Chapter 962: Deserve No Such Attention!
Shirley was the only child of the Lopez family, but she had absolutely no business acumen.
Such a description was an understatement. She indeed had no skills other than spending money. Therefore, Shirley's parents have been looking for a husband for her who could love their daughter and support the Lopez family.
However, Shirley only wanted to have fun outside. Even someone like Jane, who rarely mingled in social circles, knew that Shirley was grounded by her parents last month for getting involved with a newly debuted male celebrity.
"Jane! Shut up!" Shirley stood up, feeling furious and embarrassed.
Jane stood there with an indifferent look, which only made Shirley even angrier. ‘Fine, I'll shut up. I don’t want to talk to you anyway," she thought.
"Jane, stop pretending to be mighty. If it weren't for Aurora, you wouldn't even have the right to be here!" Shirley immediately seized the opportunity to bring up the downfall of the Watkins family.
Family background and social status were always hot topics in this circle.
Jane glanced at Aurora sitting among the crowd and thought sarcastically, ‘I should really 'thank' Aurora as if I want to be here.’
"Aurora, aren't you afraid that this violent rival might sneak into Mr. Clark's bed in the middle of the night?" Joe, dressed in eye-catching trendy clothes, looked at Jane with disdain and contempt.
Jane took a careful look at him for a couple of seconds before recognizing Joe. After three years, this jerk had completely grown ugly.
Jane's disdain was so obvious that Joe immediately sensed her contempt. He wanted to get angry but quickly remembered the time Jane had beaten him up.
"Aurora, don't just let her into our gatherings. It's really an eyesore!" Joe quickly said, "Get her out of here."
"Mr. Green, I thought Jane knew everyone, so I invited her to relax a bit," Aurora said.
People in the circle had always speculated why Jane was at the Clark family.
To outsiders, although Jane was Anthony's ex-girlfriend, they were considered irreconcilable enemies.
Everyone knew that Anthony's father was killed by Jane's father, and Anthony became Jane's boyfriend solely to destroy the Watkins family.
As for why Jane was at the Clark family, the only reasonable explanation people could think of was that the Clark family wanted to humiliate Jane.
Given the situation, this opportunity couldn't be missed.
After all, Jane was invited by Aurora.
"Jane, I heard you're really good at playing the piano. How about performing a piece for us?" Shirley wanted to regain her footing.
Others chimed in, "I also heard Ms. Watkins is quite the pianist. If we get to see the performance of the former top socialite, we should thank to Aurora for giving us this chance!"
"Perfect, Aurora's baby listening to some music is good for prenatal education."
"Jane may not be part of our circle anymore, but if she performs a few pieces for us, she might be able to join us. What do you all think?"
"After the Watkins family went bankrupt, I bet Ms. Watkins hasn't had access to a good piano. This is a free opportunity for her!"
Everyone chimed in one after another, and Aurora seemed unable to get a word in edgewise. By the time Aurora tried to speak, the others were already discussing what piece to have Jane play, treating her like a free musician who could take requests without considering whether Jane agreed or not.
"Ms. Watkins, everyone is in high spirits. Why don't you just play something?" Aurora asked, not waiting for Jane to respond. She had the servants bring out the piano from the music room.
Jane silently watched Aurora.
Aurora felt a chill. She sensed that Jane was looking at her as if she were a clown. Jane clearly saw through her mind.
‘But so what? Jane is the one who is unkind first, so she couldn't blame me for being ruthless,’ Aurora pondered.
"How about Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor?" someone suggested.
Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor is a piece by Mozart, known for its high difficulty in both technique and rhythm. It was recognized as one of the most challenging piano pieces in the world.
Asking Jane to play this piece was clearly a setup to humiliate.
Shirley laughed and said, "Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor might be a bit too difficult for the current Jane. After all, it's been years since she touched a piano. How about an easy one, Moonlight Sonata?"
"Shirley! Let's go with Moonlight Sonata. Ms. Watkins can handle that!" Others echoed together.
"Moonlight Sonata it is, then," Shirley added.
"Jane, why don't you play Moonlight Sonata for us?" Joe asked.
The room was filled with malicious laughter.
Jane looked at Aurora, the instigator of all this, and smirked. "When did I agree to this?"
The laughter and chatter quieted down.
Aurora, who had been quietly observing, frowned slightly at Jane's words.
Aurora thought Jane had no way out.
"Do you think you deserve to have me play for you?" Jane questioned.
Aurora forgot that Jane never played by the rules.
Before Jane finished speaking, the expressions of everyone in the room had already changed.
"Jane, do you still think you're the same Ms. Watkins from back then? How do we not deserve it? Anyone here has a higher status than you. We're doing you a favor by asking you to play!" Joe couldn't hold back.
"Exactly, you deserve no attention!" someone echoed.
"I don't need your favor, and you don't deserve to give it to me." Jane smiled and asked Aurora, "Aurora, I've greeted these people. I don't think I need to join you. Don't you agree?"
Jane could roughly guess that Aurora had invited these people to make Jane realize that she was no longer Ms. Watkins with the powerful Watkins family backing her and to show her that she was no longer worthy of Anthony.
"Then Ms. Watkins, do as you please." Aurora had invited these people to humiliate and intimidate Jane, but the situation had completely backfired. There was no need to keep Jane around.
Aurora thought, ‘Why keep her? To let Jane show off?’
Jane left without hesitation, leaving the crowd a determined figure.
It was as if Jane had never fallen from the pedestal of the top socialite.
"Is she just leaving?" someone said, looking at the piano that had just been brought in.
" Do you want to keep her for dinner? Even if you want to, Jane would probably think we're not worthy! I don't know what she's so proud of and she is a failure now," someone mocked.
