Chapter 951 You're Lying!
Ann didn't notice the disappointment that flashed in Aurora's eyes.
Aurora's mother wasn't around because Linda didn't want to be with her.
Aurora was fully aware that, despite Linda's love for her, her position in Linda's heart was overshadowed by Wade, who was returning from abroad soon. Linda was preoccupied with preparing for Wade's homecoming.
In reality, if it weren't for the Clark family's influence, Linda wouldn't have consented to Aurora marrying into their family. Aurora's personal feelings towards a man were secondary to marrying someone who could benefit Wade.
After Ann left, Aurora stared at the ceiling, lost in thought, feeling a constant sense of unease.
She feared losing the baby, a bargaining chip to keep Anthony by her side. She hoped that marrying Anthony would make him love her. But what if she never got the chance to marry him?
She worried that Anthony might have gone to see Jane. His earlier words had left Aurora feeling deeply unsettled. She was afraid that everything she had now—her fiancé, the soon-to-be-born child, the planned wedding after the child's birth, and the family she was about to have—might all turn out to be an illusion, leaving her with nothing in the end.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the hospital room door.
The servant at the door announced, "Ms. Dewar, Mr. Clark is here to see you," awaiting Aurora's response.
If Aurora did not wish to see anyone, Hubert wouldn't be allowed in. Jane nodded, indicating to admit Hubert.
Aurora didn't care for Hubert. She sensed that his gaze was always laced with disrespect towards her, as if he viewed her as a mere object of desire.
This was despite the fact that Aurora was Hubert's sister-in-law!
"Ms. Dewar, it's only been a few days. You're already in the hospital. Didn't my brother take good care of you and your baby?"
Aurora felt there was a hidden meaning in Hubert's words. His gaze was like he was looking at something that belonged to him, especially when he looked at her belly, it was utterly shameless.
"Anthony is busy with work," Aurora said, subtly protecting her belly.
When interacting with family members, it was important to maintain a facade of harmony as long as there was no overt conflict. This was particularly crucial for someone like Aurora, who desired to marry Anthony but had not yet formalized the relationship. She couldn't display any negative feelings towards the Clark family's second son.
"Busy?" Hubert laughed, "I think he's busy having an affair."
"What did you say?" Aurora was momentarily stunned, a bad premonition rising in her heart.
Hubert casually pulled a chair to the bedside and sat down, saying, "You may think my brother is at work, but he's actually seeing another woman, Jane. Why the surprised expression? It's quite normal for him to spend time with Jane. The women here at home never quite match up to those outside, and besides, he hasn't completely given up on Jane.”
"You're lying to me."
“Why would I lie to you? They're at Serenity Haven Resort. My brother is a major shareholder in that hotel. As his fiancée, you can easily verify their location. But you don't need to verify it; I can tell you directly. Not only did they go into the same room, but my brother also ordered breakfast and lunch for Jane.
Anthony had never been concerned with how Aurora had her breakfast or if she had lunch. This indicated that Anthony and Jane had been together for a long time.
Hubert was well aware that Anthony had left the room in under an hour, but he intentionally deceived Aurora.
"Hubert, you're lying!" Aurora glared at him, shouting in frustration.
Aurora couldn't believe it! She didn't want to believe it!
“Aurora, calm down. Be careful of the baby," Hubert playfully teased Aurora.
Aurora blinked, coming back to reality, and promptly took a deep breath to calm herself. Being pregnant, she couldn't afford to get agitated.
Getting angry wasn't good for the baby.
It wasn't worth it to let Hubert affect the baby.
“You know whether I'm lying or not," Hubert said casually. "If you've come to visit me, I appreciate it, but I'm tired and want to rest."
Aurora started to encourage Hubert to go. "You rest. I can keep an eye on you," Hubert suggested. Aurora's eyes widened in disbelief. "Hubert Clark, mind your words! Show some respect.”
"Respect? It's not like I haven't seen it before."
Aurora thought Hubert was speaking nonsense. She barely knew him, and her upbringing wouldn't permit her to sleep in front of strangers, so how could Hubert claim to have seen her asleep?
"Can you leave now?" Aurora held back her anger.
Hubert, who was cheeky, stated, "I don't intend to leave just yet."
"Hubert, what do you want?"
His gaze was too obvious, even suggestive. The dynamic between a wife and her husband's brother was already subject to suspicion.
"I'm here to check on you and the baby, and to remind you that if you can't hold my brother's affection, I can assist you in securing your position as the future Mrs. Clark," Hubert remarked, casting a significant glance at Aurora's pregnant belly.
"So that's your goal," Aurora asked suspiciously and cautiously. "Why should I believe you? Why would you help me?"
‘I will make you believe me,’ Hubert thought, anticipating the moment when Aurora would be desperate, when her jealousy would peak, and she would seek solace in his arms.
If Hubert replaced Anthony in the Clark family and married Aurora, she would become the future Mrs. Clark. While Hubert didn't have strong feelings for Aurora, he found her attractive, her physique pleasing, and she was carrying his son. Granting her the title of wife seemed acceptable.
Aurora felt a lingering chill even after Hubert left.
She contacted the doctor to examine her body, and the diagnosis was that she was overthinking. Jane received a call from the Clark family requesting her return the following day.
The Clark family mansion was bustling with activity as soon as she arrived at the entrance, with people busily coming and going, transporting items such as baby strollers, cribs, baby clothes, and various supplements.
It was obvious they were for Aurora.
In the living room, Ann was overseeing the placement of baby items by the servants, finalizing Aurora's late-pregnancy nutrition plan with the nutritionist, and ensuring a dedicated medical team was always on standby for Aurora.
When Ann caught sight of Jane, her expression changed, and she looked at her disdainfully. She carried on directing the servants, completely ignoring Jane, seemingly to make her feel uncomfortable.
“This soup isn't nice. Go get something of higher quality. Aurora is the lady of our house and she is carrying the Clark family's first grandchild, she deserves the best!" Ann's voice boomed, directed towards Jane as the only other person present besides the servants.
It was obvious that Ann wanted Jane to hear. Jane found Ann's behavior ridiculous.
At fifty-something years old, she was still acting like everyone else were fools.
