Chapter 916 Someone Buys Your Life with Money
Nathan was still young and couldn’t be away from Natalie for long periods.
While Natalie was in the hospital these days, Nathan was always brought to the hospital by the maid, playing with Natalie for half a day.
Nathan was very sensible, as if he knew his mother was busy. When he returned to the Rosewood Estate by himself, he didn’t make a fuss. He was only extra clingy to Natalie when she was with him in the suite.
"Sis, why don't you go back to accompany Nathan? I have doctors, nurses, and Lilian here with me. You don't need to waste your time on me," Lucas persuaded.
"Let's talk about it after you recover," Natalie stubbornly said.
It was mainly because there have been too many accidents recently. First, the Hastings family threatened Natalie, then Susan disappeared. Lucas couldn't find the life-saving bone marrow. Natalie was completely worried now.
Oliver booked a long-term presidential suite in a high-end hotel near the hospital, which has become Natalie and Oliver's temporary residence.
As Natalie swiped the card to enter, she heard the maid patiently and gently saying, "Nathan, your mother will be here soon! She will come to accompany you soon!"
Before the words fell, the two maids inside noticed Natalie entering and turned to look at her.
Before the two could greet Natalie, Nathan, lying in the crib, had already joyfully started calling out. His voice was as sweet as milk, sticky and sweet.
When meeting Nathan's big eyes, Natalie softened her heart completely and walked over quickly.
"Nathan!" Natalie called gently, picking Nathan up into her arms.
Nathan could already reach out his hands. Once in Natalie's arms, he would wrap one hand around her neck and grab onto her clothes with the other, as if afraid of being left behind.
Nathan's obedience didn't mean he was willing to leave.
Following Natalie's instructions, the two maids left the room. It was Natalie's usual habit not to have maids around when playing with Nathan unless needing their help.
If assistance was required, a quick phone call would bring them in.
Sitting on Natalie's arm, Nathan looked around with his big eyes, showing a lot of spirituality.
"Is Nathan looking for your father?" Natalie asked.
Nathan made a sound, but it was unclear whether it meant "yes" or not.
"Father is busy. He will come to accompany Nathan in a while!"
Although Nathan and Oliver didn't get along, Natalie knew that Nathan quite liked Oliver.
This trait was exactly like Oliver's, saying one thing but meaning another. Nathan was a guy with a forked tongue. It might be hard for him to find a girlfriend in the future.
A knock on the door sounded.
"Maybe Auntie forgot something," Natalie said to Nathan as she walked towards the door.
In the past, maids had left their phones in the room and had to come back to retrieve them.
Opening the door, Natalie was taken aback.
It wasn't a maid but a hotel waiter named Aaron Phillips pushing a small food cart.
"Are you Miss Natalie?" Aaron asked.
Natalie nodded.
"This is your meal."
"I didn't order any food," Natalie said with a puzzled expression.
"Is that so? Maybe someone you know ordered it for you," Aaron said. "Can I bring the meal in?"
Natalie thought for a moment. It could indeed have been ordered by someone else, perhaps a maid or Oliver.
Natalie let the man in, keeping a wary eye on Aaron until he started taking out the steaming food. The packaging was from a private restaurant familiar to Natalie. This realization made her feel relaxed.
After experiencing multiple incidents, Natalie was now cautious around strangers.
Placing Nathan in the stroller, Natalie turned towards the study.
After taking a few steps, she suddenly felt something was wrong.
Natalie dodged to the side with her intuition, catching a chilling glimpse of at the corner of her eye.
"Who are you?" Natalie was shocked and ran towards Nathan.
Nathan lay in the stroller, still waving his hands and feet, completely unaware of what was happening.
Aaron, obviously well-trained, paid no heed to Natalie's questions and made another attempt on her, clearly aiming to take her out.
Perhaps to avoid making too much noise, Aaron's movements were somewhat restricted, allowing Natalie to dodge two strikes.
The TV was smashed by Aaron, and the porcelain ornaments Natalie threw hit the wall, creating a piercing sound.
Aaron, disguised as a waiter, never expected that Natalie who seemed defenseless would have some skills.
Aaron knew that if he didn't want to get caught, he had to act swiftly. He now targeted Nathan in the stroller.
