Chapter 987 Flattery
Jane was the first to enter the master bedroom, fearing that Anthony might compete with her for it. She lay down on the bed and let out a comfortable sigh of relief. Today was the most relaxing day since she had come to live with the Clark family. She felt a sense of long- lost freedom from being under someone else's roof.
As Jane lay there, she suddenly sprang up and picked up the bed sheet and the corner of the quilt to inspect them. She did not see the name or logo of the hotel. The bed sheet was made of a soft cotton-linen blend, a material Jane had always preferred for her bedding. Compared to smooth silk or pure cotton, Jane favored the textured feel of cotton-linen. However, cotton linen was not a material hotels typically chose for their bedding because it was too niche in its appeal. Jane had a bold guess that this bed sheet was specifically requested by Anthony.
If the master bedroom had cotton sheets, what about the guest bedroom? Jane quietly opened the door and heard the sound of water coming from the bathroom. Anthony was taking a shower. Jane waited a few seconds.
Hearing that the water sound did not stop, she quickly slipped out, opened the door to the guest room, and swiftly touched the bed sheet on the queen-size bed, which was cotton. The lower right corner of the quilt even had the hotel's name and logo embroidered in gold. This was the kind of bedding a normal hotel would have.
'So, the master bedroom's bedding was changed by Anthony? And Anthony knew from the start that I would want the master bedroom, or he had planned to let me have it from the beginning,' Jane thought.
"What are you doing?" Anthony's voice suddenly came from behind, startling Jane. Jane said, "You, you..."
Anthony raised an eyebrow with interest. Jane replied, "I'm just looking around!" She straightened her neck, putting on a serious look as if she were inspecting the place.
"Do you like this room?" Anthony said generously, "You can have it."
"No! I don't want it! I'm leaving!" Jane quickly exited the room, saying, "And don't come into my room at night without permission!"
Anthony leaned against the wall, with only a towel wrapped around his waist. He watched Jane leave in a hurry, feeling a mix of emotions.
He thought, 'Jane usually loves looking at handsome men with good physiques, so why didn't she take an extra glance at me?'
Anthony looked at his standard eight-pack abs and V-line. 'Is my body not good enough, or am I not good-looking enough?' he thought.
The next day, as Jane left the Clark family, she felt relaxed and woke up at ten o'clock.
She stepped out of the bedroom and was momentarily stunned. Anthony had already changed into a suit, his hair styled with wax, revealing a full forehead that made him look both handsome and cold. He looked just like his custom-made car, the Knight XV.
"Jane, why are you daydreaming?" Anthony teased Jane with a mischievous smile.
Jane snapped out of it. "You look quite handsome in the morning."
Anthony was amused by Jane's words. He knocked on the table. "Come and have breakfast."
"It's almost noon," Jane said as she found a random seat at the dining table.
The hotel's breakfast was a traditional English breakfast, which Jane didn't particularly like but didn't dislike either.
"Someone from the styling room will come later," Anthony said when Jane had almost finished eating.
Jane nodded. She was very familiar with this routine of getting styled before a banquet, as it used to be a part of her daily life.
"What about the dress?" she asked.
"It will be delivered together."
Jane thought it was just an ordinary team of stylists, but when they arrived, she realized it was a top-notch team currently in high demand.
Hiring them required not only a fortune but also influence. The team members were old acquaintances of Jane's because the lead stylist, Gabriel Long, had made a name for himself thanks to Jane's appearance at a banquet, which had turned him who was unrecognized into a top stylist in the eyes of many socialites. As a result, Gabriel always said that Jane was his benefactor.
However, not long after Gabriel became famous, the accident befell the Watkins family, and he never had the chance to collaborate with Jane again. They hadn't even seen each other since then. This time, it was a surprise for Gabriel to see Jane, and he couldn't stop showering her with compliments.'
"Ms. Watkins, you are the most beautiful, elegant, and charming woman I have ever seen. It is my greatest fortune today to serve you again!"
"When you're in this dress, you're like a real-life mermaid princess!"
"Ms. Watkins, I always said your beauty and charm come entirely from within you. You're truly stunning!"
Anthony stood nearby with a stoic expression, arms crossed, his face growing darker. The atmosphere around him grew more oppressive.
However, Gabriel, who had long mingled in high society, seemed completely oblivious today.
"Ms. Watkins, if you ever need anything, just contact me. Here is my personal card," Gabriel said, signaling his assistant to hand Jane a card. "This styling session is on the house!"
"Is your mouth just for talking?" Anthony finally couldn't bear it any longer and interrupted Gabriel, intercepting the card before it reached Jane's hand. "I'll pay every penny owed. You shut your mouth." Anthony was clearly annoyed.
Gabriel thought, 'How did Ms. Watkins ever tolerate Mr. Clark? He actually requested me not to speak, such a bad temper!"
It was only then that Gabriel remembered something, 'Jane and Anthony are supposed to be at odds, but why now...?'
Gabriel indeed spoke much less after that, though he occasionally couldn't help but throw in a compliment. Finally, after three hours, Gabriel finished the styling. He left reluctantly, almost under Anthony's look with a hint of threat.
Anthony secretly decided that he would never let this stylist appear in front of Jane again.
"I didn't expect Gabriel's skills to be this good by now," Jane said, looking at herself in the mirror, with great satisfaction.
"Jane Watkins, you'd better shut up now," Anthony said, clearly in a foul mood.
Jane didn't care at all. "Can't I be happy to see an old acquaintance who appreciates me?"
Anthony sneered inwardly, 'You have admirers lined up from Southvale to Paykston and you would be frantic!'
Once at the pinnacle of society, Jane's excellence made her countless enemies, but her brilliance also earned her numerous admirers. Her genuine sincerity made her many friends. Gabriel's enthusiasm and joy towards Jane did not surprise Anthony. To him, it was entirely expected. But Anthony was simply unhappy that so many people would appear in front of Jane, distracting her from him.
At six in the evening, a luxurious cruise ship was docked at the port, which was under tight security to ensure the safety of the banquet attendees.
Luxury cars came and went, and men and women of various skin colors were present, all from wealthy families around the world.
In front of such a scene, Jane felt a bit disoriented for a moment. This scale and style of banquet were not unfamiliar to Jane, but she felt like a lifetime away.
