Chapter 1106 Fetal Deformity
Anthony asked Jane why she looked so down.
Jane's face was a picture of defiance and annoyance, as if to say, "I'm not telling you; figure it out yourself!"
"I must've been out of my mind to agree to come here for prenatal care," Jane snapped.
Emerald Gardens was way better—simple staff, no classes to attend, and no annoying Aurora trying to steal the spotlight.
"If you're really unhappy, we can go back," Anthony said, almost always giving in to Jane when it came to prenatal care.
Jane did want to go back, "But if we do, people will think your mom kicked us out because she’s tired of my baby. How will people see my baby then? If you get married, you'll bring a stepmom into your child's life, and they won't even have a grandma to care for them. How pitiful!"
"Jane." Anthony's face darkened. "You know I hate hearing that, so why do you keep saying it?"
'Don't like hearing you'll marry someone else? Do you really think you'll stay single for my child forever?' Jane thought, not believing it but also not daring to argue with Anthony openly.
"You only care about what you don't like to hear, about your unhappiness," Jane muttered, sulking. "Ann is already taking other women to buy things for my baby. Isn't that preparing for the future?"
"Is that why you're upset?" Anthony suddenly realized and couldn't help but laugh.
"What do you mean?" Jane glared, furious. "Do you think I'm being unreasonable? Why can't you men ever self-reflect?"
This had escalated to a matter of men's values.
Anthony admitted his mistake; a pregnant woman was always right.
"We won't use the stuff my mom got then. We'll use the ones from Emerald Gardens."
Almost all the baby products at Emerald Gardens were picked by Jane herself.
Jane was barely satisfied, and her gloomy mood for many days finally lifted.
"So, for tomorrow's prenatal checkup, can my mom go with you?" Anthony brought up. "I have to go to Paykston early for an important meeting."
Jane's expression turned momentarily dazed at the mention of Pakiston.
She hadn't been back to that city for a long time. It was where she was born and raised, her hometown, and her best friends, and it held so many of her memories.
But now, hearing the name of the city, she felt a bit unfamiliar.
"Sweetie, when you want to go back, I'll go with you," Anthony said, pulling Jane into a gentle hug.
He knew she was homesick.
Jane was very familiar with the usual steps and procedures of the prenatal checkup. The only new thing this time was Ann's company.
Ann was pretty happy but didn't show it, even asking the driver to use the luxury nanny car.
As soon as they got in, Ann got a phone call.
"Are you hurt? Okay, okay, don't worry, I'll be right there. Aurora, don't worry!"
Ann quickly opened the car door again, told the servant to get another car ready, and turned to Jane. "Jane, I have an urgent matter. I can't go with you to the prenatal checkup today. The hospital's already set up; you need to go."
With that, she got out without looking back.
Jane was a bit stunned; she had heard "Aurora" clearly just now.
Ann was in such a hurry because of a call from Aurora, right?
Anyone who didn't know might think Aurora had no parents, no husband, no family. Otherwise, why would she call Ann?
And Ann was so eager to go that anyone who didn't know might think Aurora was her daughter-in-law or daughter.
The hospital Jane went to today wasn't the private one she usually went to; she chose the Women and Children's Hospital for convenience.
She thought she could leave after the checkup because, based on experience, the results would be sent to Anthony if there were no special circumstances.
But this time, Jane was called into the consultation room by the doctor.
"Didn't your family come with you?" the doctor asked while flipping through Jane's medical records.
"No." Jane didn't quite understand the procedures for the different stages of pregnancy and asked, "Does this checkup require the family to be present?"
"Not necessarily..." the doctor replied.
"Doctor, just say it." Jane sensed something was wrong.
The doctor's reaction made it seem like she had some terminal illness.
The doctor suggested, "We still need to communicate with your family. Why don't you call them now?"
Jane was silent for a moment and said, "I'm not married."
The doctor was stunned for a moment, then quickly understood and muttered disapprovingly. "So many young people nowadays are having children out of wedlock; I don't know what they're thinking. Without a reliable person to take care of them, no wonder this happens. Since you don't have family, I'll communicate directly with you."
"Please go ahead." Jane's heart tightened.
"Have you taken any medication recently?"
"No." Jane hadn't been sick recently, and a nutritionist strictly monitored all her meals.
"That's strange. According to the test results, you should have taken some medication, which has now led to a high probability of fetal deformity. Even if the baby is born successfully, there's a high chance of intellectual disability."
Seeing Jane's face turn pale, the doctor steeled herself and said, "From a medical perspective, I suggest you terminate the pregnancy."
