Chapter 319 Mrs. Windsor's Gift

Barrett felt as though his heart had been pierced once again by a blade coated with poison. He wanted to protest but he had no words to refuse. In truth, he was just a student.

In terms of social status, Oliver’s wife’s status was higher than that of his family.

"This is the money I won today. Please divide it among yourselves as a token of our meeting," Natalie said, bringing a check out of her pocket and offering it to Barrett.

Natalie's winnings for the day amounted to at least seven to eight million dollars. This was a gift that not many could afford to give.

"I don’t want it!" Barrett exclaimed, recoiling as if the check had burned him. However, he found the check stuffed into his hand. He said pridefully, “I’ll never take back the money that I lost!”

Natalie, with a slight lift of her chin, responded calmly, "The money I give is never taken back too."

She had never given money away in this manner before, so it was true that she had never taken it back before.

Barrett opened his mouth to speak further, but Natalie had already turned her back and begun to walk away. He was on the verge of chasing after her, intending to seize her arm, when he suddenly became aware of a cold gaze directed at him from a distance.

Oliver's eyes bore into him with contempt. He sensed that any attempt to touch Natalie might lead to his death at the hands of Oliver.

He thought, ‘Don’t worry, Oliver. You may treat her like a precious treasure, but I have no interest in her at all! Not only is she too intelligent, which means that I’ll only be suppressed by her, but she’s also your wife! How could I possibly dare to have any thoughts about her?!’

"Oliver, let’s go," Natalie called out, approaching him.

Having previously informed the group of their departure, Oliver wrapped his arm around Natalie’s waist and made his way to the car.

"Bye, everyone. It was a pleasure to meet you," Natalie said courteously.

The group responded one after another.

"Oliver!" Susan called out instinctively. It was only when Oliver paused that she realized what she had done.

Susan naturally did not want Oliver to leave. She came for Oliver after all. It would be pointless and a waste of time to stay if he was not present.

Oliver paused.

"It’s… it is nothing. Drive safely," Susan managed to say with a strained smile. Witnessing Oliver's hand rest possessively on Natalie's waist inflicted a sharp pang in her heart.

Susan watched the Ferrari until it vanished from view.

At this time, someone said, “Natalie is really amazing!”

A crowd had gathered around Barrett, who held the check Natalie had given him. His expression was one of annoyance as he said stiffly, "Those who had lost money can share it among yourselves!"

"It is a ten-million-dollar check. Did we lose that much to Natalie tonight?" one person asked, surprised.

"There’s our lost money, and then some. It’s a gift from her, a token of our first meeting," Barrett explained with a wave of his hand, a hint of impatience in his gesture.

"You were the biggest loser today. Why aren’t you happy?" another person teased.

"It’s just three or four million dollars; it doesn’t matter," Barrett muttered under his breath.

Laughter broke out among the men.

"Didn’t your father threaten to stop giving you your spending money if you fail your finals? Just how badly did you fail before?”

"Just distribute what you lost among yourselves. The remainder is mine," Barrett declared, resigning himself to the outcome. Among his companions, he was the only one still studying.

He thought, ‘I really don’t understand why Natalie is so good at studying!’

The conversation turned to gossip, as one man shared, "Previously, there were rumors that Natalie tried to climb the social ladder by marrying Oliver. However, it seems like Oliver is absolutely in love with her.”

"I think they’re a good match. They’re both attractive and intelligent, with compatible personalities. If I had a girlfriend like Natalie, I’d be in love as well. It’s too bad that I’m still single!”

"You change your girlfriends like you’re changing clothes, and you still dare to say you’re single?”

"Those women? They aren’t my girlfriends; they’re just friends."

"I noticed Oliver could barely tear his eyes away from Natalie the entire night."

"To be honest, I didn’t expect to see Oliver treat a woman like that in my life."

Each remark and each observation felt like a cut to Susan’s heart. The pain was so intense that it felt as though her soul was being torn apart.

She could have come to terms with Hailey marrying Oliver's side. After all, Hailey and Oliver had been engaged since they were young, and she had resigned herself to that. However, she could not accept Natalie being Oliver’s wife. With Hailey’s absence, she felt she was the most suitable person to be Oliver’s wife.

Before Natalie's arrival, Oliver had always shown her care and indulged her.

‘But today…’

Susan shut her eyes, trying to quell the storm of emotions raging within her.

A sudden idea sparked in her mind when she thought about Hailey's prior engagement to Oliver, ‘Why don’t I join forces with Hailey? She’s a ready-made weapon! She should be willing to cooperate with me!’

"What did you tell Barrett?" Oliver asked curiously in the car.

Natalie, securing her seatbelt, replied with an air of mystery, "Nothing much."

Oliver said seriously, “Just so you know, Barrett was only accepted into college because his family donated a lab. He’s been failing since middle school! Not only that, but he’s also been hitting on girls since then!”

Of course, Barrett had his advantages as well. He had an extensive network and a high level of emotional intelligence. Apart from his studies, he excelled in other things as well.

However, Oliver did not share these things with Natalie.

Natalie was puzzled by his eagerness to disclose his friend's flaws. “So?”

"Natalie, you’re my wife. It’s best if you keep a distance from men who try to sweet-talk you!”

Natalie laughed as realization dawned on her. She said, "You can’t seriously believe there's anything between Barrett and me, right? That's ridiculous. He’s too childish."

Unsurprisingly, Natalie did not have a good impression of Barrett.

Although Oliver's expression softened somewhat, a chill still lingered in his gaze.

Natalie cleverly decided to stay silent.

"What exactly did you say to him?" Oliver pressed further.

"I gave our winnings to him and told him to divide them with the others. It’s a gift for our first meeting,” Natalie explained.

Oliver seemed very satisfied with her answer. He felt as though she had fully acknowledged her role as his wife and was trying to get along with his friends.

Suddenly, he removed his seatbelt and leaned forward. He raised her chin and kissed her fervently.

Natalie was taken aback by the suddenness and the fervor of the kiss, which slowly turned gentle, which was akin to savoring a piece of exquisite cake, slowly indulging in every bite and relishing its flavor.
