The hostility and animosity between the duo were palpable.
Whether as Roger or as D, Roger was evenly matched with Oliver.
"But today, I’m not here to declare war," Roger said with his customary smile, a smile that lacked warmth and sent chills through anyone who beheld it, except for Natalie.
Oliver raised an eyebrow and chuckled mockingly. "I thought you came to steal my wife."
The word ‘wife’ pierced Roger's heart.
"If Hailey were interested in you, do you think Natalie would’ve married you?” Roger asked.
Oliver was not surprised that Roger knew about this matter. He said, “Regardless, she’s my lawfully wedded wife…”
Suddenly, Roger felt foolish for getting entangled in these matters with Oliver. It was akin to plunging a dagger into his own heart. He returned to the main topic, saying, “Mr. Windsor, rest assured, even if the whole world turns against Natalie, I’ll protect her. You don’t need to worry about me hurting her. As for the purpose of my visit today…”
After a beat, Robert continued, “I’m waiting for you to make a mistake. When that day comes, as long as Natalie speaks up, I won’t hesitate to take her away at any cost. I warn you, don’t hurt her in any way."
In fact, Robert had sent a message to Oliver earlier to prevent Oliver’s ridiculous jealousy and possessiveness from sabotaging Natalie’s dreams.
“You like Natalie," Oliver stated in a matter-of-fact tone. Otherwise, Roger would not have rambled on so much.
"Yes," Roger replied truthfully, "I used to think Natalie was the only light in my life. However, later on, I realized the darkness was worse after the light was gone. Even then, I couldn’t forget about the light.”
Today, Roger spoke more words than he had in years. It seemed as though he was trying to convince himself rather than warn or threaten Oliver. It seemed like he was convincing himself to not disturb Natalie's choice. He was worried that his little princess would be hurt by Oliver, and he was worried she would be caught in a dilemma.
…
Natalie scoured the area, looking for Oliver anxiously, but he remained elusive, nowhere in sight.
Just when she had given up and returned to the dressing room to change, an unseen force seized her waist, pulling her to the side without any warning.
In that very instant, she could only hear the sound of a man’s breathing and the warmth of his breath on her neck.
"Oliver?" Natalie called out tremblingly. However, the familiar fragrance had already confirmed his identity.
‘Why is Oliver in the dressing room? Why did he pull me in like this?’
The dressing room was tiny; there was hardly enough for two people to stand comfortably.
Oliver's intention became evident as he pinned her against the hall and hugged her.
His commanding aura descended on her, causing her to instinctively shut her eyes.
Moments stretched on in silence, broken only by the subtle rustle of fabric.
Natalie, her heart pounding, cautiously opened one eye. To her surprise, Oliver's once icy and menacing expression had softened slightly. It was not tender, but a rather strange mix of… teasing. At this time, she also realized that her instinctive reaction of closing her eyes, betrayed her expectations of Oliver kissing her. Her cheeks flushed red immediately as she wondered when she had grown so bold. It was clear that he saw through her thoughts, hence the look in his eyes.
"I wasn't thinking anything of the sort; don't misunderstand!" Natalie hurriedly protested. However, she instantly regretted her words since her explanation only further betrayed her thoughts!
"Do you think you can trick me with this flimsy excuse?" Oliver said hoarsely, “It’d better for you to take the initiative to kiss me…”
"Who's trying to trick you..." Natalie muttered, but she fell silent again when she realized the position they were in. She lowered her head, and her thoughts drifted back to the judging session. She recalled his bandaged hand.
“Your hand…”
As soon as Natalie spoke, Oliver withdrew his injured hand into his pocket, hiding it from her view.
When she lifted her head, she felt the weight of his gaze. This man was a natural conqueror, forged by life's trials, and he now stood as the present and future ruler.
"Natalie."
"Yes?"
Oliver cupped Natalie's cheek and stared at her. From the moment he laid eyes on his substitute wife, he knew that she possessed a captivating beauty that could enchant anyone.
“You’re not allowed to see Roger anymore.”
Oliver’s commanding tone immediately diluted the concern and worry in Natalie’s heart.
