Chapter 1038 "You're absolutely right."

Ann thought to herself, 'What does that even mean? Jane clearly owes the Clark family and the deceased daughter!'

Ann no longer wanted to discuss right and wrong with Anthony. "Anthony, you've been completely bewitched by that vixen Jane. You're out of your mind!"

Anthony couldn't be bothered to argue and nodded, saying, "Yes, I'm out of my mind. I'd rather be out of my mind."

"You!" Ann was so angry she almost couldn't catch her breath. "Fine! Anthony Clark, you don't listen to me, you don't care about my feelings. Fine, go ahead and like her! She will never get my approval in this lifetime! Without my approval as her mother-in-law, let's see if she can ever become the rightful Mrs. Clark!"

Humans were social animals, and there was a saying: public opinion is formidable.

Even if Anthony and Jane got their marriage certificate, without Ann's approval as an elder, Jane as Mrs. Clark would always be a point of contention, even becoming a laughingstock in social circles, a cautionary tale for parents to educate their children:

[My daughter, look at that Jane Watkins. So what if she got her marriage certificate with Anthony Clark? Without her mother-in-law's approval, she can't be considered a family number.]

[My son, if we don't approve of the woman you fancy, even if you get your marriage certificate with her, at most she'll be like Jane Watkins, a woman kept outside the family, not even qualified to attend family gatherings, understand?]

"Jane doesn't care about your approval or recognition." Anthony was not threatened at all. "Mom, whether you approve of her or not, as long as she is my legal wife, she is the primary beneficiary to my property. Your attitude has little impact on her."

Ann's threatening words only showed that she didn't understand Jane well enough.

"Anthony Clark, I am your mother! Do you not care about my feelings at all?" Ann seemed a bit desperate; Anthony's attitude was too firm and resolute.

'If you weren't my mother, you wouldn't even be able to enter the mansion,' Anthony thought, but didn't say this out loud.

"Mom, I've done everything I should as the heir of the Watkins family. I've avenged everything you wanted me to avenge." Anthony looked at Ann seriously. "Mom, for the next few decades, I will do what I want."

Ann was relentless. "What do you want for yourself?"

Anthony didn't hesitate. "Jane."

Anthony had wanted Jane for many years, from the first moment he saw her.

Meanwhile, Jane had just finished a high-end spa treatment that took nearly four hours. She changed her clothes and left the spa, only to be surprised.

"Clint, what are you doing here?" she asked.

Clint was sitting on the most inconspicuous chair outside the spa, lounging with his legs spread out and dozing off. But almost the moment Jane walked out, he woke up and looked over.

"Ms. Watkins." Clint stood up and greeted Jane first. "Mr. Clark was worried about you and sent me to accompany you."

Jane was indifferent. "Accompany? More like watch, right?"

Clint smiled apologetically. "I wouldn't dare."

Jane was familiar with Clint and had a good private relationship with him, so she didn't stand on ceremony and led him to the food court.

After the spa, she was a bit hungry.

"What is your boss so busy with that he sent you out here?" Jane's words were very tactful.

If Anthony really had important work that required his personal attention, he wouldn't have specifically sent Clint to be with Jane.

In other words, since Clint was here to "accompany" Jane, it meant that Anthony wasn't meeting any important work partners, and it might not even be work-related but personal matters.

He just didn't want Jane to know. "Ms. Watkins..." Clint tried to explain.

"It's okay, you don't have to say more." Jane interrupted Clint. "I'm just too smart, casually mentioning it. I'm not interested in Anthony Clark's personal matters. I should thank him for letting me eat, drink, play, and shop today."

Clint thought, 'Amazing, that's Jane for you.'

At the food court, Jane saw a famous bubble tea shop and happily placed an order.

"Ms. Watkins, Mr. Clark said drinking too much of this isn't good." Clint said while wondering if he should report Jane to Anthony.

"Just one cup. Do you have a misunderstanding about the word 'too much'?" Jane reasoned with Clint. "And this isn't some cheap bubble tea that costs a few dollars a cup."

Clint glanced at the price list, ten dollars.

Clint's thoughts were written all over his face. Jane, in a good mood about to drink her bubble tea, continued to reason with him.

"You're right, you're absolutely right." Clint gave up resisting and admitted his mistake.

Jane was in a great mood after drinking her bubble tea. So much so that on the way back to the mansion, she saw a barbecue place and stopped to buy some.

"Ms. Watkins, bubble tea is one thing, but barbecue is very unhygienic." Clint tried hard to dissuade Jane, even thinking of using threats—eating barbecue could also cause cancer.

Jane seriously scrutinized Clint.

Clint had a bad feeling. He knew that keeping quiet would be the wisest choice at this moment, but curiosity got the better of him, and he couldn't help but ask, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I'm checking if you lied about your age or have some way to stay young. Otherwise, how could your thinking be on par with people in their forties or fifties?" Jane said.

Jane didn't have a big appetite. She ordered two vegetable skewers, a chicken wing skewer, and a rib skewer for herself. She glanced at Clint and added a few more meat skewers.

Jane liked barbecue but didn't like standing by the grill, worried the smoke would get on her.

Clint knew Jane's little habits very well. After complaining about Jane's indulgent menu, he dutifully waited by the grill, letting Jane sit in the car and wait.

When Jane got the skewers, she handed the meat skewers, which could be beef, lamb, or a mix, to Clint.

Clint smiled but didn't take them. "Ms. Watkins, are you trying to bribe me?"

"Eat them if you want. I'm not interested in bribing you." Jane couldn't be bothered to bribe Clint. "Don't you know young people love barbecue? Clint, can you stop acting like you're in your forties when you're not even thirty? You'll never get a wife that way."

Clint took the meat skewers and started eating silently. If he didn't, he'd get scolded even more.

Of course, Clint ate these things. Most men would eat barbecue and drink beer when they gathered privately. But with Jane around, Clint had to put on an act, trying to persuade this delicate but possibly not frail Jane to eat less junk food.

After having bubble tea and barbecue, Jane's good mood lasted all the way back to the mansion. She was even proactive enough to say "Hi" when she saw Anthony sitting in the living room.
