Chapter 284 Oliver Loves Susan
"Lily!" Sharon chided with a frown.
Lily feigned a sudden realization. "Ah! I’m sorry! Did I say something wrong?”
Meanwhile, Zoey watched the duo with a hint of mockery briefly flashing in her eyes. She had seen through the duo’s immature tricks.
Jane sneered at Lily. Her lips barely moved as she whispered to Natalie, "Natalie, do you think I should throw this lunch at her face?"
Natalie held Jane’s hand to calm Jane down. It would not reflect well on Jane's reputation to engage in a confrontation with Lily amidst such a crowd.
Natalie smiled and asked, “Why do you care so much about my affairs with my husband? Are you interested in my husband? Whether I cook for him or not is my business, not yours.”
If Natalie's husband were an ordinary person, perhaps it would not matter. However, he is Oliver. Speaking without caution could easily brand Lily as someone with malicious intent toward him, making her the subject of ridicule and gossip.
In the end, Lily did not say anything else and could only force herself to laugh. At the same time, she thought to herself, ‘Why didn’t Natalie get angry? How annoying!’
The previously harmonious atmosphere was now tainted by Lily's outburst, resulting in a somewhat awkward tension. People congregated in small groups, engaging in conversation and laughter.
“Natalie, do you really not care about Oliver?“ Jane asked quietly as Natalie began to eat her lunch.
“I don’t care,” Natalie replied, averting her eyes. However, a hint of bitterness and self-reassurance could be heard in her icy voice.
Jane patted Natalie's shoulder and said, "Regardless of the choices you make, you have my support!"
Natalie felt a warmth in her heart, touched by Jane's loyalty.
Jane added, "Even if you decide to have an affair, I’ll stand by you. I think Roger is a suitable choice!"
Natalie choked, coughing. Her sadness dissipated for a moment when she heard these shocking words. When she recovered, she explained with a wry smile, “Jane, Roger and I are just friends.”
"Oh."
Thoughts of Oliver once again clouded Natalie's mind, filling her with dread of an impending storm.
"Jane, I’m done eating. I’m going to the restroom,” Natalie said, setting aside her lunchbox and leaving with large strides. She could feel her emotions getting out of control.
Within the confines of the restroom stall, Natalie leaned against the wall. She was haunted by Hailey and Adrian’s words.
‘Natalie, Oliver only has one woman in his heart, and the woman is Susan.’
‘My dear sister, you bear a resemblance to Susan. I wonder if Oliver thinks of the woman he once loved, or perhaps still loves, whenever he looks at you.’
‘He doesn’t really care about you. You’re just a distraction…’
‘Once Susan returns, you’ll be worthless!’
Natalie massaged her temples, taking deep breaths to keep calm. She did not want Oliver’s actions and affairs to affect her emotions.
She had known about Susan’s existence for quite some time now. If Oliver truly had feelings for Susan, was there anything she could do? The answer was no.
At this moment, she overheard a hushed conversation between students outside the stall.
“So Oliver is the man who picked Susan up?”
“It’s highly likely. Poor Natalie. Her husband’s childhood sweetheart has returned…”
"The Hastings family resides in Tycoon City, but Susan came to Paykston as soon as she returned. She came here for Oliver, right?”
"Susan is from the Hastings family. How can Natalie possibly compare? It seems like Natalie’s divorce is inevitable!”
"How could someone as outstanding as Oliver like Natalie? He’s just playing around with her!"
Natalie closed her eyes, mentally telling herself, ‘You’ve already known long ago that Oliver is out of your reach. He’s like the moon reflected in the water. He looks deceptively close, but if you reach out, you’ll find that he’s not there… You need to stay calm. Don’t let him become a weapon that harms you!’
Natalie rested for an hour following the meal before she continued with the day’s filming.
The agenda for the afternoon involved styling and taking professional photographs.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Natalie displayed remarkable composure and mental fortitude, unaffected by the situation with Oliver. She made Lily's manipulative tactics appear particularly malicious in comparison.
At this time, Jacob selected a lipstick and applied it to Natalie's lips, intending to accentuate her smile. However, Natalie ended up with unevenly applied bright pink lipstick!
The unexpected result prompted laughter from the other participants.
Zoey, trying to contain her amusement, teased, "Natalie, I think your team isn’t doing too well in the makeup department."
Jacob, puzzled, inspected Natalie's face closely before he said, "I think it looks fine."
The photographer in Sharon's team laughed heartily. “Jacob, are you a spy sent to sabotage Natalie’s team?”
Seeing how clueless Jacob was, Jane also could not help but laugh. She asked, “Jacob, do you have a girlfriend?”
“No,” Jacob replied indifferently.
As an up-and-coming idol, Jacob depended on his fans a lot. Even if he had a girlfriend, he would not tell anyone about it.
Jane commented, “It figures. Someone like you, who lacks aesthetic sense but is overconfident, would only annoy people…”
‘I really don’t want to talk to this woman!’ Jacob fumed inwardly.
Meanwhile, Jane was frustrated over the show’s rules that the photographer and model could not help with the styling. She could only watch helplessly as Jacob’s terrible sense of aesthetics ruined their chances of winning.
To the production team's amusement, Jacob's makeup skills—or lack thereof—turned out to be the biggest flaw in Natalie’s team.
"Jacob, the production team stated that we can’t borrow props, but exchanges are permitted. Would you trade your Dior lipstick with us?" Grace asked.
Given his lack of contribution in prop gathering, Jacob did not dare to decide. He was worried that if he said something wrong, Jane would scold him again.
Natalie had already set her sights on the umbrella in Grace’s team, so she quickly agreed to the exchange.
Upon seeing this, Lily stepped forward and asked, “Can we exchange our dress for a lipstick?”
Just as Jacob was about to respond, Jane, seated at the dressing table, silenced him with a look. Then, she smiled and replied decisively, “No.”
Jacob was puzzled by Jane’s refusal.
“Why not? You agreed to an exchange with Grace's team. Do you look down on our team?” Lily asked as her smile faltered. With her words, she even dragged the photographer and Zoey into the matter.
