Chapter 477

"So you’re saying you’d do it as long as it’s not in front of everyone?” Natalie said from the back.

Jamie and Samuel stepped aside simultaneously.

Natalie, seated in her wheelchair, looked at Susan calmly. Her left arm was injured, with the sleeve cut open at the elbow to reveal a thick bandage.

"What... What are you saying?" Susan needed a moment to understand the meaning behind Natalie's words. "Natalie, tell the truth! You ran into me! Don’t blame this on me!”

Susan paused, struck by a thought. "Right! If I truly wanted to harm you, I wouldn’t have saved you back then!"

"Why did you save me back then?" Natalie asked.

Susan froze as chills ran down her spine. All her life, she had been the one orchestrating the game, never the one being manipulated. How had she not seen that from the moment Natalie entered her room, this was all a trap set by Natalie!

"Natalie, you’re despicable!" Susan pointed at Natalie, accusing her.

"You injured me, and I’ve yet to seek justice, but you’re lashing out at me.”

Almost everyone sided with Natalie, who sat with dignity in her wheelchair. Despite the cast on her leg, the gauze around her forearm, and appearing more fragile and worn from the ordeal, she remained the epitome of grace and radiance. Her poise and composure left no room for criticism. Moreover, after enduring so much in the Watson family and being exposed for her unknown origin, she was still unshakable.

Susan could not understand how Natalie could remain so calm.

"Oliver, Grandpa, think about this. This is my room. All of you were outside. If something happened to Natalie, I would be the primary suspect. I wouldn’t be foolish enough to do anything to her! And I have no motive to harm her!"

With tears welling in her eyes, Susan turned to the three men, whose opinions mattered most. She looked miserable like a pitiful creature in need of sympathy, easily swaying men’s hearts.

Unfortunately for her, the men in front of her were preoccupied with other matters. Oliver's attention was solely on Natalie, Samuel had long seen through his sister's pretenses, and Mr. Hastings's gaze intermittently shifted toward Natalie, reminded of someone from his own past.

"Didn’t you threaten me to keep quiet about the theft of Oliver's ring? Didn’t you also want my ring? Have you forgotten all that?" Natalie's eyes deliberately moved to the floor near her wheelchair.

There, a pink diamond ring lay conspicuously on the ground.

Oliver narrowed his eyes as he turned to look at Natalie's bare ring finger.

She had always shown a preference for minimal jewelry; the bracelets and bangles he had given her seldom graced her wrists. Now, noticing the absence of their wedding ring, it felt as though she had truly severed all ties with him.

As Natalie spoke, Susan instinctively lifted her hand, revealing to everyone the shiny men's ring on her thumb.

"It’s not... I didn’t..."

In a moment of panic, Susan swiftly removed the ring and threw it away.
