Chapter 924 Unbearable Pain
Helen looked at Natalie in shock. She was despised by Natalie.
Natalie indeed didn't want to talk to Helen, not even a single word.
Natalie used to be really curious and eager about her biological parents, but now she was just disappointed at the Hastings family and Helen.
Yet, Natalie couldn't change the fact that Helen gave birth to her.
When facing Helen, Natalie always felt inferior.
Helen had hurt her before and was still hurting her now.
Natalie couldn't be so carefree and decisive.
Jane and Flora once said that Natalie was too sentimental. Young Natalie looked into the distance and naively said that being sentimental was a good thing. A person with a gentle heart would treat the world kindly.
But now, Natalie regretted saying that.
The Hastings family arrived quickly.
Caleb and James had come to Paykston a few days ago upon hearing that Lucas' old illness had relapsed. Samuel had been working with Oliver to find Susan, so they were all in Paykston.
"Susan." Caleb was momentarily stunned when he saw her, who had been missing for a month.
"Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to stay home?" James frowned at Helen, as if saying, “ Why are you causing trouble again!”
Samuel's attention quickly fell on Natalie who was sitting coldly to the side. "Natalie..."
Susan lay on the sofa, and Helen was fussing over her. It was obvious that Helen was here to cause trouble for Natalie again.
"Caleb, Natalie disregarded Susan's health and forcibly extracted her bone marrow. You must stand up for Susan!" Helen's mind was clear except when it came to Natalie and Susan. She accurately sought help from Caleb, the highest-ranking person present.
Caleb frowned. He no longer sided with Susan, but she was still the granddaughter he had raised for over a decade. Seeing her lying on the sofa, weak and pitiful, Caleb couldn’t be indifferent.
However, when Caleb thought about what Samuel had said that Emma’s death years ago was very likely caused by the Susan he had raised, he turned his head coldly and pressed lips tightly, saying nothing.
"Natalie, go find a doctor to confirm Lucas’ condition," Oliver, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.
Natalie looked at him with a slight frown, realizing that Oliver was deliberately trying to send her away.
"Go ahead. I'll come find you later. If you have any questions or uncertainties, you can ask Rosy or Arthur." Oliver didn't hide the fact that he was indeed trying to send Natalie away.
Rosy was a brain specialist. Although she wasn't an expert in hematology, the basic medical sciences were the same, and she could still help Natalie.
"Arthur?" Natalie was confused.
"His medical talent surpasses Rosy’," Oliver explained. "He used to work in both hematology and cardiology but chose cardiology."
Natalie nodded, remembering that Flora had mentioned her boyfriend's passion for medicine.
A question arose in Natalie's mind, ‘If Arthur is so talented and passionate about medicine, why did he suddenly give it up?’
"Natalie," James called out as he saw her about to leave, wanting to keep her there. He hadn't had a chance to speak with her yet.
Natalie gave James a polite glance but left without hesitation.
Natalie was a bit curious about what would Oliver say to the Hastings family.
However, her curiosity was outweighed by her aversion to the Hastings family.
Since Oliver asked her to leave, she left.
There was no need to waste her precious time on those people.
As Natalie left, she closed the door behind her, leaving the room in silence.
The Hastings family members all looked at Oliver, waiting to hear what he had to say.
"Oliver, I know you want to stand up for Natalie again. But I tell you, I won't compromise this time!" Helen protectively held Susan.
Anyone else witnessing this scene would say it was a touching display of mother-daughter affection.
Oliver flashed his eyes with sarcasm.
"My words are mainly for Mrs. Hastings, but you all can listen," Oliver said.
Helen was slightly stunned. Wasn't he going to stand up for Natalie?
"Mrs. Hastings, do you remember Isabella?" Oliver asked.
"That bitch, why are you bringing her up? How do you know about her?" Isabella had been dead for over a decade with low status. Oliver shouldn't know her.
Helen didn't notice the shock in Susan's eyes when Oliver mentioned Isabella.
Oliver was never the one to waste words. His gaze shifted from Helen to Susan, whose eyes filled with unprecedented tension.
Oliver curled his lips as he looked back at Helen. "Do you know that the woman you're protecting is Isabella’s daughter?"
The room fell silent.
James stared at Susan in shock. This was the daughter of Isabella, the woman he had felt guilty about and searched for privately for years. She had been by his side all along.
Helen couldn't believe it. She recoiled as if she had touched something filthy, quickly withdrawing her hand from Susan and stumbling backward, falling to the ground.
