Chapter 1020 You're leaving this person to me?

Even though Jane knew Richard was probably just being polite and wouldn't really ask Jovan for money, she still felt it was inappropriate to give money to him right now.

After all, Richard was now appearing as a friend of her brother. So it was appropriate for him to associate everything with Jovan.

Jane was usually eloquent, but in front of someone as meticulous as Richard, all her words of gratitude and apology could only turn into a smile.

"Oliver and I have some connections, and I need to go to Paykston to deliver a gift. Do you plan to take this gift back yourself, or should I bring it for you?" Richard knew very well that Jane probably couldn't leave at the moment.

"Then could you please deliver it for me?" Since it was a birth gift, it wouldn't make sense to delay it until the baby's one-month celebration.

Jane lowered her head, looking at her shoes. "Mr. Foster, thank you so much for everything during this period."

Richard joked, "Isn't the principal supposed to serve the students?"

"Mr. Foster!" Jane heard Richard deliberately teasing her and couldn't help but laugh.

Richard's gaze lingered on Jane's smiling face. He looked away before Jane noticed.

Jane asked the hospital nurse for a pen and paper and carefully wrote congratulatory letters to Natalie and the newborn Nathan.

Life should be interesting, and a sense of ritual was important.

"When will Mr. Foster depart?" Jane folded the written letter and placed it in the brocade box containing the turquoise inkwell.

Richard glanced at his watch and said, "There's a suitable flight in three hours."

Richard always prioritized safety. Since he needed to bring bodyguards with him,  the flight had to have enough available seats.

Jane said, "Then I'll see you out of the hospital." It took more than half an hour to get from the hospital to the airport, so Richard needed to leave now.

Richard nodded and didn't refuse.

As they passed Anthony's ward, Richard glanced inside.

Anthony's back injury was severe, and he could only lie on his stomach. When he looked outside, he happened to see Richard looking in.

Their eyes met. Anthony and Richard saw provocation and hostility in each other's eyes.

It was like two wolves fighting over the same prey.

"Mr. Foster, have a safe trip." Jane saw him off downstairs, where Richard's car was already waiting.

"When my brother returns, I'll make sure he spends time with you playing chess, drinking tea, and fishing."

Jane almost said "have a good drink with you" out loud but then she remembered that the man in front of her was particularly health-conscious.

Richard chuckled but didn't correct Jane. He often drank and had a good tolerance.

In the car, Richard's secretary, sitting in the front passenger seat, looked at Richard in the back through the rearview mirror and hesitated to speak several times.

"What do you want to say?" Richard asked.

The secretary hesitated before speaking. "Why didn't Mr. Foster persuade Ms. Watkins to leave with you? Or stay here with Ms. Watkins? Isn't this giving Anthony an opportunity?"

"What position do I stand in to persuade her?" Richard retorted.

The secretary was momentarily speechless.

Richard, feeling annoyed, said, "If you can't think of anything, then shut up."

Before returning to the ward, Jane ordered a meal from a restaurant, so it was already a bit late when she got back.

Clint had rushed over from Southvale and was reporting work to Anthony who was lying fcae down.

"You've been gone for an hour. How much could you have to say to the principal?" Anthony signaled Clint to be quiet and asked Jane as she walked in.

"A lot." Jane placed the meal boxes on the small table, opened them one by one, and started eating, ignoring Clint and Anthony.

Clint sensed the tension and wanted to slip away, but the work he brought was important and couldn't be delayed.

"What is Ms. Watkins eating? It looks delicious. Is it good?" Clint tried to make conversation, hoping to regulate the atmosphere in the ward.

"Tasty." Jane took a bite of her burger and said, "Anyone who hasn't eaten since six o'clock yesterday would find anything good."

Clint's attempt to lighten the mood failed. 'Why do I even think I could ease the tension between Anthony and Jane!' Clint thought.

"Just report what you need to report. Do I need to leave for privacy?" Jane, seeing that Clint had come a long way, didn't make things difficult for him .

"What privacy?" Anthony was initially angry that Jane had been out with Richard for so long, but hearing that Jane hadn't eaten for so long, all his jealousy and anger vanished, leaving only a little bit of bitterness in his heart.

Anthony signaled Clint to continue.

Clint breathed a sigh of relief and conveyed the work in the most concise language, then recorded Anthony's instructions one by one.

"Ms. Watkins, please take care of Mr. Clark." Clint said respectfully to Jane, "You've been under surveillance recently, so I've arranged for more people around you. I hope you don't mind."

'What's there to mind about bodyguards?' Jane thought.

"Are you leaving?" Jane pointed to Anthony on the bed asked, "You're just going to leave him to me?"

Anthony looked at Jane with a dark expression.

Clint awkwardly smiled, "Mr. Clark needs to recuperate, and I still have to help him with work. Please take care of him for now, Ms. Watkins!"

Jane extended her hand with a stern face.

Clint was puzzled, not understanding what she meant.

Jane said, "Does the Clark family not pay for nurses and caregivers anymore? And I'm still covering his medical expenses."

"Oh, got it!" Clint took out a card from his briefcase and handed it to Jane with both hands. "This card only has $7,600. If it's not enough, Ms. Watkins can call me."

To facilitate work, Clint's briefcase always had cards with varying amounts: $1,500, $3,000, $7,600, and $15,200. But the $15,200 card had already been used.

"Get out." Anthony dismissed him.

Jane seized the opportunity to sow discord between the two. "Clint, your boss has a terrible temper. Why not switch to someone else? With your current skills and reputation, many top companies would want you as a vice president."

Clint didn't dare respond and quickly left.

'Having followed Anthony for so many years and being trained by him, how could I possibly switch jobs?' Clint thought.

Besides, Anthony only had a bad temper verbally and never mistreated his subordinates.

Clint thought that it was better for him to avoid them.

"Where's my wallet?" Anthony asked Jane.

When Anthony went into surgery, he changed into a hospital gown, and his belongings were put away.

Jane slowly sipped her soup and pointed to a small wardrobe not far away. "Over there."

"There's a secondary card in the wallet. Go get it yourself." Anthony found Clint's card displeasing.

Jane glanced at Anthony. "No."

She didn't want Anthony's secondary card but accepted the card Clint gave her.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
