Chapter 839 Revealing the Past
Natalie seemed unaware that she had cried. She maintained her posture without moving, her voice steady and numb as she said, "Oliver, I always wished to know my identity, to discover who I really am, but if given the choice, I would rather remain a wild child for life than be a daughter of the Hastings family."
Even now, she felt disgusted at the mere mention of the name 'Susan', which was originally her own!
"Your identity is my beloved wife and the future mother of my daughter, Natalie." Oliver released her hand, stood up, and gently kissed away her tears.
She looked at him with tears still in her eyes.
Oliver saw unprecedented dependence and helplessness in her gaze. He had once wished she were not so strong, that she would be dependent on him. However, seeing Natalie in this state, he realized that it only made him feel sad.
"Oliver, I don't like the Hastings family," Natalie said tearfully. She truly disliked that family. Those people had harmed her time and time again. That family emanated a sense of decay from within. The only normal person, she feared, was Samuel. To think that she was from that family too!
"It's fine if you don't like them. You don't have to recognize them," Oliver said, looking into Natalie's eyes earnestly. His expression was firm and powerful, showing her that he was her rock.
"I'm feeling a bit tired," Natalie said, closing her eyes and appearing ready to sleep.
Oliver knew she had been shocked by the news but did not want to talk about it anymore. She wanted to digest it slowly by herself. He felt somewhat fortunate that Natalie did not know he had already guessed her connection to the Hastings family early on solely because she had overheard it from Samuel today. He planned to let Samuel bear it all alone.
…
Samuel bought tickets for the earliest flight and took Helen back to Tycoon City. Before boarding the plane, he messaged Caleb and James, asking them to go home and wait because there was something important to discuss that evening.
Caleb had long stopped engaging with the family business, enjoying his retirement. James had average work abilities and faced little work pressure. Most of his work-related matters could be arranged at a moment's notice.
The duo's expressions were solemn. They went home early to wait.
When Samuel arrived, he saw his grandfather and father sitting in the living room waiting for him.
"Samuel, why did you call us here in such a hurry?" Caleb asked anxiously. Remembering how his grandson had returned from Paykston, he tentatively inquired, "Has there been a breakthrough regarding Susan?"
Since Samuel just returned to Paykston and summoned them home, Caleb could not help but think of Susan immediately.
James' expression was initially calm, but it quickly turned cold when he saw Helen, who had returned with Samuel, looking distraught. Clearly, there was no good news concerning his daughter; otherwise, his wife, who dearly loved their daughter, would not have appeared so upset.
"Grandpa, Dad, please have a seat. I'll go back to the room to get something," Samuel said, taking a few steps before specifically instructing, "Mom, you sit here for a while too."
Caleb also realized that the situation might not be as he had assumed and it probably was not something positive. If it were a matter concerning the company, Samuel definitely would not have involved Helen. This must be about family matters.
Samuel's room was located to the west, but it was not far from the living room. There were three copies of the DNA test stored in his safe. Except for the copy belonging to Susan and Lucas, which was a photocopy, the other two were originals. The original DNA test documents of Lucas and Susan had been taken by Oliver, but Samuel had made a copy in advance.
"Look at these," Samuel said simply, placing the documents containing the DNA test results on the table for them to see for themselves.
They understood once they saw them.
Helen sat nervously in her chair, clutching the hem of her dress with both hands. She was eager to know what Samuel had brought them, yet she dared not look. Caleb, the patriarch of the family, was present, and she felt it was not her place to reach out first.
With a grave expression, Samuel opened the leather document bag. The first document was a DNA test result, showing no blood relation between Samuel and Susan, no blood relation.
Caleb's eyes suddenly widened, startled. He looked back at the document repeatedly, ensuring he had not misread the words, seeking clarification as he gazed at his grandson.
"Grandpa, keep reading, there's more," Samuel encouraged.
Almost trembling, Caleb quickly looked at the second document. It was DNA test results that showed Samuel and Natalie were full siblings.
The third document confirmed that Susan and Lucas were full siblings.
"Dad!"
Caleb, overwhelmed and in pain, clutched his chest. Several test reports scattered to the ground as a gust of wind swept through.
James was close by and quickly reached out to support Caleb.
Samuel was prepared and swiftly gave Caleb a pre-prepared pill to help him calm down.
Both James and Helen found lab reports at their feet. They picked up the documents, feeling as though a bucket of cold water had been poured over their heads, chilling them to the bone, and they momentarily felt faint.
James was so shocked that he was rendered speechless. In his hands, the DNA test declared that his son and Natalie were biological siblings.
In Helen’s hands, a document stated that Lucas and her daughter, Susan, were also biological siblings.
"How's this possible!"
Helen was more shocked than James. A kind of terror overtook her, her heart pounding wildly. She suddenly snatched the document from James' hand, and upon closer inspection, it seemed like she had received a massive blow. Her body swayed, and she instantly collapsed to the ground. She had said she did not believe it. She had said she wanted a DNA test, and her son had been prepared with the results.
"This is what I want to speak about, and you have all seen the content," Samuel stated as the old man began to speak, cutting him off preemptively, "You don't need to doubt the authenticity of these paternity test results. I personally collected the samples and took them to the hospital for testing. If you still have doubts, you can retest them."
Samuel sat down on the chair next to him calmly, waiting for the others to slowly come to terms with the facts. He glanced at his mother, Helen, who looked as if all life had been drained from her, lying there limp.
"Samuel, I don't doubt your intentions," Caleb said, only realizing after he spoke that his tone implied skepticism toward the reports Samuel had submitted. He sighed, his voice filled with disbelief as he said, "This whole thing is just too unbelievable! When Susan came back, we had already done a DNA test. How could this be possible?"
"That's right! Samuel, the results of the DNA test were right there, and we even did it more than once," James added, trying to make sense of the situation.
