Chapter 491

“Oliver, I honestly hate that feeling,” Natalie reopened her eyes and spoke in a subdued tone.

“What feeling?” he asked.

“The constant intrusion of other women and surprises in our life,” she explained.

It was the first time since their ‘cold war’ that Natalie had formally discussed their relationship issues with Oliver.

“It began with Cadence, continued with Hailey, and then Susan... I understand some of it might not be on you and that I have my own issues too, like with Hailey... But I'm tired of living this restless life. I’m tired of constantly having to deal with unsettling elements. I’m tired of always having to be on guard for disturbances from these people.”

Bathed in the dim light filtering through the window, Oliver observed Natalie’s profile.

Natalie continued, “I realize these problems are common in many marriages; we're not unique. But... maybe it's a lack of confidence on my part. It just feels exhausting. I’m sorry, Oliver.”

“Sleep now,” Oliver's hand covered Natalie's eyes gently.

The nights before her period, Natalie often struggled to sleep peacefully, but this time she drifted off exceptionally quickly. Perhaps it was the relief of having expressed the thoughts she'd been holding in.

Oliver’s hand softly settled on Natalie’s shoulder, massaging with just the right amount of pressure. While the conversation replayed over and over in Oliver’s mind as he lay awake.

“Sir, the designs for the rings have arrived,” Jamie interrupted, entering the office and handing over two printed design drafts to Oliver. “The designer created these two options based on your specifications. All the materials are ready—once you decide, the rings will be available within two weeks.”

Both were wedding bands, a pair for him and her.

The men's bands were simple with an engraving inside, designed to complement a subtle pattern on the outer band matched to the women's rings.

The women's rings were quite elaborate—two different styles, each intricate and elegant, featuring top-quality pink diamonds.

“No need,” Oliver glanced at the designs and told Jamie. “Take them away.”

Jamie was puzzled, “Sir?”

“Take them away.” Oliver's expression was icy.

Puzzled but hesitant to inquire further, Jamie took the designs and disposed of them in the shredder.
“Which one did Sir choose?” Charles asked with eager anticipation.

Jamie was frustrated. “He didn't choose any... seems like he’s not going ahead with the rings.”

Jamie rambled on, perplexed. "I mean, I get tossing those ridiculously costly wedding rings because they got dirty, no thanks to Susan. That made some sort of sense. But these blueprints? They were truly masterpieces designed overnight by the boss himself. He was so excited about them before... Now he's just giving up on them?"

"Uh-oh, I smell trouble!" Charles exclaimed; he was worried.

"The boss and his wife must be having serious issues if he doesn't even want the rings anymore."

Jamie and Charles exchanged worried glances, sensing a nightmare brewing on the horizon. They were already struggling with the couple's spats; what if the conflicts intensified? How would they keep working smoothly?
