Chapter 1049 His Precious Treasure
Anthony's pupils contracted sharply as he looked at Jane in disbelief, his eyes filled with suppressed joy, while also taking in Jane's stunned expression.
Jane seemed frozen in place, taking a long moment to react.
"What?" Jane asked the doctor.
"Ms. Watkins, you're pregnant," the doctor said with a big smile, thinking Jane was just overwhelmed with happiness. "Don't be nervous, the baby is doing well. It's normal for young couples to be anxious when they become parents for the first time."
The obstetrician skillfully offered congratulations. "I can tell your boyfriend loves you very much. He hasn't taken his eyes off you since you walked in. If you want to keep the baby, you might want to plan the wedding soon, or else your baby bump will start to show."
After finishing, the doctor noticed that Jane's face showed no joy, only fear and resistance.
"Do you want to keep the baby?" The doctor, accustomed to seeing many people come in for abortions, asked matter-of-factly. "If not, you can have the procedure soon. The smaller the fetus, the less harm to the mother's body."
Before Jane could gather her thoughts, Anthony firmly said, "Of course we want it!"
The doctor breathed a sigh of relief, happy to save a life, and carefully explained to Anthony what to watch out for in the early stages of pregnancy.
Jane turned her head, looking at Anthony with a blank expression, not listening to a single word.
In contrast, Anthony listened as if he were attending a billion-dollar acquisition meeting.
It wasn't until Anthony held Jane and led her out of the hospital that the night breeze woke Jane's senses.
Jane closed her eyes tightly then opened them and looked at Anthony with an unusually cold gaze. "When?"
"Jane, we'll talk about it when we get back." Jane's coldness dampened Anthony's joy. He tried to hold her hand, but Jane pulled away.
"Back where?" Jane asked sarcastically. "Back to your family in Southvale?"
Anthony had no such intention. "I can go with you back to Paykston."
Jane's mind was in chaos. She looked at the night sky, trying to calm down, but couldn't. Her mind was filled with "five weeks pregnant" and "congratulations."
Jane had just seen off a pregnant Aurora, and now she was pregnant herself?
Putting aside everything else, because of Aurora, Jane had been avoiding pregnant women lately. It was like fate was playing a cruel joke on her!
"Five weeks." Jane held up five fingers, confronting Anthony. "When did this happen?"
During that time, Jane had been with Anthony, so the baby could only be his.
Even if it wasn't, Anthony wouldn't be so happy.
"This isn't the place to discuss this." Anthony controlled his urge to touch Jane, to hold her, and said, "Let's go back to the hotel and talk, okay?"
"Anthony Clark, you rarely ask me 'okay'." Jane saw through Anthony's guilt.
However, the hospital entrance was indeed not the place to talk.
Jane didn't like making a scene. If there was going to be a scene, it should be someone else's. If it was hers, no one else should see it.
Like now.
Jane could even guess that Anthony didn't want to discuss this at the hospital entrance to prevent her from turning around and getting an abortion.
Anthony had the bodyguards drive to Jane's hotel and upgraded her suite.
Anthony poured Jane a cup of hot water. "Let's talk sitting down."
"Standing won't affect my ability to speak." Jane stood still.
Anthony saw through Jane's thoughts. "Jane, my people are everywhere outside. Even if you want, you can't leave. Besides, don't forget, I taught you most of your skills."
Anthony knew how to control Jane's body quickly.
Jane was amused by Anthony's domineering and overbearing attitude. "Anthony Clark, are you planning to use force because you can't persuade me?"
"Jane, if you listen to me, I'll naturally go along with you."
"Listen to what you're saying!" Jane got angry.
Anthony remained calm and handed Jane the warm water. "Have a sip. The doctor said pregnant women shouldn't get too emotional; it's bad for your health."
"Don't remind me that I'm pregnant!" Jane snapped like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "When did this happen? Can you tell me now?"
"On the cruise," Anthony said without further delay, telling Jane the truth.
"The cruise." Jane was too shocked by the pregnancy news to think clearly.
Seeing that Jane didn't remember, Anthony reminded her. "The night you came to play games with me."
When Anthony mentioned playing games, Jane almost didn't remember. That was the night she drank alone.
Right, Jane drank too much that night and slept with Anthony. She knew it at the time, and Anthony didn't hide it, but...
"You didn't use a condom?" Jane questioned, then recalled seeing something in the trash can.
Anthony had used one.
Anthony rarely touched his nose, a gesture that in psychology indicated embarrassment or guilt.
"I used one at first," Anthony said. "But that broke, and there were no more in the room."
In other words, they had done it one or two times without protection!
Jane picked up a pillow from the sofa and threw it at Anthony. "Anthony Clark, you bastard!"
Anthony didn't dodge, standing there as the pillow hit his face.
"Sit down and talk." Anthony was very patient at this moment.
Jane took a few deep breaths, telling herself to stay calm.
"Fine." Jane sat down. "Anthony, I'll accept this. Objectively speaking, it's not entirely your fault. I suggested drinking, and I know, men can't control their impulse...I won't hold it against you this time, I..."
"What are you going to do?" Anthony interrupted Jane. "What are you planning?"
Anthony remained calm throughout, operating at high speed to prevent Jane from doing anything impulsive, keeping his tone and words in check to avoid agitating her.
This was indeed Anthony's fault.
Anthony hadn't expected that one or two times would get Jane pregnant, or rather, he hadn't planned for Jane to become a mother so soon.
In Anthony's mind, Jane was still a child herself, a child who could act recklessly and willfully. How could a child be tied down by another child?
However, now that she was unexpectedly pregnant, they could keep the baby.
Regardless of whether the child was a boy or a girl, Jane was the most important person in Anthony's heart, his treasure.
