Chapter 687 Sponsor, Me?
Natalie almost thought she had heard wrong, "Samuel contacted you, what for... are you guys back on good terms?"
"Back on what terms? When have I ever been on good terms with him?" Emily Reed had an expression that read 'don't associate me with that lunatic.'
"So, you've been in contact all along?" Natalie found that hard to believe, recalling how Emily had refused to even mention Samuel after the incident with Cen Juan.
Emily shook her head, "It's a recent thing."
"Is he trying to plead with Susan?" Natalie inquired as her suspicion spiked yet accompanied by a feeling of doubt.
If Samuel truly intended to reconcile, his demeanor at the Rosewood Estate, marked by detachment and superiority, would have been different. Instead, he was consistently sarcastic.
"It's not that." Emily Reed subtly gave Natalie an additional glance.
She didn't mention that Samuel was actively seeking her out, kept intentionally dropping Natalie's name, either openly or subtly.
Samuel was quite clever in steering the conversation, and someone less acquainted with him might not even notice that he was purposely bringing up Natalie. However, Emily Reed had known Samuel for years and was fully aware of his tactics.
"Natalie, have you had any interactions with Samuel before?" Emily Reed asked.
Natalie thought Emily Reed wanted her to comment on her past fiancé and after pondering seriously, she replied, "Not really, just a few encounters at the Hastings family's home when they brought Susan over to meet me. He seems a bit offbeat but looks intelligent and stands out among his peers. From what I've seen, Emily, the guy your family chose for you is actually decent."
Emily Reed cut her off, "Let's end the conversation about him. “He and I” are impossible!"
Meanwhile, on her phone, persistent Samuel had sent a long message.
Samuel: [Tell Natalie that it's just about having Oliver as a secret lover for a few years, no need for guilt. One should not be too kind to men, and certainly not to spoil them!]
Emily Reed felt there was merit in Samuel's words. She gave him a thumbs-up and, without hesitation, removed the eccentric from her contact list.
It was his own advice that men shouldn't be treated too kindly or be spoiled.
Emily Reed had nothing left to say to Samuel. She had initially thought he had important matters to discuss; now she strongly suspected that Samuel might have his sights set on Natalie.
Online speculation about Natalie's new husband continued to intensify. Several prominent bloggers delved into names of people who had pursued Natalie in high school or recently shown admiration for her. In a peculiar display of style and alleged evidence, they even listed men who vaguely resembled Oliver in physique and height.
And among these, Natalie didn't recognize several!
"Mr. Windsor, here's the report you requested," said the secretary as he handed over the printed information on Natalie's supposed "new husband" to Oliver.
Oliver searched through the document before finally finding himself mentioned.
The online community commented that except for his build and height matching the man in the photographs, nothing else about him was accurate.
Oliver's face sank instantly upon reading the document. ‘These people are blind as bats!’ he thought.
Noticing Oliver's sudden gloom, the secretary broke into a cold sweat.
"Did you say there's a show that wanted to interview me?" Oliver suddenly said.
His secretary quickly recalled, "Yes, the 'Reminisce' show's team wants to invite you for a special interview next week."
'Reminisce' was akin to a talk show featuring personal stories, selecting current figures of note or celebrities in various fields, showcasing their life's journey or interesting anecdotes to the audience. The show wasn't particularly trendy, but it had substance, otherwise, they wouldn't have dared to send an invitation to Oliver.
"I'll do it, but I want this week's slot." Oliver tossed aside the "new husband's" "fake dossier."
"This week... that would be tonight," his secretary frowned. "Mr. Windsor, if you want to go on air tonight, I need to discuss it with the team. It's not guaranteed."
Oliver nodded.
Fortunately, the guest scheduled for this week on 'Reminisce' was a businessman who was amiable and happy to do Oliver the favor of swapping slots, curious why the usually discreet Mr. Windsor was suddenly willing to appear on this kind of program.
After all, Oliver was previously only featured in financial reports and news.
Before the live broadcast, the program team handed Oliver several cards with questions they planned to ask during the show.
"If there's anything you're uncomfortable answering, feel free to pull out the card," the host said.
Oliver quickly reviewed the contents; most were inquiries into his business insights with a few personal questions, like his hobbies.
"This one." Oliver pulled out one of the cards.
Disappointment flashed in the host’s eyes.
The card read, "What are your thoughts on your future romantic life?"
Ah, they had prepared such a juicy question, but Mr. Windsor was still unwilling to discuss it. Who wouldn't want to know about Mr. Windsor's love life? Not just the audience, but they did too!
What a pity, a real pity!
"Replace this card with a blank one, I have something I want to say," Oliver said.
The host was submerged in the sorrow of lost gossip.
Until the broadcast reached the moment for Oliver's "blank card" segment—
"I've heard some talks about Natalie's new and old sponsors." Oliver paused, his tone questioning, "Old, as in me?"
