Chapter 1071 Mr. Clark Hides a Beauty
After hanging up the phone, Anthony once again recalled Jane's unusual behavior today, but couldn't make sense of it.
Anthony heard a knock on the door and pressed the bell on his desk, signaling permission for the person outside to enter.
The finance manager, Carl Morgan, respectfully placed the newly drafted merger plan on Anthony's desk.
With clear and energetic articulation, he reported, "Our evaluation shows that the intrinsic value of this company is higher than estimated, but the goodwill is overvalued..."
Carl had just started speaking when he suddenly realized that Anthony's gaze was icy cold, giving him the impression that if he said another word, he might be in serious trouble.
Sensing this, Carl shut his mouth and looked at Anthony in fear.
Logically, there shouldn't be any issues with this plan, so why did Anthony look so displeased?
"Keep your voice down," Anthony ordered in a low voice.
"Mr. Clark, what did you say?"
"I said, keep your voice down." Anthony looked at Carl expressionlessly as if questioning how someone with his level of intelligence and emotional quotient could become the finance manager.
Carl glanced around and suddenly noticed that the door to Anthony's office lounge was tightly closed.
'Recalling the message circulating in the company group today, could it be that Anthony is hiding his girlfriend in the lounge?' he thought.
"You have one minute to state the key points," Anthony said.
"Okay," Carl immediately replied, lowering his voice as if he were a thief, afraid of disturbing the person in the lounge. "In summary, this company is worth acquiring. The details are in the plan. Please review it!"
After finishing, Anthony glanced at him and waved his hand, indicating he could leave.
Carl felt as if he had been granted amnesty.
Before he could leave the executive floor, he ran into the marketing manager.
"Carl! Why do you look so upset? Did Mr. Clark scold you?" the marketing manager asked with concern.
"Are you looking for Mr. Clark?" Carl noticed the marketing manager was holding two thick files.
"Yes," the marketing manager replied. "Isn't Mr. Clark in his office?"
"He is, but I advise you not to go now," Carl said with a complicated expression. "There seems to be someone in Mr. Clark's lounge. I was scolded by Mr. Clark for speaking a bit too loudly during my report, afraid of disturbing the person inside."
"Really? Mr. Clark actually allowed someone into his lounge!"
"The company group said Mr. Clark came back at noon carrying a woman, and in the morning, he was seen walking around the company with a woman. Do you think it's true?"
"Most likely. I wonder which woman could make Mr. Clark fall in love."
"Who knows? The last person Mr. Clark fell for was someone from the Watkins family."
"I'll come back to report in the afternoon then. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll treat you to dinner tonight!"
At this moment, Jane was still sleeping in Anthony's lounge, completely unaware that the news of her being hidden in the CEO's lounge had spread throughout the entire Clark Group building.
Emerald Gardens wasn't too far from the CBD, and lunch was delivered in just over an hour.
When Anthony returned to the lounge, Jane was comfortably lying on the bed.
She didn't sleep well, with one leg sticking out from under the covers, pressing down on the blanket. It was a familiar sight to Anthony.
He used to joke with her, asking if she had forgotten to learn how to maintain a ladylike sleeping posture during her etiquette lessons as a child.
Anthony's eyes were filled with affection as he leaned down to wake Jane.
"Jane, it's time to get up." Anthony's voice was gentle, low, and magnetic.
Jane wasn't sleeping deeply. Half-awake, she frowned upon hearing someone calling her.
Seeing her reaction, Anthony knew she was getting impatient.
"Jane, have lunch first and then go back to sleep," Anthony gently patted her waist, but Jane twisted her body, causing his hand to land lower.
Anthony's hand stiffened for a moment, savoring the feeling, and he looked at Jane with a smile. However, the sleeping Jane was unaware of the advantage he had taken.
As Anthony began to speak, Jane turned over and buried her head under the covers, blocking out any external noise.
"Have lunch first and then sleep. I know you're awake."
Jane took a deep, frustrated breath and suddenly threw off the covers, her eyes wide open.
"Anthony, are you crazy? I don't want to eat! I hate being disturbed when I'm sleeping! You told me to sleep, and now you're waking me up! Are you annoying or what?"
Jane's temper was fierce upon waking, but Anthony was used to it. He wrapped one arm around her waist and supported her neck with the other, half-lifting her up.
Anthony accepted it all and gently coaxed her, "Yes, I'm annoying. But can you eat first? Billy made the food, and there are dishes you like."
Hearing that Billy had cooked, Jane's anger subsided a bit.
"You're not lying to me?"
Anthony didn't know whether to be angry or amused. He pinched Jane's nose playfully, "Would I lie to you over a meal?"
Only when she had just woken up and was still groggy would she say such cute things.
Jane's intelligence hadn't fully kicked in yet, so she didn't mind Anthony pinching her nose. Instead, she reminded him of a fact.
"Of course, you would. Your cooking isn't good."
Indeed, back when they were still together, he had tried cooking a few times, but the results were always less than satisfactory.
His culinary skills weren't great, and it was a stretch to make a few dishes that suited Jane's picky taste.
Jane got out of bed, but before her feet could touch the ground, Anthony caught them with his hands.
She felt her soles touch something warm and instinctively curled her toes.
It was a bit awkward.
Anthony didn't think there was anything wrong with his actions. He turned to fetch a pair of new slippers and placed them in front of her. "Put on your shoes."
"Why do you have women's slippers here?" she asked.
When Jane moved her feet, the bunny ears on the slippers wiggled. The size was a perfect fit for her feet.
This cute style wasn't her usual preference, but no girl could resist cute things, especially since she found the slippers quite novel.
"I prepared them earlier," Anthony said, taking a suit jacket from the closet and draping it over Jane's shoulders.
The office was slightly cooler than the lounge, and she had just woken up, making her more susceptible to catching a chill.
Jane's fingertips brushed against the sleeve of Anthony's suit jacket, causing ripples in her heart.
Anthony's current behavior and style made it seem as if they were still in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
But they clearly weren't.
It was hard to tell if Anthony was being kind to the mother of his future child or just pretending that they had resumed their intimate relationship.
