Chapter 472
“I didn’t expect you’d run for help over a dispute with young people, Helen,” Natalie remarked before she turned to Mr. Hastings and said, “Mr. Hastings, may I ask if you’re here to mediate impartially, or are you here to support Helen?”
Mr. Hastings bore no ill will towards Natalie, who displayed no interest in engaging in a quarrel with him.
Helen raised her chin confidently. Considering Natalie's lack of ties to the Hastings family, apart from snatching Susan’s man away, she was confident that Mr. Hastings would support her.
"I... I won’t interfere," Mr. Hastings declared, taking a seat to the side, positioning himself as though he was preparing to watch the show, "My role here is simply to watch."
Both Helen and Samuel were taken aback.
Samuel also had assumed his grandfather would stand by his mother, despite her occasional unreasonableness. His attention then shifted to Natalie's leg—the very leg Natalie claimed had been injured by his mother.
"Helen, please listen to this. Does it sound familiar to you?" Natalie said before she played a recording on her phone.
In the recording, Helen could be heard saying:
"You have no manners. Don’t think that you can change the fact that you’re a child of unknown origin just because you removed those stories on the Internet!”
“Miss Watson, my family holds significant influence here in Tycoon City; it’s widely acknowledged that the Hastings are very influential. Let me tell you, you’ll regret your actions!”
Helen’s face turned ashen as she stammered, “Y-you… recorded it? When did you… Natalie, you’re really cunning!”
"How else could I possibly prove that you were targeting me then? Without this recording, how am I supposed to defend myself against the attacks from someone from the influential Hastings family?” Natalie said as she carefully touched her leg, “Look, haven’t I already suffered? Are you going to shy away from taking responsibility for your actions and words?”
The truth was that Flora had ingeniously placed a recording device on Susan's model upon discovering Susan's theft of her design. Nevertheless, Flora chose not to disclose the recording publicly, opting instead to send it directly to Natalie.
Furthermore, the recording had been edited to subtly yet unmistakably emphasize the blatant arrogance in Helen's voice.
Mr. Hastings pointed at Helen, looking profoundly disappointed.
"Dad, I..." Helen had not anticipated being outmaneuvered by someone like Natalie! She cast a desperate look toward her son, imploring him to help her.
Samuel had been ignoring his mother the instant he laid eyes on Natalie's cast. His disappointment grew with each encounter until it reached a breaking point. He alone understood the true character of his mother, who was celebrated by outsiders for her grace and integrity.
“Mr. Hastings, there’s a report here that you should see,” Oliver said.
Then, Jamie handed over a file to Mr. Hastings.
"My wife faced danger, and all three individuals involved took their own lives since then. Helen has a convincing alibi, but given your intelligence, I’m confident you will understand the entirety of the situation upon seeing these documents."
