Chapter 296 Crazy Jealousy
As an exemplary subordinate, Jamie swiftly adjusted his approach and said, "There’s something I need to discuss with Natalie. Can I speak with her?”
Oliver glanced at Jamie for a moment before he nodded reluctantly.
Jamie sighed inwardly. ‘At least I get paid a high salary to do this…’
“Natalie, may I ask what you plan to cook today? Are there any ingredients you need? Please let me know if you need any help,” Jamie asked, bending down to address Natalie, who was seated.
Natalie stopped for a moment, looking at Jamie with a puzzled expression, before she asked, “Why would I cook when food is provided here?”
"You’re aware of Oliver’s condition…” Jamie said tentatively, careful not to elaborate on Oliver’s condition to protect Oliver’s privacy, “Because you didn’t cook yesterday, he didn’t eat the entire day. He skipped breakfast this morning as well. If he has to skip lunch as well, his body won’t be able to withstand it.”
Natalie felt a twinge of concern, but she maintained her calm and said, “How’s that any of my business?”
“You know he still likes to eat what you cook. If his stomach gives him trouble again…”
It was not like she was stopping him from eating. Moreover, he could eat food cooked by others now. She thought of Susan at this moment, and her annoyance surged. She turned away from Jamie, unwilling to hear more. She feared her resolve might weaken if she continued listening.
Jamie let out a deep sigh and walked back to Oliver, looking defeated. He could clearly see the reproach in Oliver’s eyes now that he failed his mission.
After Jamie walked away, Jacob leaned over and whispered to Natalie, “Are you still playing the role of a cook to him?”
Jacob found it hard to believe that Oliver Windsor, whose reputation alone was intimidating enough, was someone who would rather starve unless his wife cooked.
Jane nudged his stool with a look of disapproval.
Jacob smiled sheepishly.
Natalie was not in the mood to talk. Although she acted indifferently, she was still worried after listening to Jamie’s words.
‘Forget it! It's his own doing. He could clearly eat simple meals that others cooked. Can’t he at least have the soup the cook at Rosewood Estate made? If he falls ill, it’ll be his own doing,’ she thought with a huff.
During lunchtime, Oliver's presence cast a peculiar atmosphere over the entire production team. Since he was not eating, everyone was very cautious and tense when eating, unlike the day before when they were complaining about the food.
Lily observed Natalie and Oliver for a while. In her eyes, their lack of interaction, not a single word or glance exchanged, meant they would soon part ways. Moreover, divorces among the wealthy were not uncommon nowadays. She was confident that Natalie was on the brink of a divorce.
Lily saw this as her opportunity. She adjusted her hair and discreetly checked her reflection in a compact mirror, ensuring her makeup was flawless, before she confidently approached Oliver.
"Mr. Windsor, is there anything you like to eat? I’m quite familiar with this area. If you have any preferences, I’d be glad to recommend something," Lily said softly, "Or, if you prefer, I can cook something for you. I’m quite a decent cook."
Jacob elbowed Natalie. "Look, Lily is trying to flirt with your husband. Aren’t you going to do something about it?"
Natalie glanced at Oliver as she replied, “It doesn’t bother me.”
"It's understandable. You can’t control everything. Otherwise, you’ll be overwhelmed eventually,” Jacob said sympathetically.
Jane glared at Jacob. "Would it hurt to keep quiet if you have nothing constructive to say?"
Jacob sighed. It seemed like he was always on the receiving end of Jane's rebukes.
On the other side, Oliver’s gaze was as icy as his voice as he said impatiently, “Get lost!”
Lily trembled in fear, and she nearly fell to her knees. She had always found Oliver's silent and stoic demeanor intimidating, but this outright dismissal made her realize that his previous aloofness was merciful compared to this harsh rejection.
Lily’s face was pale, feeling embarrassed by her failed attempt. The scene of her rejection was witnessed by everyone around.
Meanwhile, Oliver's attention was not on Lily's retreat, but it was on Jacob, who had leaned over to speak with Natalie. The sight of another man touching Natalie, the man whom Natalie insisted remain on her team, was particularly grating to Oliver.
…
There had been a change in the day's schedule. Instead of styling the models and taking photos of them, they would focus on the classes and obtaining props.
When filming started in the afternoon, Oliver left with Jamie, looking as though he was genuinely here for work.
Natalie's team concluded their afternoon successfully, returning with a red fishtail gown and a selection of makeup products for the competition.
The show's rules dictated that each team's acquisitions be stored in a ‘treasure chest’, to be retrieved the following day for the styling segment, preserving an element of surprise.
"Jacob!"
As filming wrapped up, Jacob's manager approached him urgently with a troubled expression and said, "You need to come with me now. You can't stay on the show."
This news shocked everyone, except for the director who had just been informed of the matter.
"What? Why?" Jacob's confusion was palpable, the announcement catching him completely off guard.
His manager seemed torn, wanting to explain but ultimately deciding against it for now. He only said, “I’ll tell you more about it later. Let's hope it doesn't significantly impact your career."
Despite Jacob’s overly blunt nature, many found his silly personality endearing. As such, he got along with everyone rather well.
Jacob still looked bewildered as his manager dragged him away. Just before boarding their car, Jacob's manager paused to cast a meaningful glance back at Natalie. That look seemed to carry a mixture of blame and accusation, indicating that she had something to do with this matter.
Natalie was perplexed; she had no acquaintance with Jacob's manager.
‘Could it be…’
A suspicion arose in her mind.
The production team, now faced with the challenge of replacing Jacob, deliberated on potential substitutes, stressing the need for a female participant to prevent any further issues similar to Jacob's departure.
“No, it has to be a woman. Otherwise, Mr. Windsor will end up replacing them like he did Jacob before we even finish filming tomorrow!”
Natalie overheard the director grumbling as she walked past.
‘As expected, it’s Oliver!’
Anger surged in Natalie’s heart. She stormed back to her dormitory. She slammed the door shut behind her before she called Oliver, ready to confront him.