Helen looked at Susan, unable to speak. Her face contorted as she turned to Oliver. "You're lying to me, aren't you?"
Oliver couldn't even be bothered to say, "Who cares to lie to you?"
"Oliver, what is going on?" Caleb finally remembered who Isabella was.
Wasn't she the woman James liked during the early years of his marriage to Helen?
That girl named Isabella was Helen's half-sister. When Isabella ran away and disappeared, she took her newborn daughter with her.
Oliver didn't care how the Hastings family processed the information. He just laid out everything he had discovered during his investigation.
"Back then, when Natalie was kidnapped and went missing, the mastermind was Isabella. She initially wanted to take revenge on you, but later, she thought of a better plan. It is to replace Natalie with her own daughter with James."
Isabella was indeed Helen's half-sister, sharing the same father but different mothers. In their social circle, half-siblings were quite common.
James, although not particularly capable, was handsome and dashing in his youth. As the prospective heir of the Hastings family, he was very popular among women. Both Helen and Isabella developed feelings for James at the same time.
As the legitimate wife, Helen had more confidence, which led to the infamous drunken night that James deeply regretted, resulting in a child and a forced marriage.
In the first couple of years of their marriage, James and Helen got along well. Unfortunately, Isabella's frequent appearances made James fall in love with her.
Isabella not only won James' affection but also had some favor with Mrs. Hastings. Helen felt threatened by Isabella and began to resent Mrs. Hastings who didn't favor her, and targeted her sister Isabella. After Isabella secretly gave birth to a daughter for James, Helen's hatred for Isabella peaked. She used the family's power to force Isabella, giving her two choices: leave the country forever and never appear before them again, or die.
Isabella fled with her newborn daughter.
In the following years, Isabella used her body as a bargaining chip to survive and met various people. Her hatred for Helen grew day by day, so she hired scoundrels to kidnap young Natalie. She then found the right opportunity to disguise Susan as Natalie and sent her to the Hastings family to enjoy a good life, while Helen's biological child remained with Isabella.
Susan and Natalie shared the same father. Helen and Isabella shared the same father as well. When Susan and Natalie were young, they looked remarkably alike, which facilitated their successful swap back then.
Isabella originally intended to kill young Natalie. But at that time, Isabella had just given birth to Lucas who was Robert's biological son. Robert, who was very afraid of his wife, gave Isabella some money to send her away. Looking at the six-year-old Natalie, Isabella thought, ‘Isn't this a ready-made servant?’
The hardships of her childhood spared Natalie's life.
The only fortunate thing was that Lucas genuinely protected his sister Natalie.
This part of the story was told by Collin.
Oliver wouldn't waste another word on these people. He didn't have the patience.
These people didn't deserve it.
"When Natalie went missing, she was already over six years old. She shouldn't have completely forgotten about the Hastings family." Caleb quickly found a point of doubt.
"Mrs. Windsor was abused by Isabella. When she was seven or eight, she had a high fever and forgot her childhood memories," Collin said.
" How Abused!" Helen muttered to herself, as if she couldn't understand what it meant.
Natalie had been abused by Isabella.
While Isabella was abusing Natalie, Helen was treating Susan like a precious gem.
Helen looked at Susan in disbelief, horrified to find that Susan was completely calm!
"You knew about all this, didn't you?" Helen asked Susan.
Susan didn't answer, just stared intently at Oliver.
"But why does Susan look so much like Helen?" James remembered that Helen and Isabella only had a partial resemblance, while Susan and Helen looked so similar that anyone would assume they were mother and daughter.
"Plastic surgery," Collin said. The others immediately understood.
Collin explained, "Isabella met a plastic surgeon named Randy Wright. Susan underwent plastic surgery from a young age to make her appearance resemble Helen's. The doctor's skills were excellent, making Susan's transformation look very natural."
Why did Isabella choose Helen as the template for Susan's appearance?
Undoubtedly, it was to make Helen favor Susan more, to make Helen treat Susan as a treasure, and to serve Susan diligently!
This was Isabella's revenge!
The Hastings family fell into a prolonged state of shock, staring blankly at Susan lying on the sofa.
Susan's calm reaction seemed to confirm every word Oliver said.
In an instant, Helen turned ashen, staring at Susan in horror, unsure whether she was trying to find traces of plastic surgery or natural growth.
"Helen, I told you. I would make you regret it," Isabella once said.
She was to make Helen regret the words she said to Natalie and the harm she caused with unbearable pain!
