Chapter 891 A Troublesome Child is Born

Jane was disgusted by the 'opportunity', and she knew that Ann was deliberately humiliating her. However, she gritted her teeth and asked, "Alright, when?"

"I won't make it difficult for you. Today is too rushed. At the latest, the day after tomorrow, you need to come to the Smith family residence," Ann said. Then, she helped Aurora and added, "Aurora, let's go."

"What did you say to Ms. Watkins?" Aurora asked in confusion.

"You mentioned before that you were bored at home. Having someone like Jane to accompany you would make you happier. So, I arranged for Jane to be with you. You're pregnant now, which is challenging. I naturally want to help you as much as I can," Ann said gently to Aurora.

Her voice was not loud, but Jane heard it clearly.

Jane's gaze fell on Aurora, who was unaware that she had overheard, and was currently smiling at Ann. She understood some lip reading, a skill she had learned from Anthony when she was bored in high school. She saw Aurora say to Ann, ''It's quite troublesome. I don't think this is a good idea.''

Ann responded, "What's wrong with that? It's what the Smith family owes us! I want her to come and personally take care of you, to make it clear who is worthy of being the future Mrs. Smith, and it's not her!"

"Miss, can I help you?"

After a while, Jane's thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the waiter. She realized she had been standing in the corridor for some time, blocking the way, and several guests were looking at her strangely.

"No, thank you," Jane replied with a slight smile.

"Then, if you need anything, just let me. You don't look well."

"It's nothing. I just encountered some disgusting people and events."

Jane was now certain that Aurora was feigning innocence.

Back at the apartment, Jane began packing her bags, took a leave of absence from the studio, and felt relieved that she had already graduated. Otherwise, she would have had to figure out how to take a leave of absence from school. This holiday was for four months, and the school had to arrange for her to take a leave of absence directly.

This was the style of the Smith family, asking her to take care of the future Mrs. Smith without considering that she still had a job.

One sentence, one threat, coerced Jane into compliance.

To disgust her, the Smith family had indeed invested a great deal of effort and energy!

Due to the shock during the day, Nathan refused to sleep at night.

It was not that Nathan was not sleepy; he yawned continuously, tears brimming in his eyes, yet he still clung to Natalie. Once he could not see her, he would start throwing a tantrum.

When Nathan threw a tantrum, it involved more than just crying. He would shout and kick his legs or wave his hands. Usually well-behaved, his tantrums were quite noticeable.

The servants could not calm Nathan down, and Natalie had no choice but to take him to the master bedroom to sleep with her.

Oliver had someone bring over Nathan’s usual crib, but once Nathan was in it and realized he could not see Natalie, he began to throw a tantrum again.

"How about putting him between us?" Natalie suggested to Oliver, "Our bed is big enough."

Oliver gave Natalie an unhappy look. "Is this really about the size of the bed?"

The bed was so large it could easily accommodate five adults; adding Nathan was completely negligible!

"He’s in the way," Oliver pointed out.

Natalie had become slower to react to issues involving Nathan, something Oliver had gotten used to. Since she was slow to react, he felt compelled to speak up.

Natalie remembered that every night before they slept, even if Oliver did not make love to her, he would kiss her or caress her before pulling her into his arms. With Nathan now in the middle, it seemed to disrupt their routine.

Natalie glanced at Oliver, then at Nathan cradled in her arms, and decisively placed Nathan on the bed, beside herself.

"Oliver, don't forget, you were the one who wanted a child," she reminded him.

Oliver reflected again on his initial foolish desire for a child. Now he had no choice but to put up with the troublesome child.

Nathan lay sprawled in the center of the bed, thoroughly enjoying the comfort of a space imbued with the scents of both Oliver and Natalie. His chubby legs kicked in the air, one small hand joyously thumping the silk cover, while the other cautiously clutched Natalie’s nightgown.

Oliver thought to himself, 'Are you showing off?'

Five minutes later, Oliver turned off the light and returned to bed.

Instead of the familiar feel of Natalie beside him, when he reached out, he did not touch Natalie's gentle body, but instead, Nathan. Nathan would occasionally push him or kick him.

The bedside lamp was not turned off, casting a soft light throughout the room.

Natalie lay on her side, gently patting Nathan while coaxing him, "Nathan, it's time to sleep. Other kids are already asleep. Sleep now, and you can play tomorrow, okay?"

Nathan thought, 'I don't want to sleep. It's none of my business if other kids are already sleeping. I want to play now.'

His eyes were wide and bright, full of excitement, kicking his legs back and forth.

"Nathan, if you don't sleep, I'll throw you out," Oliver muttered, already unhappy, and seeing Natalie coaxing Nathan only intensified his irritation.

Nathan turned his head to look at his dad. As if understanding what was said, he called out and twisted his chubby body, turning to bury his head in Natalie's arms. He left only the cold back of his head and little buttocks for Oliver, who had threatened to throw him out.

Oliver leaned over, holding the back of Natalie's head with one hand, and bit her small mouth a few times as if to vent.

As soon as they separated, Natalie lowered her head and met Nathan’s curious big eyes, as if he was asking, 'Father, Mother, what are you doing?'

Natalie slapped Oliver lightly, glared at him, and gestured for him to calm down.

Oliver's expression darkened, knowing he could not really throw Nathan out of the room. Annoyed, he pinched Nathan's cheeks several times and said, "You're only allowed to sleep here tonight."

Nathan not only looked like Oliver but also had a similar temperament.

Oliver disliked physical contact with others, except for Natalie, and Nathan was the same.

Nathan did not like others pinching his cheeks or hands, except for Natalie. Oliver was not an exception.

That night, Nathan slept soundly in Natalie's arms.

On the contrary, Natalie, who held Nathan in her arms, did not sleep very soundly. She woke up occasionally to check on Nathan. Nonetheless, the overall quality of sleep was good.

Only Oliver, who went to bed with a dark expression, woke up the next day with an even darker expression on his face.
