Chapter 670 Men, Should Not Be Spoiled!
Thirty minutes after Natalie had descended the stairs, Marjorie returned, toting her newly purchased limited edition SplendorSphere purse. On her right wrist was a smooth pearl bracelet, and on her left, her Emerald bracelet. Her necklace and earrings were also made of pearls, all complementing her loose-fitting custom dress—she was both elegant and flamboyantly dressed.
"Up already!" Marjorie said, glancing at the clock after spotting Natalie. It was indeed only eleven. She was surprised, "You've slept enough already? Young people sure are different, so full of energy."
Natalie paused for two seconds, trying to catch up with what old Mrs. Windsor was implying, and then she could feel her cheeks flush with embarrassment.
Marjorie waved her hand dismissively, "What's there to be shy about? I've been through it all; I've even had a son! No need for shyness!"
Natalie was speechless.
It seemed that the thick skin of the Windsor family was a trait handed down from generation to generation, taught both by word and by example.
"Grandma, about the milk yesterday..." Natalie began tentatively, her questioning intent clear.
Marjorie had gotten an earful from her oldest grandson that morning about the milk incident. She cleared her throat, feigning calm, "Ah, about that milk... there was indeed a little mix-up. I accidentally added a prescription thinking it was a vitamin supplement."
‘Yeah, right. As if any medicine could have that effect!’
Marjorie, discovering Natalie bore no grudge, was pleased. Her granddaughter-in-law was so much easier to deal with compared to her hot-headed grandson who first thing in the morning had accused her of nonsense.
She hadn't been up to any nonsense; she was merely trying her best for their relationship.
"But don't worry, the medicine is harmless," Marjorie reassured her. "And I can only pull such a stunt once." Because next time, Oliver would be on his guard and there'd be no catching him off guard, next time.
Marjorie added, "I intended for Oliver to have it, but if it affected his performance, and he ended up giving me a dull great-grandchild... Nope, nope, I'd never allow it!"
There wasn't even a sign of a great-grandchild yet. Natalie just looked at the old lady seriously shaking her head, speechless. If Mrs. Windsor knew they had used protection last night, she would probably be quite upset.
Oliver wasn't coming home for lunch, leaving only Natalie and Marjorie to dine at the Rosewood Estate. Natalie had planned to prepare a nice lunch for Oliver to be sent over, but Marjorie had forcefully stopped her, "Don't spoil him. Men get spoiled too easily and that leads them to no good!"
Natalie was at a loss for words, not sure if she should remind the older woman that Oliver was her kin, and not a grandson-in-law.
Marjorie seemed to have had her fill at the morning tea because she ate little at lunch. After setting down her utensils, she started talking.
"Natalie, let me tell you, you really can't treat men too well, you have to keep them on their toes!" Marjorie said with conviction. "Don't let my grandson's temper fool you. Sure, he's got a laundry list of flaws, but at least he looks decent enough, has some filthy money, and isn't stupid, which means there's no shortage of people after him!"
Natalie had become accustomed to Marjorie's complaints about Oliver's behavior.
Marjorie continued, "The person who just came by was trying to set up a marriage with Oliver."
A marriage proposal? Another one hoping to become Mrs. Windsor right at the doorstep? Natalie perked up with some interest, focusing intently on Marjorie.
Seeing Natalie's eagerness, Marjorie spoke even more enthusiastically, as if she was discussing someone else's juicy gossip.
"Natalie, you wouldn't believe it, but this one today is already the third person this month looking for my help. The others were just ‘okay’, and somewhat decent looking, but today took the cake.
"That Shaw lady, she never got along with me when she was younger, married the wrong guy because of her poor judgment, couldn't secure a good future for her children, and now she wants to marry her granddaughter into my Windsor family!
It's laughable; her granddaughter has never been at the top of her class, dumber than a bag of rocks, and not to mention, she has such dreary looks that would dilute the aesthetics of Oliver's descendants. No way, that can't happen!"
Marjorie shook her head with distaste.
Natalie could see that old Mrs. Windsor was truly all about looks.
Oliver had a bit of that trait as well. Natalie noticed it the moment she stepped into Rosewood Estate. For instance, the staff in the main building of the Rosewood Estate were all handsome men and gorgeous women.
Those who were older carried themselves with grace and intellect, and even the guard at the gate was a well-proportioned, good-looking man. In addition, the eight secretaries and several assistants working closely with Oliver on the corporate floor of RK Group, including Jamie and Charles's two aides, all had striking good looks.
"So, Grandma, from what you're saying, it sounds like you're quite pleased with me, right?" Natalie asked with a smile.
Marjorie's smile faded as she pretended to be stern, saying, "You, you're passable."
But the satisfaction in her eyes couldn't be hidden. After all, she personally handpicked her granddaughter-in-law, combining beauty and intelligence! She, Marjorie, had such an eye for talent!
Currently, at the HHY Building, the higher-ups at HHY used every trick in the book to try to slander or suppress Natalie, but all their efforts failed.
Accusing Natalie of being a traitor who flew the coop once she made a name for herself?
Natalie's fans brought up the times the company had been opportunistic and exploitative during her career's rough patches.
Looking for other dirt on Natalie? Besides her much-dredged-up origins, there was nothing else on Natalie to be found!
After her divorce from Oliver, the woman could still return to a position of power, which even nullified the criticism that she had risen through her association with a man! They say Natalie's been messy with her relationships. Yet she is currently single, and isn't it perfectly normal for a person to have a boyfriend?
The executives at HHY were seriously regretting their decision to send Natalie away to summer camp. They thought that if they'd shown her even a smidge of insincere kindness back then, things wouldn't have gotten to this point.
The only small comfort they had was that Natalie was planning to sue Susan in a life-altering lawsuit. Natalie was powerless while the Hastings family had deep connections and influence; if they truly wanted to, they could probably save Susan. But this morning, the media had just released news of Susan's arrest by the police and an impending court appearance. Their last shred of hope had vanished.
"CEO Torres, Isaac from RK Entertainment is here," announced the secretary, interrupting the executive meeting.
Isaac's status was undeniable. His own entertainment company was highly successful, one of the top three in the nation, and on top of that, he was Oliver's close friend. The HHY staff dared not neglect him and ushered him in promptly.
The HHY team looked at each other, completely befuddled. HHY was a fashion company with little business interaction with Isaac, yet here he was, coming to them.
"What brings us the honor of Isaac's visit?" asked CEO Torres, with a respectful smile.
Isaac was greeted by the attentive faces of the surrounding executives.
"There's nothing particularly important," said Isaac nonchalantly, hands in his pockets and strolling as if he was in his own prestigious company, "By the way, what were you gentlemen discussing just now?"
