Chapter 310 A Last Resort

Anthony’s gaze was intense, almost bordering on obsession. It was as if the woman standing before him was his entire world. He thought he was dreaming, so, in his weakened state, he gathered the remnants of his strength and beckoned.

"Baby, come here."

Clint was taken aback. It had been a long time since Anthony had spoken to Jane in such a manner, especially since their estrangement.

Jane was equally taken by surprise. She felt a pang of pain in her heart; it was as though her heart was being stabbed by needles. It was not overly painful, but it was endless. The intimate form of address evoked memories of the past, which was marked by both sadness and happiness.

"I’ll wait outside. Please help me persuade him to go to the hospital,” Clint said before he tactfully left to give them some privacy.

"Hey!"

Jane attempted to call Clint back, but the speed of a retired special forces soldier was not to be underestimated. In merely a moment, he had vanished from the presidential suite, gently closing the door behind him.

"Babe," Anthony called out again, gesturing for her to approach.

Jane bit her lip, her reason telling her to leave. It would not benefit anyone for them to be further entangled.

‘Just this once… He’s sick…’

Unexpectedly, as soon as she approached, Anthony grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a tight embrace.

Despite the layers of their winter clothing, Jane could feel the intense heat from Anthony's feverish body

Anthony held Jane close, his grip tightening around her slender waist as if he wished to fuse her into his very being. Then, he murmured against her neck, “I missed you so much…”

His warm breath on her neck and cheek left her heart racing with surprise. She could hear the longing and desire in his voice as though he finally saw the person he deeply yearned for.

"Anthony!" Jane's voice shook, her body tensed. She did not bother to push him away, aware of the difference in their strengths. She asked incredulously, “Do you even know what you’re doing?”

“Hmm,” Anthony replied, holding Jane's face tenderly with one hand while his other encircled her waist, keeping her close to him.

Jane was taken aback by the intense, almost obsessive gaze in Anthony's eyes.

‘Is that… love?’

"Do you know in so many years, this is the first time you’re willing to listen to me in my dreams…” Anthony murmured before he kissed Jane as though she was a priceless treasure.

Jane froze. “Do you think this is a dream?”

“This is the 256th time you’ve appeared in my dreams,” Anthony explained, softly running his fingers through her hair, "If this isn’t a dream, you would’ve hit me long ago."

Anthony gazed at Jane with amusement as he added, “You are famous for your fiery temper after all…”

A whirlwind of emotions stormed through Jane's heart, too intricate to untangle, eventually settling into a profound sense of desolation and pain. It felt as though innumerable bugs were feasting on her heart.

Since their separation and unexpected reunion, this was the first occasion Anthony had shown such gentleness and expressed his feelings so openly.

She was not even aware of these feelings in Anthony’s heart.

"If my temper is so bad, then why don’t you let me go?” Jane's voice was laden with emotion, her eyes fixed on Anthony, unwilling to blink.

Cradling Jane in his arms, Anthony asked in return, “How can I let go? Who’s going to protect her then? I’m the only one who can protect her! No one else can do it!”

His tone was both domineering and possessive.

Jane managed a faint smile, tasting a bittersweet mix of emotions. After a moment, she tried to steer the conversation elsewhere.

“Anthony, go to the hospital with Clint.”

"No," Anthony stubbornly declined.

Jane was puzzled by his obstinacy. Previously, Anthony had never shown such reluctance to seek medical attention, whether he was sick or injured. She asked, "Why?"

Suffering from a high fever and weakened, Anthony’s mind was muddled. He gradually loosened his hold on the ‘illusionary’ Jane within his grasp. However, he was still stubbornly staring at her despite his exhaustion.

He wanted her to accompany him to the hospital, and she wondered if she would agree.

"Go to the hospital," Jane repeated once more.

"Fine," Anthony compromised, "But you can't leave..."

‘You’re not real. The real Jane hates me. We’re separated by our families, your beloved older brother…’

Clint had already contacted the hospital and was waiting for Anthony to agree.

When Anthony saw Jane getting into the car with him, he could not hold on any longer and fainted.

The doctor, a stern middle-aged man, scolded Jane after examining Anthony.

"Are you his wife or girlfriend? How could you only bring him here at this point when he’s almost on the brink of death?”

After completing the necessary procedures, Clint returned to see Jane being scolded by the doctor. He was dumbfounded. It was the first time he had seen Jane being scolded but not retorting.

When Clint recovered his senses, he rushed over and stood in front of Jane, saying, “Doctor, you’ve misunderstood. She’s not the patient’s girlfriend.”

‘The patient wishes she’s his girlfriend, but she’s unwilling!’

The doctor smiled awkwardly, saying, “I’m sorry.”

"It's alright." Jane smiled back.

Instead of feeling offended by the doctor's scolding earlier, she thought of the past.

Once, she was outnumbered in a fight. Although she won, she returned with injuries. At that time, Anthony scolded her, saying, "Jane, are you stupid? If you’re going to fight, at least make sure you don’t get hurt! Don’t you know how to handle things?”

At that time, Jane hooked her arms around his neck, tilted her head, and asked playfully, "So why do you like me if I’m so stupid? Hmm? You’re so weird. I’m going to tell my brother about how weird you are!”

In response, Anthony hugged Jane and passionately kissed her, making her beg for mercy. After that, he went and beat up those people who fought with her.

Anyone who had hurt Jane over the years was left in a pitiful state, as they not only suffered humiliation from her but also got beaten up by her 'bodyguard'. They truly had never seen such a domineering and unreasonable bodyguard before!