If something happened to Nathan, Natalie would surely be thrown into disarray.
Reaching for a sharp knife at his waist, Aaron threw it straight at Nathan in the stroller.
The blade, gleaming with sharpness, accurately aimed for the curious Nathan still looking around in the stroller.
"Nathan!" At that moment, Natalie felt a heart-wrenching pain.
Just then, the seemingly ordinary pink stroller suddenly started moving.
In the blink of an eye, the stroller was completely covered by a layer of transparent glass, providing airtight protection.
The blade struck the glass that appeared out of nowhere.
Despite its fragile appearance, the glass showed no cracks, so the knife bounced off to the ground.
Aaron stood there stunned for a moment, shocked by the high-tech features of the stroller.
In his moment of confusion, the study door on the second floor of the suite suddenly opened.
Oliver was ice-cold, exuding a terrifying pressure as he held a dagger. Just as Aaron had targeted Nathan, Oliver swiftly threw the dagger, hitting Aaron with precision.
"Why are you here?" Aaron knelt, looking at Oliver in shock and pain.
Having observed for several days, Aaron knew that after Natalie entered, the maids would leave the room, leaving Natalie alone in the suite.
Today, Aaron clearly saw only Natalie entering, so how could Oliver be here?
Oliver had arrived at the suite a day early and had been in meetings all day. The suite had good soundproofing, so he hadn't noticed any commotion outside until Nathan's modified stroller activated its automatic protection measures, alerting Oliver on his phone, and prompting him to end the meeting and come out immediately.
Natalie quickly stepped forward, locking Aaron's hands behind his back.
Oliver's stab wasn't fatal, but it immobilized Aaron.
"Natalie, let go," Oliver approached, looking displeased as Natalie restrained Aaron.
How could his woman touch Aaron, dirtying her hands?
As soon as Aaron realized Natalie's hands were off him, Oliver struck him with his oppressive aura. In the blink of an eye, Aaron's arms were dislocated.
Aaron cried out in pain.
" I'll teach you later," Oliver said to Natalie.
Aaron winced, knowing he was in trouble.
"This stroller..." Natalie pointed helplessly at the "transformed" stroller carrying Nathan.
Oliver approached, quickly pressed a few buttons on the stroller, then operated his phone, returning the stroller to its original state.
If Nathan hadn't been curiously looking around in the stroller, Natalie might have doubted whether she had just witnessed a "transformer" illusion.
"This stroller was modified by Lucas. The glass is bulletproof, and the body is blast-proof. In case of danger, it could automatically detect and alert," Oliver explained.
"When did he do this? Why didn't I know? How could he do this?" Natalie bombarded Oliver with three questions in a row.
Oliver pondered. "Probably Lucas learned it in college."
Natalie felt that after Lucas recovered, she needed to have a serious talk with him.
Lucas must be hiding something from her!
Aaron was once again shocked. ‘Do wealthy people really take such precautions nowadays, turning strollers into armored vehicles?’ He thought.
This wasn't something a normal person could do.
"Will you tell me, or should I make you tell me?" Oliver kicked Aaron.
Aaron was in pain, pulled towards his wound and dislocated arm, gasping in cold air.
Pressing his lips together, Aaron looked at Oliver with indifference.
"You should know that my methods are no less ruthless than yours," Oliver said.
One of the rules in their line of work was not to betray the employer's information, but to face someone as ruthless as Oliver...
"I don't know you. Don't try to appease me with personal grudges," Natalie said.
"I just take money to solve problems for others because someone bought your life," Aaron replied resignedly.
"Who wants to buy my life?"
"I don't know," Aaron spoke slowly, enduring the pain in his body. "The platform we receive tasks from is anonymous with high confidentiality. Even hackers can't trace the poster."
Oliver looked bored, as if to say, "With just this bit of information, should I finish him off?"
Survival instinct prompted Aaron to remember other clues immediately. "Something strange was that her commission wasn't transferred. It was paid in gold bars with a deposit of 2 million, and she left a few gold bars under a bridge in Tycoon City."
With a motive for murder, avoiding the use of bank cards and using gold bars as payment, especially at such a critical time, it could only be Susan!
Oliver turned extremely grim.
Susan, after donating bone marrow, still had to be killed!
